CNN —All over the world, and for centuries, people have thrown coins into fountains, wishing wells and rivers for good luck. Some fountains collect thousands, or even millions, of dollars worth of coins each year. George Rose/Getty ImagesWhere the money goesSome well-known fountains can collect thousands of dollars in coins each year. According to an NBC report from 2016, the Trevi Fountain accumulated about $1.5 million in coins that year. A spokesperson for the Mall of America in Minneapolis told CNN the fountains collect about $25,000 each year.

One would-be passenger pretended to pack his carry-on bag with tools, in case he needed to make an in-flight repair. Someone else compared the mere act of boarding a commercial flight to the harebrained, death-defying stunts featured on “Jackass.”“Pray for me, I will have my seatbelt on the entire time,” reads the caption of one TikTok video recorded by an airline passenger as she awaited takeoff. The reason for her concern: Her seat was in the exit row of a Boeing 737 Max. On TikTok and X, users have been sharing videos and memes poking fun at Boeing, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of commercial jetliners — several of which have figured in headline-making incidents in recent weeks. On Monday, the company announced that its chief executive, Dave Calhoun, would be stepping down at the end of the year, capping off a tumultuous tenure that has included groundings, Covid-related disruptions and a dramatic door-panel blowout.

It's been covered by other media outlets well before last week's study; 404 Media wrote about it in December. Meta's president of global affairs said in February that the company is working on generative AI labels it will roll out later this year. Notably, this comes in an election year that's already been marred by generative AI issues, online and off. Facial recognition frequently misidentifies people of colorMIT Media Lab researcher Joy Buolamwini found that facial recognition technology misidentified black women up to 35% of the time, the New York Times reported in 2018. When fewer photos of people from other racial and gender groups are used, facial recognition tech is less accurate at identifying people of those backgrounds, the study said. In some cases, it's possible to opt out of using facial recognition technology — and its high error rate. But sidestepping facial recognition often isn't possible, said Gideon Christian, a law professor at the University of Calgary who has written about the legal and societal aspects of facial recognition technology. Dear Tripped Up,Last September, my husband and I left our kids with their grandparents and set off to Ireland. Our $2,132 itinerary took us from Minneapolis to Toronto to Dublin on tickets booked on United Airlines through Expedia but ultimately operated by Air Canada, a United partner. Checkout time came and went without a word, so we went to the airport and were told to call Air Canada customer service. I skipped over Expedia, since your trip had already started, and reached out to United and Air Canada — as you flew on an airline’s partner, it’s a code share arrangement. Air Canada, on the other hand, took almost two weeks to get back to me, and its response was underwhelming.

CNN —Hamas said Tuesday there could be no “exchange of prisoners” before a ceasefire in Gaza, as it responded to proposals from Egyptian and Qatari mediators. “Any prisoner exchange will not be completed except after the completion of all this.”Hamdan also accused Israel of stalling on reaching an agreement and warned that the negotiations would not be “open-ended” as Israel continues its offensive in Gaza. The response came just hours after US President Joe Biden said a potential ceasefire was “in the hands of Hamas” as he boarded Air Force One at Hagerstown airport. Biden said the “Israelis have been cooperating” and that a ceasefire is necessary. “We need a ceasefire,” he said, calling the deal on the table a “rational offer” and saying the Israelis had agreed to it.

When I enrolled at New York University last year, I decided to pursue an internship in the hospitality industry as a freshman. However, given the relative scarcity of internships at luxury hotel companies in New York City, I broadened my search to opportunities nationwide. I received two offers: one from The Ritz-Carlton, Naples, and another from a corporate office in Las Vegas for a different hotel chain. First, residing in New York City offers access to almost unlimited flights, ensuring flexibility in timing and competitive pricing. This benefit — combined with a supportive manager who has been very accommodating of my schedule — offers a level of flexibility that would have been unattainable under any other circumstances.
