And when that happens, he’s got another project, Worldcoin, in the works to help fix it. To do that, it’s using its proprietary, basketball-ball sized “orbs” that scan people’s eyeballs and create a unique, immutable code based on the pattern of their irises. So I sat down (virtually) with Worldcoin’s co-founder and CEO, 30-year-old Alex Blania, to discuss the project’s origins and future. Handwritten notes from Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's papers on a major abortion case in 1989. The correspondence and notes foreshadow where O’Connor landed in the 1992 Planned Parenthood v. Casey case, when Justice Anthony Kennedy, hostile to Roe v. Wade in 1989, was ready to join O’Connor in upholding Roe. Accelerating the tensions all around was the time pressure of the Missouri case. Designer Diane von Furstenberg and Oprah Winfrey speaks onstage at the 3rd annual Diane Von Furstenberg awards at the United Nations on March 9, 2012 in New York City. Oprah Winfrey and Diane von Furstenberg have doubled down on their support for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, saying that the alternative option would be unacceptable for women. Speaking to CNBC, Winfrey said that women's reproductive rights had become one of the most pressing and divisive issues in the U.S. today, and that Harris was the only candidate who would preserve them. Winfrey, who spoke in support of Harris at the Democratic National Convention last month, was joined in a shared interview with von Furstenberg, who echoed her comments. When asked what she thought of the new challenges to women's rights, she said it was "unacceptable."

In a statement Wednesday, his attorney said Combs “is shocked and disappointed” by Richard’s lawsuit. According to the suit, Richard tried multiple times to intervene, offered Ventura support and encouraged her to leave Combs. Like other lawsuits, including Ventura’s, Richard’s suit depicts Combs as violent and controlling. Throughout the productions of the “Making the Band” series, the suit alleges, she and the members of Danity Kane were deprived of basic needs such as adequate food and sleep. The suit also alleges Richard attended parties at Combs’ houses, where she witnessed what she believed were inebriated underage girls being sexually violated by Combs and his guests.

Social Security recipients can expect next year's annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) to be the lowest since 2021, following cooler inflation readings in July and August. The Social Security Administration is expected to announce the official cost-of-living adjustment for 2025 on Oct. 10. Much of the political debate about Social Security remains focused on reforming — and ultimately paring back — the entire program. But earlier this year, Democratic Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania introduced the Boosting Benefits and COLAs for Seniors Act, designed to increase Social Security benefits at a rate "that actually reflects the costs seniors face." "The Boosting Benefits and COLAs for Seniors Act would help seniors contend with rising costs and ensure that Social Security remains a lifeline for all who need it.”

It wasn’t until Trump’s closing statement that he tried to effectively pin Vice President Kamala Harris to President Joe Biden’s administration. Not only did Trump fail to connect Harris more directly with the Biden years, but so did the questions. And Harris certainly took advantage of every opportunity to turn many of the questions directed at her or the Biden-Harris administration back on Trump. And Harris also benefited because the moderators didn’t always follow up with her when she didn’t answer their questions directly. (Again, Trump didn’t acknowledge any failures in his administration other than the people he fired, and Harris didn’t seem to hug the Biden-Harris record very much.)

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has long conjured images of war that Europe thought had been consigned to the history books. Several Ukrainian military units have shared videos of these drones in action in recent days. Ukraine’s 108th separate mountain assault battalion shared another video over the weekend, saying that its drone pilots had flown the “dragon drones” over Russian positions. Video purportedly shows a Ukrainian "dragon drone" shared on Telegram by Zelenskyy's chief adviser Andriy Yermak on Monday. They also include at least one instance of the fiery drones being used in Russia’s border Kursk region, which Ukrainian troops invaded last month, he said.

Gaza’s Health Ministry says over 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the war began. Hamas-led militants killed some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, in their Oct. 7 attack. Median income rose to $80,610 in 2023

Median household income rose to $80,610 in 2023, essentially the same as it was in 2019, the Census Bureau reported Tuesday. The typical household’s income rose 4% from 2022, driven primarily by an increase in workers’ earnings. There were widespread gains across the income ladder, though income inequality did not change significantly between 2022 and 2023. Changes in the poverty rateThe official poverty measure fell to 11.1% in 2023, down 0.4 percentage points from the year before. The supplemental poverty measure has been closely watched in recent years because it showed the impact of many federal Covid-19 pandemic relief programs.

But this year, men’s tennis has had a different complexion since none of Federer, Nadal or Djokovic has won a grand slam title for the first time since 2002. Whatever comes next is unlikely to mirror the previous era, leaving men’s tennis in an unfamiliar position, shorn of its three biggest icons who transcended the court. Carlos Alcaraz has already won four grand slam titles at the age of 21. “There has to be a real recalibration … because I already see people talking, like, ‘Can Alcaraz catch Djokovic’s grand slam record?’” Rothenberg tells CNN Sport. MarineMax is a smart pick for investors looking for beneficiaries of lower interest rates, according to Citi. Analyst James Hardiman upgraded shares of the boat dealer to buy from neutral and upped his price target by $4, or 10%, to $44. Key to Hardiman's upgrade is the idea that the stock can get a boost when the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates. After holding interest rates steady at 5.25% to 5.50% for more than a year, the long-awaited first cut may come as soon as next week. Shares briefly popped more than 7% in early Monday trading, a reprieve after a tough 2024, when MarineMax shares have tumbled more than 21%.

The plot to topple Putin

But it was only when Putin launched his full-scale invasion of Ukraine , in 2022, that Ammosov began to plot the overthrow of his homeland. While it might look like there's a flurry of advertising hiring, industry insiders say the reality is more sobering. AdvertisementLegacy media companies have sharply cut staff in recent years, including sales, and those jobs aren't coming back. Disney has said it plans to automate half its ad sales. "The number of good job opportunities are few and far between because the large media companies are not hiring as quickly. The long-awaited Google-DOJ showdown focuses on the $31 billion portion of Google’s ad business that matches website publishers with advertisers. “One monopoly is bad enough, but a trifecta of monopolies is what we have here,” said Wood, the DOJ attorney, referring to Google’s publisher ad server business, its advertising exchange AdX, and its advertiser ad network. Authorities have called for that group of businesses within Google — which is distinct from Google’s search or search ads business — to be broken up. Factoring in those other sources of competition drops Google’s share of the ad exchange market from 34% to 17%, said Dunn, Google’s attorney. Still, a breakup of Google’s ad tech business could potentially trigger a shakeup of the digital advertising industry and Google’s role within it.
