A Colorado jury on Monday rejected an insanity defense and convicted the man who gunned down 10 people at a Boulder supermarket three years ago of murder. Ahmad Alissa, 25, was found guilty on all 55 charges, including 10 counts of first-degree murder, in the March 22, 2021, assault at King Soopers. A disturbance in the Caribbean Sea is expected to strengthen into a hurricane that will take aim at Florida midweek. A turn toward the northwest is expected Tuesday followed by an acceleration in speed toward the northeast on Wednesday and Thursday, the hurricane center said. Some of the four people killed in a deadly Alabama shooting had "extensive criminal" histories and might have been killed in a "cowardly" murder-for-hire hit, authorities said Monday. Officials were searching for a runaway bull in southern Massachusets early Monday after a herd of the animals jumped a fence at a rodeo event a day earlier. “Community members should exercise extreme caution and not approach the bull if found. The animals escaped their pens, ran through the parking lot and jumped over the fence, before fleeing south towards nearby woods, according to Coleman. CNN —California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed a lawsuit against ExxonMobil on Monday for what the state calls a “decades-long campaign of deception” in which the oil and gas giant allegedly misled the public on the merits of plastic recycling. Bonta is also asking the court to rule ExxonMobil must pay civil penalties, among other payments, for the harm inflicted by plastic pollution in California. “For decades, ExxonMobil has been deceiving the public to convince us that plastic recycling could solve the plastic waste and pollution crisis when they clearly knew this wasn’t possible. Recent reports have shown only around 9% of the world’s plastic is recycled, a figure that’s even lower in the US, around 5 to 6%. Recycling has not kept pace with plastic production, which has doubled over the past 20 years.

Echoing well-trodden disinformation that has infected the U.S. presidential election, pop icon Janet Jackson said she has heard Vice President Kamala Harris is not Black. Jackson is quoted as saying during the interview in her adopted hometown of London. The author wrote that she responded with a correction, telling Jackson that Harris does have Indian heritage but is also Black. Father Donald J. Harris, an economist and Stanford University professor emeritus, was born in Jamaica and is Black. "I think either way it goes is going to be mayhem," Jackson is quoted as saying.
