"A 50 basis point Fed cut in September is clearly justified as the labor market is now showing clear signs of softening," said Yung-Yu Ma, chief investment officer at BMO Wealth Management. The firm, which has long been saying the Fed will need to cut aggressively this year, expects another 50 basis point cut in November by a 25 basis point cut move in December. A basis point is 0.01 percentage point. The S & P 500 lost more than 2.5% and Treasury yields plummeted, sending the policy-sensitive 2-year note down more than a quarter percentage point to 3.91%. "It's very possible the Fed alters its inter-meeting communications on the balance of risks to remove all doubt [of] a September rate cut."

Earlier this week, another product contending for the future of AI companionship made its debut: an eavesdropping necklace called Friend. AdvertisementSchiffmann's original vision for an AI hardware device was a pendant that would act as a more standard-fare AI assistant called Tab — he once described it as a "wearable mom." Of the many AI hardware devices that launched in recent months, such as Humane's AI pin, Meta's smart glasses, and Rabbit's AI-powered R1, Friend is the most personal contender. In fact, on the day Friend launched, a competing AI hardware founder named Nik Shevchenko released a diss track — as any self-respecting 23-year-old AI hardware founder would do — insinuating that Schiffmann stole his idea. (It would not be the first time that Shevchenko built an open source competitor that closely resembled another AI hardware device.

But good habits and a well-established routine can help you make the choices you are trying to stick to, she told CNN earlier. Habits are behaviors people engage in without conscious thought and are reinforced through repetition, social psychologist Wendy Wood told CNN in a previous article. Try to sleep better: Babies and young children often have a specific routine every night to help them sleep better — maybe it’s a bath, a few books, a song and a snuggle. Grown-ups need that, too, clinical psychologist and sleep expert Michael Grandner told CNN earlier. Along with its S24 series of smartphones, foldable devices, smartwatches and now the Galaxy Ring, Samsung is hoping to lock users into its world of products held together with its suite of artificial intelligence features, known as Galaxy AI. Arjun KharpalOne of the things Samsung said was look, the ring is one product, but we've got the watch, we've got the smartphone. I think that's the right approach for Samsung, I don't think they have unrealistic expectations for volumes on this. And you'd feel like if there was some sort of Apple ring, it would do pretty good volumes. Installing solar panels can be back-breaking work, so one of the largest renewable energy companies is using robots to do the heavy lifting. AES Corporation on Tuesday introduced "Maximo," an AI-powered robot that can lift solar panels and precisely place them into long rows. The robot will be used to construct the largest solar farm with battery storage in the US, which will help power Amazon's data centers. AES said Maximo can install solar panels twice as fast as humans and at half the cost. He estimated that last year, PSA graded at least 6 million Pokémon trading cards out of the total 14 million it processed. It's made a lifetime total of more than 64.8 billion Pokémon cards since 1999, and production has been accelerating rapidly since the pandemic. Anxiety may increase risk of dementia, study finds
  + stars: | 2024-07-29 | by ( Kristen Rogers | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +8 min
ingwervanille/Moment RF/Getty ImagesMore than 55 million people worldwide have dementia, a number expected to increase to 139 million by 2050. Previous studies exploring the relationship between anxiety and dementia have largely measured participants’ anxiety at one point in time, providing mixed conclusions — but how long someone’s anxiety lasts is an important aspect worth considering, the authors argued. Researchers measured participants’ anxiety at the first and second assessments. Someone’s anxiety was considered resolved if they had anxiety only at the time of the first wave. “This study agrees with earlier studies that therapy aimed at alleviating anxiety can help reduce risk for (Alzheimer’s disease).

Every year, nearly 10,000 electricians either retire or change careers, but only about 7,000 new ones enter the field. "We're benefitting from a generation that's looking past high school and is not seeing a career going through the traditional four-year college pathway. Contributing to that shift are high school guidance counselors like Steve Schneider, who has advised students for 28 years, currently at Sheboygan South High School in Wisconsin. It offers high school students hands-on training alongside workers from local companies, introducing them to skilled trades and other occupations, which can lead to an apprenticeship after graduation. Among LATTC's 12,000 students, 4,600 are currently enrolled in electrician training, he said, adding that tuition is around $1,000 a year.
