Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered President Joe Biden “all my appreciation” as the two met at the White House on Wednesday, before the wartime leader was set to address a joint meeting of Congress. In the Oval Office meeting, Biden confirmed that the U.S. will be giving Ukraine the Patriot Missile battery the country has requested to counter Russian missile and air attacks. When his large motorcade of black SUVs pulled up the White House, the president and first lady Jill Biden greeted the Ukrainian president before heading inside. Zelenskyy, wearing his now-familiar army-green casual attire, handed Biden the medal in a wooden display case, giving details about the soldier who he said wanted it delivered to Biden. “Well, undeserved, but much appreciate it,” Biden responded, before calling his counterpart “the man of the year” in reference to the Time magazine accolade that Zelenskyy received.
They really found their rhythm against Croatia, sweeping aside a team who had just knocked out Brazil, to march into the final on high. France looked the best side in the tournament in their first two group games and recovered from the Tunisia blip to turn on the style in beating Poland 3-1. The final will mark his 26th World Cup appearance, more than any other player, as the stars are seemingly aligning for the mini-maestro. Having lost to Germany in the 2014 final, Argentina are seeking a third triumph to follow 1978 and '86 but France are the team of the moment. I think he's more versatile than Messi, who has a wonderful left foot, but Ronaldo is the better footballer and athlete," England fan David Barley told Reuters. Both are playing at their fifth World Cup but neither has yet won the trophy. He's a good player, he scores also, he assists -- what a player, he's the best player of all time."
MADRID, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Two Ukrainian opera houses were awarded this year's "Opera Oscar" for offering up mellifluous cadenzas and virtuosic trills amid power cuts and artillery blasts on their country's territory - allowing audiences to evade, if only for a few hours, the war outside. In recognition of their "outstanding work in challenging circumstances", the opera theatres in the Ukrainian cities of Lviv and Odesa jointly clinched the Company of the Year prize at the International Opera Awards ceremony held on Monday in Madrid's Teatro Real. The jury celebrated their "courage and resilience for continuing to perform despite the dangers and depredations unleashed by the war." Samoan tenor Pene Pati bagged the Opera Magazine Readers' award, the only one decided by popular vote instead of a jury. Soprano Sabine Devieilhe and baritone Stephane Degout, both French, won Female Singer and Male Singer, respectively.

London CNN —Andy Taylor, guitarist with British New Romantic group Duran Duran at the height of their fame, is battling stage four prostate cancer. You can dream about what happened to us but to experience it, on one’s own terms, as mates, was beyond incredible,” Taylor wrote in the message relayed by Le Bon. According to the American Cancer Society, about one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime.
Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor was not able to attend Saturday night's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where the band was honored, due to a setback in a stage 4 prostate cancer diagnosis, according to a statement from the English band. "Just over 4-years ago I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer," the letter read. "Recently I was doing okay after some very sophisticated life extending treatment, that was until a week or so ago when I suffered a setback," Taylor wrote. Taylor said it was an honor to even be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, let alone inducted, and addressed his bandmates of 44 years as his brothers. Duran Duran was the first act inducted at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles Saturday night.

ZURICH, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Swiss tennis great Roger Federer's hometown won't be naming a street after him - at least for now. Officials and politicians in Basel have begun discussions on how to honour the 20-time grand slam singles champion, who retired from the ATP tour last month. But city surveyor Paul Haffner ruled out prospects of Federer getting his own street, an accolade already bestowed on him by some Swiss and German cities. "The policy in Basel is that only deceased individuals have a square or a street named after them," Haffner told Swiss broadcaster SRF. I had to depend more on my partner's salary and fell out of touch with professional contacts. Thanks to my partner's salary, my six-month-leave stretched longer. I was still saddled with societal pressures around work: working mom friends quizzed me constantly about my return, and I stressed about being "unproductive." While my partner's salary covers our basic living expenses, and mine goes to savings and student debt, our kid doesn't have a college fund yet — and we won't be able to retire before our 70s. The economic sexism of caregiving cost me years of career momentum, salary, and the ability to save for retirement — even more worrisome now that I am disabled by long COVID.

With such a distinguished accolade in footwear and a name like Thursday Boot Company, you'd think that the startup had every intention on staying in footwear, but that's not the case. Aside from the attractive colorways available, what I like about the Thursday Briefcase is its size and the optional shoulder strap. On top of that, many options don't have a shoulder strap, making them handheld only. With the Thursday Boot Company Briefcase, I was able to fit everything I'd normally carry in my backpack when commuting. If you're looking for a stylish, functional briefcase that's also durable and affordable, the Thursday Boot Company Briefcase is the way to go.
