An initial DNA test on remains believed to be those of Joseph Couch, the suspect in the Interstate 75 shootings, was inconclusive, but an autopsy confirmed the cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, state officials said. The soft tissue DNA test was “inconclusive due to extreme decomposition of the body,” and a further DNA test with material extracted from bone will be completed, the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet said in a news release. In a statement, Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey said he appointed attorney Hank Brennan to lead the effort to retry Read as special assistant district attorney. Morrissey described Brennan as a skilled former prosecutor and a long-time defense attorney with an expertise in complex law enforcement matters. Brennan was a longtime lawyer for Bulger before the crime boss was killed in a federal prison in West Virginia in 2018. The lead prosecutor in the case, assistant district attorney Adam Lally, will remain on the team that will retry Read, according to Morrissey’s statement.

A Philadelphia man admitted to reporting a hoax mass shooting and then a bomb threat in retaliation over a fantasy football argument, authorities said Wednesday. "On August 15th a man named (the victim) is headed around oslo and has a shooting planned with multiple people on his side involved. Norwegian authorities spent 900 man hour investigating and disproving that threat, Fish said. “While already being prosecuted for one hoax threat spurred by, of all things, his fantasy football league, Matthew Gabriel inexplicably decided to send another,” U.S. Attorney Jacqueline Romero said. Court documents did not outline the nature of Gabriel's beef with the University of Iowa student and Fish declined to reveal those details.

The St. Ann Police Department received a tip around 1 p.m. Tuesday through the Courage2Report tip line about a threat to Ritenour High School in St. Louis. Police found the teen sitting in a car in the parking lot of Husky Academy, about a mile away from the high school with a fully loaded gun. The video the teen posted to social media panned to show an unoccupied police vehicle parked next to the teen’s car. The teen, a former student with the Ritenour School District, was charged with first-degree terrorist threat, resisting arrest, and unlawful use of weapons. The chief said the police department has already investigated seven unsubstantiated school shooting threats since the beginning of the school year.

A former CIA officer was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison for drugging and sexually abusing and filming multiple women without their consent, in one of the most serious misconduct cases in the agency's history. He also pleaded guilty to drugging and sexually abusing four women, as well as engaging in nonconsensual sexual contact with six women, as part of a plea agreement. "After drugging these women, he stripped, sexually abused, and photographed them. Raymond read out a statement in court in which he expressed remorse for his actions, according to the AP.
