LONDON, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Shares in Round Hill Music Royalty Fund (RHM.L), which owns the copyrights to work of major artists such as the Beatles, soared as much as 67% on Friday after a $496 million buyout offer from Alchemy Copyrights. Shares in Round Hill Music were up 64% at $1.125 by 0753 GMT, having hit a record $1.15 earlier on. In a note, Jefferies said it expects Alchemy's offer is "highly likely to be successful" despite coming at a discount to net asset value. Shareholders in Round Hill Music will get $1.15 in cash per share, a discount of approximately 11.5% to RHM's NAV per share of $1.30 as of September 8. Jefferies said Hipgnosis "trades on a similar discount, but is a larger vehicle, with arguably a more iconic music portfolio."

Ambivalent during early internal debate, Kavanaugh eventually gave Roberts enough confidence that he could write an opinion for a majority. The state’s approach would have wholly undercut the history and purpose of the landmark Voting Rights Act, passed at the height of the Civil Rights movement to try to end race discrimination. Senior conservative Thomas, who has been unyielding in his rejection of race-based practices, was ready to write a far-reaching opinion against the court’s Voting Rights Act precedent for redistricting. Meanwhile, Kavanaugh and Roberts came together, ensuring the chief a five-justice majority for the robust endorsement of Voting Rights Act remedies when states discriminate in redistricting. The Alabama redistricting case shook out differently as Kavanaugh signed a significant portion of Roberts’ opinion.

Workers walk through the Canary Wharf financial district, ahead of a Bank of England decision on interest rate changes, in London, Britain, August 3, 2023. REC also reported that starting salaries rose at the joint-slowest pace since March 2021, although this was still a large increase by historic standards. A BoE survey on Thursday showed employers expect to raise wages by 5% over the coming year, above the 3-4% rate typical before the pandemic, when inflation stayed close to target. REC said there were "widespread reports" from its members that the pool of jobseekers had been swollen by increased redundancies. The REC surveyed around 400 recruitment agencies between Aug. 10 and Aug. 24.

The economic setbacks are eroding Mr. Xi’s image of imperious command, and emerging as perhaps the most sustained and thorny challenge to his agenda in over a decade in power. “The worse things get for China’s economy, the more likely it is that Xi Jinping has to make some course correction.”Earlier this year, Mr. Xi started his third term as China’s president, appearing indomitable. Saudi’s sweetened oil lollipop betrays its nerves

LONDON, Sept 6 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman thinks he needs to sweeten his oil lollipop. The Saudi energy minister has announced that the world’s top oil exporter will extend its 1 million barrels a day production cuts for another three months until the end of this year. On the surface, global trends are helpful for oil, reducing the need for extended OPEC+ cuts. Besides uncertainties over the effectiveness of China’s latest property measures, one surprise has been the strength of Iranian supplies, which are set to rise by 1 million barrels this year to 3.5 million barrels per day by late September. Moreover, Washington may not sit idly by if higher oil prices sabotage the Federal Reserve’s inflation target and damage the economy.

Story contains strong languageUkraine’s counteroffensive was in its second month when Andrey, a Russian soldier, called his wife to say his unit was taking heavy casualties. The expletive-laden intercepts, shared with Reuters by a Ukrainian intelligence source, provide a rare - albeit partial - glimpse into the conditions of some Russian soldiers as Kyiv prosecuted a major counteroffensive, which started in early June, two military analysts told Reuters. Ukraine has acknowledged that its efforts to recapture territory have been hindered by vast Russian minefields and well-prepared defensive lines. The Ukrainian intelligence source said they illustrated the challenges facing Russian soldiers but did not elaborate on how the recordings were selected. In the excerpts, several soldiers used profane language to describe Russian units that had taken heavy casualties and had been unable to retrieve their wounded.
