And a New New Haven SliceIf Chrissy’s is repping the New York pie, then Lala’s in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, is the Connecticut delegate. This city isn’t exactly head over heels for rival pizza styles, so it’s particularly brave of Grimm Artisanal Ales to give over its entire rooftop to apizza (the New Haven term for its local style). I’ve been a fan of Grimm for a long time — it was going hard on light-bodied sours during the New England I.P.A. Go for the tomato pie, a cracker-thin pizza with shaved garlic, or the cozy pie with chunks of potato. You want New York pizza?

Americans have flocked to annuities for guaranteed income over the past year, as interest rates rose and investors looked for safety amid the market turbulence and recession concerns. One of the popular products has been fixed-rate deferreds which — as the name implies — provide a fixed rate for a specific period of time. "So that opportunity to get a more competitive rate on a fixed annuity is not an indefinite window." Multiyear guaranteed annuities Traditional fixed annuities typically guarantee the rate for a portion of the contract, while a multiyear guaranteed annuity, or MYGA, has a rate of return that is guaranteed over the duration of the contract. When buying a fixed annuity, investors need to figure out the term that works best for them, said Limra's Hodgens.

Single-family homes in Arlington, Massachusetts. Around 75% of residential land in the United States is zoned for single-family homes only. This has had the effect of encouraging ever-larger single-family homes and limiting housing options, like smaller houses. “You can’t just do it all with zoning reform,” Walla Walla City Manager Elizabeth Chamberlain told CNN. The second wave of single-family zoning laws spread during the 1970s, historians say, and the policies became more restrictive.

Google (GOOGL.O) had asked for summary judgment on all the government's claims in the case, which is to go to trial next month. Google said Friday it appreciated the court's "careful consideration and decision to dismiss claims regarding the design of Google Search" in the case brought by the state attorneys general. Connecticut Attorney General William Tong praised the decision to allow the states Google search antitrust suit to proceed to trial. Mehta noted Google LLC operates the largest U.S. internet general search engine whose "brand name has become so ubiquitous that dictionaries recognize it as a verb." He noted Google in 2020 had nearly 90% market share and advertisers spend over $80 billion annually alone to reach general search users.

REUTERS/Michelle McLoughlin/File PhotoNEW YORK, Aug 4 (Reuters) - A divided federal appeals court on Friday rejected a challenge to a Connecticut law that ended the state's decades-old religious exemptions from immunization requirements for children in schools, colleges and day care. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan said ending religious exemptions, while still allowing medical exemptions, was a rational means to promote health and safety by reducing the potential spread of vaccine-preventable diseases. He said many U.S. courts have reviewed vaccination mandates for children that lack religious exemptions, and only one, in Mississippi, has ever found constitutional problems. Five other U.S. states--California, Maine, Mississippi, New York and West Virginia--also lack religious exemptions. Connecticut's law, signed by Governor Ned Lamont, does not apply to children from kindergarten to 12th grade who previously had received religious exemptions.

REUTERS/David 'Dee' Delgado/File PhotoAug 3 (Reuters) - A federal judge on Thursday rejected a gun rights group's challenge to an assault weapons ban the state of Connecticut adopted after a gunman in 2012 killed 20 children and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. The National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) filed a lawsuit in September, arguing the 2013 ban violated the right to bear arms under the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment, citing a major U.S. Supreme Court ruling last year that expanded gun rights. But U.S. District Judge Janet Bond Arterton in New Haven in a 74-page ruling rejected those claims, saying the group failed to establish that assault weapons and large capacity magazines are commonly bought and used for self-defense. Arterton, an appointee of former Democratic President Bill Clinton, cited "persuasive" evidence by the state that assault weapons are instead more often sought out for their militaristic characteristics and are often used in crimes and mass shootings.

A pair of Democrats introduced a bill to eliminate interest on existing federal student loan balances. "Thanks to this fix, 43 million Americans with existing federally held student loans would see their interest rates immediately eliminated," the press release said. The federal government should not exacerbate the problem by making money off borrowers' federal student loans," Courtney said in a statement. This legislation comes as interest on student-loan payments is beginning to accrue again in September, with borrowers resuming payments one month later. People should not be incurring interest during this 12-month on-ramp period, so I highly urge the administration to consider suspending those interest payments."

U.S. colleges are set to release their essay prompts on Tuesday when the common application used by many schools becomes public for the upcoming admissions cycle. Many high school counselors are uncertain how students should handle questions of race and identity in their essays, Perez said. They also are wary that if they mention race in student recommendations, they will be inviting scrutiny or violating the court's order. "The general feeling with school counselors right now is mostly anxiety," Perez said. Private admissions counselors have already started working with students of color on essays that discuss their cultural heritage.

While many customers don't tip, those who do are helping businesses keep their prices stable. Some people are happy to tip almost every time they are prompted, and they're helping businesses pay their employees more without cutting into profits or raising prices. Farley told Insider that he usually leaves at least a small tip whenever businesses prompt him, even if it's for something that didn't require much "actual service" — like buying a drink at the counter. A similar story is playing out at businesses across the country, Laurence Kotlikoff, an economics professor at Boston University, previously told Insider. Personal experience working in the service industry causes some customers to tip almost every chance they getCamille Rogers, a 25-year-old Manhattan-based publicist, told Insider that she usually tips whenever it's an option.
