James Carville recently gushed to The Hill about the potential 2028 Democratic presidential bench. "These are some staggeringly talented politicians," Carville said of figures like Josh Shapiro and Wes Moore. And Carville already has his eye on some of the highest-profile Democratic politicians out there. Carville told The Hill that the perception of a large GOP farm team and a small Democratic bench was not the reality that he sees as he envisions a 2028 Democratic primary. "The Democratic bench is really long," Carville added.

Brent crude fell 15 cents to $86.25 a barrel at 0515 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures were down 13 cents at $82.69 a barrel. Market sentiment was also lifted by Thursday's U.S. consumer prices data for July, which fuelled speculation the Federal Reserve is nearing the end of its aggressive rate hike cycle. Data this week also showed China's consumer prices fell into deflation and factory gate prices extended declines in July, raising concerns about fuel demand in the world's second-largest economy.

They now charge 30 rupees ($0.40) extra for the cheese slice in most sandwiches, but are offering a free "cheezy" sauce instead. Subway has "replaced the cheese slice with liquid cheese blend ... You just lost a loyal customer," one unimpressed customer, Sumit Arora, wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. A Subway store manager in New Delhi told Reuters the new cheese sauce costs 400 rupees/kilogram. A cheese slice, said Culinary Brands' marketing head Mayur Hola, "can be added on at a small cost". A Subway sandwich costs around 200-300 rupees ($2.4 to $3.6) in India, and if a customer adds the cheese slice - which was once free - will now cost up to 15% higher.

WELLINGTON, Aug 10 (Reuters) - Netherlands forward Lineth Beerensteyn pulled no punches about the absent United States squad at the Women's World Cup on Thursday, saying the two-times reigning champions should have done their talking on the pitch. Researchers have unearthed the skeletal remains of a "vampire child" in a Polish graveyard. The child was buried face down with a triangular padlock on its foot. The skeletal remains of the child, who anthropologists believe was 5 to 7 years old, were discovered in an unmarked, mass cemetery in the Polish village of Pień, near Ostromecko. Triangular padlocks were attached to people’s feet to keep them tethered to the ground once buried, Poliński said. Investors may want to consider using the recent weakness in Nvidia to snatch up shares of the artificial intelligence darling, according to some Wall Street analysts. NVDA 5D mountain Nvidia shares over the last five trading days Nvidia ticked down less than 1% Thursday, and shares sit about 11% off their highs. Citi analyst Atif Malik encouraged investors to buy the weakness in shares, calling the supply concerns "overdone." But Steve Moore believes the economy still looks "very fragile". Inflation is still sapping poorer Americans' purchasing power, he told Fox Business Wednesday. Top economist Steve Moore is urging caution, though – warning the economy is not as robust as it seems. Moore sees high food and energy prices as the main threat to the economy's health, ahead of July's Consumer Price Index report, set to be released Thursday. Other economists, such as Nobel laureate Paul Krugman, believe massive food inflation has been driven by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, rather than Biden's fiscal policies.

LONDON, Aug 9 (Reuters) - The dollar eased on Wednesday after data showed the Chinese economy slipped into deflation last month, which upped the chances for the government to roll out extra stimulus measures and nudged investors into risk assets. Dollar selling by state-owned Chinese banks helped the yuan rally from a one-month low, dealers said. The Chinese central bank's stronger-than-expected exchange-rate fixing at 7.1588 per dollar before the open signalled its discomfort with the yuan's recent declines. The dollar index - which measures the performance of the U.S. currency against six others - eased 0.1%, paring some of Tuesday's 0.47% rise. "Chinese inflation data showed that consumer prices have barely moved in July, confirming that the world’s second-largest economy is stalling and may be moving into deflation," he said.

REUTERS/Adnan Abidi/File PhotoNEW DELHI, Aug 9 (Reuters) - India's greenhouse emissions rate dropped by a faster-than-expected 33% in 14 years as renewable energy generation rose and forest cover increased, according to two officials privy to latest assessment made for submission to the United Nations. India's rate of emissions intensity - the total amount of greenhouse gas emissions emitted for every unit increase of gross domestic product (GDP) - fell by 33% from 2005 to 2019, officials privy to the preparations of the Third National Communication (TNC) report said. India's average rate of reduction in emissions increased to 3% annually in the period 2016-2019, from just about 1.5% in the period 2014-2016. The progress made on reducing emissions intensity should help India avert pressure by developed nations to stop using coal, the second official said. Recently, India has also been trying to promote green hydrogen, manufactured by splitting water molecules using renewable energy.

SYDNEY, Aug 6 (Reuters) - South Africa coach Desiree Ellis said she thought Banyana Banyana could have beaten the Netherlands at the Women's World Cup on Sunday if they had taken their chances, rather than exiting in the first knockout stage with a 2-0 loss. Dutch goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar was named player of the match after keeping South Africa, and in particular striker Thembi Kgatlana, at bay with series of fine saves. "With a decision or a goal here or there, we could be speaking differently now, but I think the whole of South Africa should be really proud of this team." Ellis hoped that people would remember all the saves that goalkeeper South Africa Kaylin Swart made at the tournament, and not just the howler that gifted the Dutch their second goal after halftime on Sunday. "This team really punched above their weight considering that we do not have what everybody else has - a professional league."
