On Friday's episode of ABC's "Shark Tank," some of her extra work seemingly paid off. The founder of Phoenix-based clothing startup NineteenTwenty pitched her company's attire on the show, alongside her husband and part-time COO Zach Sankar. The pair started selling clothes in December 2022, and brought in $269,000 in annual revenue last year, Zach Sankar said. "That's all we can afford," Ashley Sankar said.

Jamie Grill | Tetra Images | Getty ImagesFor investors who want income, dividends may provide an answer. Dividend investment options may come in the form of single company stocks or dividend-paying funds, like exchange-traded funds or mutual funds. However, dividend-paying funds like ETFs or mutual funds may provide a broader exposure to dividend securities, often at lower costs, she said. For investors who are considering putting a portion of their portfolios in dividend-paying strategies to fulfill their income-seeking goals, there are some things to consider. What kind of dividend-paying fund fits my goals?

They’ve pressed forward even though a majority of Americans still see the Capitol rioters as responsible for an attack against democracy, according to the most recent polling. The most pressing concerns are for convicted rioters required to report to prison before Trump’s inauguration in January, and for rioters with sentencing hearings coming up, according to a source familiar with the discussions. “They’re thrilled with the election, but there’s a lot of uncertainty from their perspective,” the source told CNN. For convicted rioters already serving prison sentences, there’s even less hope to get them out based on Trump’s campaign rhetoric, the source said. She later told CNN that her strategy guide has already been sent to Trump and the Republican National Committee.

AdvertisementA year later, I got the opportunity to return to Amazon as a boomerang employee. I'd always been told that a value at Amazon was to treat "the candidate as a customer," but didn't experience that. Related storiesRTO implementation was inconsistentA few weeks later, in May 2024, I accepted a different offer from Amazon for a Nashville-based role on another team I'd applied for. My layoff should've been the writing on the wall — this place has changed — but I clung to the idea of the Amazon I'd once respected, not wanting to recognize what it had become. In fact, some borrowers are still paying off debt from last year's purchases. To that point, 28% of shoppers who used credit cards have not paid off the presents they bought for their loved ones last year, according to a holiday spending report by NerdWallet. However, this is a slight improvement from 2023, when 31% of credit card users had still not paid off their balances from the year before. Although overall credit card balances were 6.9% higher at the end of the third quarter compared to a year earlier, that's a significant improvement from the 15% year-over-year jump from Q3 2022 to Q3 2023, TransUnion found. Recent wage gains have also played a role, according to Paul Siegfried, TransUnion's senior vice president and credit card business leader.

But its more serious problems – ongoing massive losses, quality and safety problems – are as bad as ever, and could even get worse. Renewed problems in ChinaAmong the most serious problems Boeing faces is President-elect Donald Trump’s promise to impose large tariffs on imports from China. “There needs to be a full accounting for everything they do.”Need for new planesAnd there’s yet more mess Boeing needs to sort out. Ortberg told investors last month that Boeing needs to reduce its portfolio and repair its balance sheet so that Boeing has “a path to the next commercial aircraft.”The good news for Boeing is it is in little danger of going out of business, despite its many problems. And Airbus has a backlog of orders stretching back years, as does Boeing, so airline customers can not easily switch orders from one to the other.

The two internet search firms agreed a joint venture, called the European Search Perspective or EUSP, with ownership split 50-50 between both firms. Why build a European search index? Currently, alternative search engines like Ecosia, Qwant and DuckDuckGo don't develop their own back-end infrastructure. The new venture will see them build their own search index from scratch, however, amassing results from a mix of different search engines. Both companies will use the search index themselves but the tech will also be made available to other independent search engines and tech firms.

Family offices are increasingly bypassing private equity funds and buying stakes in private companies directly, according to a new survey. Half of family offices plan to do "direct deals" — or invest in a private company without a private equity fund — over the next two years, according to a family office survey from Bastiat Partners and Kharis Capital. As they grow in size and sophistication, family offices are becoming more confident about finding and negotiating their own private equity deals. "Family offices are being gradually recognized as an economic powerhouse in private markets," according to the report. The big challenge for family offices as they do more direct deals is so-called "deal flow," or the volume of possible deals.

CNN —An enormous, rancid-smelling, 52-foot sperm whale has lain beached on the shoreline of the Caspian Sea, the world’s largest lake, since Monday. It’s a jarring sight; no sperm whales live in this vast body of water. “When we think the story is right, we pop up in a city,” said Bart Van Peel of Captain Boomer. The aim is to play with fact and fiction, to challenge people’s beliefs and make them think, Van Peel told CNN. So far, thousands of people have gathered to stare at the whale since it was installed early Monday morning, Van Peel said.

The CBOE Volatility Index , known on Wall Street as the VIX, helps traders track when a market rally is actually unhealthy, said DataTrek co-founder Nicholas Colas. Monday's close for the VIX around 15 "is a healthy sign" for the temperature of the market as it advances, Colas wrote to clients. To put it succinctly: "Rallies built on an elevated VIX signal a bubble," he wrote. That's a lesson market participants learned, during the dot-com bubble of the mid- to late-1990s, he said. In the current bull market, dating back to the fourth quarter of 2022, however, the VIX has been largely "well behaved," Colas argued.

The United States announced Tuesday that there will be no significant policy shift towards Israel, at the conclusion of a 30-day U.S. deadline for improvement in humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza. We believe that, had it not been for U.S. intervention, these changes may not have ever taken place," said Patel. The demands and the deadline were laid out in a joint letter from Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, delivered Oct. 13. If Israel wants to continue to qualify for foreign military financing under U.S. law, Blinken and Austin wrote, at least 350 trucks per day of aid must be allowed to enter the war-ravaged Gaza Strip. The letter also called on Israel to provide heightened security for humanitarian sites, and an increase in the number of humanitarian pauses to its military operations.
