The lawsuits name Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, and their parent companies, including Meta and Google as defendants. In collaboration with youth, mental health, and parenting experts, we built services and policies to provide young people with age-appropriate experiences and parents with robust controls. Other lawsuits have been brought over social media addiction, including by dozens of state attorneys general who sued Meta last year. However, these are the first lawsuits over social media addiction brought by federally recognized tribes, according to Robins Kaplan, the firm that filed the suits.

There is no public evidence that Giuliani and Martorano know each other. Giuliani spokesman Ted Goodman, in an email to CNBC, said "This is a lawsuit unrelated to us." CNBC requested comment from lawyers for Martorano, his wife, and the other defendants in both the Georgia lawsuit and a federal civil racketeering and fraud lawsuit in California related to the alleged skincare cream scam. In her ruling, the judge wrote that the plaintiff "has shown by a preponderance of the evidence that Konnektive Defendants deceived banks and credit card companies." AdvertisementHappiness may be hard to define, but Gen Z knows at least one thing that helps them achieve it. But while nearly two-thirds of Gen Z identify as happy, that percentage drops significantly as people in the age group right as they reach adulthood (ages 18 to 26). The Gallup study isn't a direct comparison but did use previous surveys to assess differing happiness levels between Gen Z and prior generations, Hrynowski told the outlet. But the dive initially had nothing to do with the Titanic at all — it was a secret mission to find the wrecks of two nuclear submarines, the USS Scorpion and the USS Thresher. The USS Thresher sank in April 1963, and the USS Scorpion followed five years later, in May 1968. They remain the only nuclear submarines the Navy has ever lost, reported the United States Naval Institute. Xavier Desmier/Gamma-Rapho/GettyWith 12 days left in the mission, Ballard found the Titanic using a hunch that the ship had split in two and left a trail of debris. Instagram to crack down on teen sextortion
  + stars: | 2024-04-11 | by ( Samantha Murphy Kelly | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +4 min
The company announced on Thursday it is testing new features to curb an alarming trend called financial sextortion, which often targets kids and teenagers. Once the nude images are sent, the scammers claim they’ll post them online, either on public websites or on newsfeeds where their friends will see, unless the victims send money or gift cards. In the upcoming weeks and among a subset of users, Instagram said it will roll out various new features, such as blurring nude images sent in direct messages and informing users when they’ve interacted with someone who engaged in financial sextortion. But the FBI recently said it has seen an increase in financial sextortion cases from strangers, often started by scammers overseas. Meta said it is also working on ways to identify accounts that may be engaging in sextortion scams by detecting and monitoring likely sextortion behavior.

Gallup sampled 2,271 Gen Zers ages 12 through 26 at the end of November 2023. Just six in 10 Gen Zers responded that they always or often feel their life has direction, with feelings of significance and purpose lower among older Gen Zers. This drop was most pronounced for Gen Z employees — down six percentage points from last quarter — who increasingly feel less connected to their company's culture.

Nvidia and the Georgia Institute of Technology announced Wednesday the first artificial intelligence supercomputer designed for student use. At first, only Georgia Tech's undergraduate students will be able to use the computing cluster, which is fueled by Nvidia's enterprise AI software and a "virtual gateway" developed by Penguin Solutions. So far, students have used the supercomputer in just one class — foundations of machine learning — since the beginning of the semester, but Georgia Tech plans to continue scaling usage. Georgia Tech's supercomputer runs on 20 Nvidia HGX H100 systems, which house 160 of Nvidia's H100 GPUs, which are high in demand across the tech industry. For reference, it would take one of these 160 GPUs a single second to come up with a multiplication function that would take 50,000 students 22 years, according to a Georgia Tech release.

Due to lack of funds, April will be the final month the ACP can provide full benefits, the FCC said Tuesday. Next month, ACP subscribers can expect to receive only 46% of their usual benefit, the FCC said. After that, program subscribers may have to pay hundreds of dollars more per year to stay online, or could potentially have to give up internet service entirely. Many ACP subscribers have told CNN that without help, they could have to choose between paying for internet and putting food on the table. CNN is reaching out to major internet providers for comment on the FCC’s call for those voluntary measures.

Men had more strokes related to extreme temperatures than women, but it affected people across all age groups. While that may sound counterintuitive for global warming, cold temperatures also come along with climate change. Last year was the warmest since scientists started recording global temperatures in 1850 and temperatures are expected to break more records in the near future. The new study wasn’t designed to show why extreme temperatures that come with the climate crisis seem to be causing so many strokes. Extreme cold temperatures also can lead someone to have a stroke.

Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh (R) bids farewell to China's President Xi Jinping after their meeting at the Government Office in Hanoi on Dec. 13, 2023. Vietnam aims to start building two high-speed railway lines linking its capital Hanoi with China before 2030, the Ministry of Planning and Investment said, another sign of a recent warming of ties between the two Communist-ruled neighbors. China is Vietnam's largest trading partner and a vital source of imports for its manufacturing sector. The two countries are already connected via a system of highways and two railway lines that are old and need upgrading on the Vietnam side. One of the planned high-speed lines would run from Vietnam's port cities of Haiphong and Quang Ninh through Hanoi to Lao Cai province, which borders China's Yunan province, the ministry said in a statement released late on Tuesday.

A massive high-speed railway line linking capital Hanoi with business hub Ho Chi Minh City is also being planned in the country. There is no loneliness epidemic

With the report, a steady trickle of headlines about the epidemic turned into a firehose: "Loneliness is at epidemic levels and it's killing Americans" (USA Today); "This Epidemic of Isolation Is as Harmful as Smoking" (Bloomberg); "America's Loneliness Epidemic Comes for the Restaurant" (The Atlantic). There's one problem: The loneliness epidemic doesn't exist. Even the authors caution in their meta-analysis that "the frequently used term 'loneliness epidemic' seems exaggerated." Calling it a "loneliness epidemic," then, may be a bit like calling COVID a "sneezing pandemic." "There are many, many surveys that are just making up questions about loneliness and are not using the UCLA Loneliness Scale or some other validated loneliness scale," she says.
