There’s been an odd numbness in the political ecosystem regarding the apparent second attempt to assassinate former President Donald Trump. The problem with political discourse in America right now is that we are all stuck in a social media funhouse mirror booth. I promise you that the way Americans speak about one another online isn’t the way most Americans behave in person with one another. As social media rose and became the main distributor and facilitator of political information, our politics have become more combative and less collaborative. Right now, our political information ecosystem doesn’t reward incrementalism or nuance, instead punishing both and, more to the point, rewarding those who make up the best stories.

New York/London CNN —Tupperware Brands Corporation, whose food containers have been a mainstay in American kitchens, has filed for bankruptcy. “Over the last several years, the company’s financial position has been severely impacted by the challenging macroeconomic environment,” Laurie Ann Goldman, Tupperware president and CEO, said in a statement late Tuesday. Tupperware has historically only sold to consumers through so-called direct sales, most commonly at “Tupperware parties,” similar to cosmetic company Avon’s business model, and only began selling in Target in 2022. Many businesses file for bankruptcy protection to wind down some operations, shed debt and cut costs. A common route, also chosen by Tupperware, is Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which allows the company to solve its financial problems by restructuring.

The first two clips used in the new Harris ad come from Harris’ remarks after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in July, four days after President Joe Biden announced he wouldn’t seek another term in office. Black women are more likely than white women to die from even the most treatable types of breast cancer, a study published Tuesday in the Journal of Clinical Oncology found. While Black women and white women are diagnosed with breast cancer at similar rates, Black women are 40% more likely to die from the disease. For those with HR-positive, HER2-positive tumors, Black women were 34% more likely to die than white women. Black women were 17% more likely to die from triple-negative breast cancer than white women, a finding that surprised Warner. “If you look at breast cancer data from 40 years ago, there really weren’t differences in mortality for breast cancer between Black and white women.

The Food and Drug Administration expanded the approval of Kisqali, a drug for metastatic breast cancer, to also treat patients with earlier stages of the disease, drugmaker Novartis said Tuesday. The approval means that tens of thousands of women diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer will have access to a medication that can help prevent their cancer from coming back. The expanded approval is for patients with HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer, the most common form of the disease. It comes as rates of breast cancer are increasing in younger women: From 2000 to 2019, rates of breast cancer in women ages 20 to 49 increased by 15.6% according to a study published earlier this year in JAMA Network Open. “You’re always going to be faced with the fact every single day that you have had breast cancer,” she said.

New York CNN —United Auto Workers union President Shawn Fain said Tuesday the union plans to hold strike authorization votes against Stellantis because the automaker is failing to live up to guarantees it made in the 2023 labor deal it reached with the union at the conclusion of a six-week strike. During the livestreamed speech, Fain said that the union would be “holding strike authorization votes at one or more Stellantis locals. It is possible, since only some locals will be holding strike authorization votes, that only some plants will be struck. Asked Monday about an unfair labor practice charge by the UAW, Stellantis said it had yet to see the complaint and couldn’t comment directly on it. “We will communicate our plans to the UAW at the appropriate time.”But Fain blasted that statement from Stellantis.

We work with organizations to support their early career talent, providing them with training on navigating uncertainties around personal financial literacy and how businesses work. When you're working at Big Four companies, there are all sorts of rules and regulations about the types of investments you're allowed to make because of audit restrictions. I recommend that early career professionals talk to their peers about what works for them from a personal finance position.
