LOS ANGELES, May 8 (Reuters) - Writing for a new season of "The Handmaid's Tale" and a coming "Game of Thrones" prequel was halted as a nearly week-long strike by thousands of film and television writers rippled across Hollywood on Monday. Writing of the dystopian drama stopped when the Writers Guild of America (WGA) called a strike last week, Chang told Reuters on Monday. Martin said in a blog post that the writers' room for prequel series "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight" was "closed for the duration of the strike." Warner Bros has not announced a release date for "The Hedge Knight." The second season of "House of the Dragon," another "Game of Thrones" prequel, began filming in April, Martin said, and will continue in London and Wales.

Photo: Cover Images/Zuma PressLONDON—King Charles III’s coronation this weekend got rave reviews from the British press, part of what appears to be a fragile truce between the notoriously aggressive U.K. media and the new king, after a long and sometimes frosty relationship. The former Prince of Wales has had a famously fraught time with the British press, especially when he had an affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles, now his wife and queen, while married to Diana, princess of Wales. He was also mocked for years over everything from his ears to his penchant for talking to plants.
Paris CNN —France’s finance minister is in the spotlight. “It is about music, my passion for music,” Le Maire insisted of the novel, whose central character is a piano virtuoso. Some in France chastized the finance minister for devoting time to writing, especially as the country weathers economic headwinds. The French finance ministry confirmed to CNN that Le Maire had warned the French presidency of the book before its release. And the finance minister seemed unabashed on Twitter.

Yui Mok/Pool via REUTERSLONDON, May 6 (Reuters) - From traditional robes to statement headpieces, royals and guests wore an array of colourful outfits for the coronation of Britain's King Charles III on Saturday, filling London's Westminster Abbey with a mix of hues and designs. The monarch arrived at the Abbey in the crimson velvet Robe of State, worn by his grandfather King George VI at his 1937 coronation, a crimson coronation tunic and cream silk overshirt with royal naval trousers. Charles' siblings also wore traditional robes, while his nieces - Princesses Beatrice, Eugenie, Zara and Lady Louise wore dresses or coats in fuchsia, blue and floral prints respectively. There were traditional outfits from across the Commonwealth and peers wore red ceremonial robes. Colourful and statement hats and fascinators in fuchsia, orange and red peppered the Abbey.
In the down-to-the-minute choreography of Saturday’s coronation, William and Catherine, the Prince and Princess of Wales, had been expected to arrive outside Westminster Abbey at roughly 10:45 a.m. They would be among the last guests to enter the church before the stars of the show, King Charles III and Queen Camilla. Instead, Charles and Camilla pulled up to the abbey in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach and then, rather awkwardly, did not alight. Were William and Kate running late? None of the hundreds of journalists loitering by the broadcast booths outside Buckingham Palace seemed to know for sure.
Once Close, William and Harry Are Now Rows Apart

And so it was striking, and a little sad, to see how far Charles’s two sons — Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, and Prince William, the Prince of Wales — have drifted apart in the past few years. William had an official role in Saturday’s coronation, as the heir to the throne; Harry had none at all, except as a relative demoted to the third row of Westminster Abbey. It’s unclear whether the two acknowledged each other at all as William processed in, long after Harry took his seat. Dressed in a morning suit with a slew of medals on his chest, Harry smiled gamely as he entered the abbey. William wore full military regalia and at one point dropped to his knee and pledged allegiance to Charles, a moment that was both shockingly anachronistic and strangely touching.
SYDNEY, May 6 (Reuters) - A decision not to light up the sails of the Sydney Opera House to mark the coronation of King Charles was a cost saving measure, a spokesperson for the state government of New South Wales said on Saturday. Across Australia, where King Charles is head of state, the role of the monarchy is controversial. On Sunday, celebrations at Parliament House are set to include Australian military personnel firing off a 21-gun salute, and an Australian air force fly-past. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, in London for the coronation, has said he will take the oath of allegiance to King Charles at the ceremony, despite being a republican. In addition to Australia, King Charles is head of state in New Zealand and 12 other Commonwealth realms outside the United Kingdom, although the role is largely ceremonial.
The coronation ceremony followed a procession from Buckingham Palace. Coronation chair The coronation service is a solemn, religious occasion full of symbolism. The chair was cleaned ahead of this year’s ceremony for King Charles. The bejewelled Sword of Offering, made for the coronation of George IV in 1821, was one of the objects used during the coronation ceremony. They date back to 1661 and have been used at every coronation from King Charles II’s until King George VI’s in 1937, with new armills specially prepared for Queen Elizabeth in 1953.
Thousands rally in Australia against potential submarine base

SYDNEY, May 6 (Reuters) - Thousands of people rallied on Saturday against a future nuclear-powered submarine base at Port Kembla in eastern Australia as part of the A$368 billion ($244.1 billion) AUKUS defence pact with the United States and Britain. The second-largest coal export port in New South Wales state is the Defence Department’s preferred site for a new east-coast submarine base, according to state broadcaster ABC. Australian Defence Minister Richard Marles said last month no decision had been made on a site for a new east coast submarine base. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has defended the submarine project after two former leaders criticised the deal over its cost, complexity and potential sovereignty issues. The deal unveiled in March will see Australia purchase U.S. Virginia-class submarines before joint British and Australian production of a new submarine class to be built in Australia by the early 2040s.

SYDNEY, May 6 (Reuters) - Fijiana Drua put aside a season of adversity to retain the Super W title with a 38-30 victory over the Queensland Reds in the final of the sixth edition of the Australian elite women's competition in Townsville on Saturday. While last year they topped the regular season standings, this year the Drua finished fourth and had to beat the four-times champion New South Wales Waratahs in the semi-finals to reach the final. On Saturday, tries from Drua number eight Sereima Leweniqila and winger Adita Miliana early in the second half broke open what had been a tight game. Hooker Tiarna Molloy and replacement winger Sam Curtis scored tries to make the scoreline more respectable but the Reds were unable to escape a fourth loss in the five Super W finals. "What an epic battle that was tonight, we'll definitely be back next year," said Queensland captain and Olympic Sevens champion Shannon Parry.

LONDON, May 6 (Reuters) - Police arrested the leader of the anti-monarchy group Republic and 51 others at King Charles' coronation on Saturday, with officers saying their duty to prevent disruption outweighed the right to protest. Most of the anti-monarchy protesters on Saturday had congregated in Trafalgar Square next to the bronze statue of King Charles I, who was beheaded in 1649, leading to a short-lived republic. Since Charles became king last September, there have been protests at royal events. Events to mark the coronation in other countries where Charles is head of state were also low key.
