SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Sahith Theegala returned from a lengthy weather delay to finish off a 6-under 65, taking the early lead in the unfinished first round of the Phoenix Open on Thursday. Five days after weather shortened the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am to 54 holes, storms followed the PGA Tour to the desert. Theegala broke through with his first PGA Tour win last fall at the Fortinet Championship, earning a spot in The Sentry to open the 2024 season. He chipped in on the par-4 second to start a run of three straight birdies before a bogey on No. 4 and had three straight birdies before the round was called because of darkness.

Lindsay Mustain has looked at a lot of resumes in her more than a decade in talent acquisition. But there's one mistake she sees jobseekers make over and over again, what she calls giving "Miss America answers," or ones she'd imagine hearing in a pageant. These are simple statements that don't give much insight into what candidates actually accomplished on the job. It's happening from the junior level "all the way up to the C-suite," she says, and it's preventing jobseekers from standing out. Here's what Miss America answers are and how to avoid writing them.

As a public-speaking coach who has worked with many executives and senior teams, I know how to make work presentations more engaging. AdvertisementInstead, try to capture their attentionBegin your presentation with a hook or a story — something that grabs their attention right from the start. You could also try to form a personal connectionOften, presentations lack a personal touch. This not only makes your work presentation more relatable but also helps to establish a deeper connection with your audience. AdvertisementTry to encourage interactionAt the very least, you should try to engage your audience from the beginning — whether in person or on virtual calls.

Read previewSuper Bowl advertisers have decades of datapoints telling them when it’s best to show up during the big game. But the presence of Taylor Swift is adding a strange new dimension to a lot of conventional beliefs about the optimal spot for an ad to appear. AdvertisementLike many other advertisers, Hellmann’s had no idea when they locked in their Super Bowl buys early last year that there’d be a media frenzy around the romance between Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Advertisers are already anticipating that Swift’s presence will drive more engagement for advertisers lucky enough to have booked the right spots, though it’s a bit of a crapshoot as there’s no guarantee when, or even if , Swift will make an appearance. There is also another spike in female viewership that happens during Super Bowl broadcasts.

An ex-Amazon and Comcast recruiter once came across an image of a man with a gun in a résumé. AdvertisementAn ex-Amazon recruiter described the most disturbing thing she had seen in a résumé, and it was a picture of a man holding a gun. Advertisement"The very last page was a picture, a full-blown picture of him holding a shotgun," she said. Mustain's concerns were valid, especially as images in résumés can lead to unconscious bias within the hiring process. "Plus, many employers are eager to avoid unconscious bias in their recruitment, using strategies like removing college and candidate names from resumes before reviewing them."

TAIPEI (Reuters) - Taiwan's Tourism Administration on Wednesday told travel agents to stop organising new group tours to China since Beijing has yet to allow such trips to the island by Chinese tourists and has altered a flight path in the sensitive Taiwan Strait. China claims democratically-governed Taiwan as its own territory despite the strong objections of the government in Taipei. But "considering the change in the situation", including China not allowing Chinese to visit Taiwan and China's altering of a flight route through the Taiwan Strait last week, Taiwanese travel agencies cannot arrange any more tours, the Tourism Administration said in a statement. China has downplayed the furore, saying it is a routine measure to alleviate air space pressure. Taiwanese are still able to visit China on individual trips, while Chinese who live in third countries have since last September been allowed to come to Taiwan again as tourists.

Lawmakers also said Wednesday that they want to at least temporarily suspend a sales tax exemption on equipment offered to data centers. Burt Jones touts as a way to shore up tax revenue so that Georgia could further cut its income tax rate for all residents and businesses. A study last year by Georgia State University suggested the state saw a return of less than 20 cents on the dollar. However, the credits are transferrable — production companies can sell them to any individual or business with state income tax liability. The data centers tax credit is projected to cost the state $44 million in foregone sales tax revenue this year, according to a 2022 University of Georgia study.

The appeals court has set up a very fast schedule for Donald Trump to appeal their ruling rejecting his claims of immunity from criminal prosecution. The court is giving Trump until February 12 to file an emergency stay request with the Supreme Court, which would stop the clock while his attorneys craft a more substantive appeal on the merits. If he is successful with that, the criminal trial will not resume until after the high court decides what to do with his request for a pause. If Trump does not appeal the ruling, the case would be sent back to the trial-level court in Washington, DC, as soon as next week for his trial to continue. Special counsel Jack Smith’s office declined to comment.

Trump has pledged to appeal and has until Monday to ask the Supreme Court to temporarily block the ruling. Perhaps to speed things along, the appeals court established a quick schedule for Trump to respond to Tuesday’s ruling, giving Trump until February 12 to file an emergency stay request with the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court, however, can take as long as it likes at each step. The cases are entirely separate – this is a criminal prosecution against Trump, and the upcoming Supreme Court case is a civil attempt to remove Trump from state ballots. Further, the appeals court’s findings and explanations in Tuesday’s ruling are not binding on the Supreme Court.

The Docusign Inc. application for download in the Apple App Store on a smartphone arranged in Dobbs Ferry, New York, U.S., on Thursday, April 1, 2021. Bain Capital and Hellman & Friedman have cooled in their pursuit of DocuSign Inc over disagreements on how much they should pay to acquire the provider of online signature services, people familiar with the matter said on Monday. It remains, possible, however, that the deal talks will resume in the future, the sources added, requesting anonymity because the matter is confidential. A deal for DocuSign would have been one of the biggest leveraged buyouts of 2024. A spike in financing costs in the last two years has made financing leveraged buyouts more expensive and big deals harder to clinch.
