The WNBA is “aware of today’s legal filing” and officials are “reviewing the complaint,” a WNBA spokesperson said. Hamby played for the organization from 2015 to 2022, winning a WNBA title in her last season. In May 2023, Hammon told reporters: “(Her pregnancy) wasn’t a problem, and it never was why we made the decision to move Hamby. The world champion Aces exiled Dearica Hamby for becoming pregnant and the WNBA responded with a light tap on the wrist,” Hamby’s attorneys said in Monday’s statement. Through a local organization, we connected with an outreach worker who supports vulnerable women. She was an essential link in making this film; her trust and love in the community made it possible for the women to open up to us. To ensure the women felt comfortable sharing their often ignored stories without fear of judgment or compromised privacy, we chose to incorporate animation. Her distinctive, stream-of-consciousness animation conveys the nuanced emotions and inner worlds of the women. We hope it fosters greater empathy and insight into lives that deserve to be understood and valued.

Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) shares are getting wrecked after its CEO Brian Niccol left to try and turn around Starbucks. With a positive outlook on CMG, I see this pre-market drop as an opportunity to invest in a company that seems almost recession-proof. The trade To initiate a bullish position on CMG, I plan to use a strategy known as a "bull call spread." This trade was written assuming Chipotle was trading around $51 a share. If CMG trades at or above the short strike by the expiration date, this trade could yield a return of 100% on the amount risked.

Japan's low interest rates made its currency a cheap option to borrow and fund other trades in the US and worldwide. So there's $6 trillion sitting in money market funds that is being held hostage to politics, he added. Advertisement"We've had these episodes of market volatility in the past, and the only path was in and out of equities," Quinlan said. Remember, as interest rates come down, you lock in two-, five-, or 10-year yields. Those money market funds are going to come down as the interest rates come down."

watch nowEconomists have said it is difficult to accurately assess the scale of the yen carry trade, with estimates varying widely. Some analysts, using Japan's foreign portfolio investments, say the yen carry trade could total as much as $4 trillion, Reuters reported. "The real Japan strategy is not just a quick carry trade, borrowing at close to zero interest rates in Japan and investing in high yield assets. Analysts at Barclays said systematic selling pressure does not appear to have been exhausted yet and it's "too early" to call an all-clear to the carry trades unwind. We expect volatility to remain elevated, which should continue to hurt EM carry trades," the analysts at Barclays said in a research note published Sunday.

During the sell-off, strategists at Goldman Sachs recommended buying the dip in US stocks, albeit carefully, as they reiterated their year-end S&P 500 price target of 5,600. Economically sensitive stocks have lagged defensives by at least 5 percentage points in a single week 12 times since 2000, according to Goldman Sachs. "Despite the weak jobs report, our economists believe continued economic expansion is far more likely than recession," Kostin wrote. Goldman Sachs found that those micro factors explained 86% of stock returns in the first half of 2024, versus the long-term average of 57%. Fewer worries about the near-term economic outlook mean stocks will no longer trade in lockstep — a win for active investors.

A key measure of wholesale inflation rose less than expected in July, opening the door further for the Federal Reserve to start lowering interest rates. Excluding volatile food and energy components, core PPI was flat. A further core measure that also excludes trade services showed an increase of 0.3%. Trade services prices fell 1.3% while margins for machinery and vehicles wholesaling tumbled 4.1%. An increase of 2.3% in portfolio management offset some of the decline in services prices.

While it waits to amass the ammunition, manpower, and resources to launch a large-scale, well-timed counteroffensive, Ukraine should experiment with ways to take the initiative and gain momentum, war analysts say. "Ukrainian forces," they argued, "are very unlikely to be able to initiate significant counteroffensive operations in 2024 and into 2025." Such a strategy isn't necessarily new for Ukraine, which has repeatedly found ways to deal unexpected blows to Russian forces despite a grueling ground fight. "It will also protract the war and dramatically increase its costs to Ukraine and to Ukraine's supporters," they said. "Ukraine should thus seek every possible way of restoring maneuver to this war as soon as possible, daunting though that task appears."

Prices rose more than 1% in the previous session. "Prices will benefit if the U.S. inflation data comes in on the softer side of the ledger, which would reignite hopes of an aggressive rate cut from the Fed in September." The CPI data is expected to show that headline and core prices rose 0.2% month-on-month. Markets see about 50% chance of a 50 basis point rate cut in September, according to the CME FedWatch Tool. "If markets become more optimistic of a 50 bp cut coming to fruition, this could propel the gold price to make a run at the $2,500 level," Waterer said.

Russian banks are running low on yuan, Bloomberg reported. AdvertisementAn intensifying supply crunch in the Chinese yuan has pressured Russians to embrace a costlier method of securing the needed currency, Bloomberg reported. With the yuan liquidity shortfall doubling, Russian firms have grown increasingly dependent on yuan swaps provided by the Bank of Russia, Bloomberg said, but borrowing the yuan this way comes at a higher rate. This hasn't stopped yuan swap activity from ballooning. But even before the fresh sanctions package took effect this summer, Chinese banks were already halting yuan payments with Russia over fears of Western repercussions.

Stocks have made a nice comeback after testing support last week in the wake of a violent summer swoon tied to the yen carry trade. CNN —US wholesale inflation slowed as expected in July, easing after an unexpected flare-up the month before. On a monthly basis, prices rose 0.1%, a slower pace than the 0.2% increase seen in June. Economists had expected that prices would increase 0.2% on a monthly basis and slow to 2.3% annually, according to FactSet estimates. The modest monthly increase in the overall PPI was attributed to a 0.6% jump in goods prices, according to the BLS report. When stripping out energy and food prices — categories that also tend to be volatile — core PPI prices were flat for the month, bringing down the annual gain to 2.4%, its lowest since March.

At the end of [the] 1980s, Japanese companies accounted for like 51% of the global semiconductor market. So by doing this ... one thing undercut Japanese semiconductor chip makers' competitiveness in the global market. Another thing [is] that [it] forced open [the] Japanese semiconductor market to foreign players, and this creates opportunity for the U.S., South Korea and Taiwan. And Japanese companies are trying to both develop their own capacity but also attract phone companies to establish fabs there. So by collaborating with international companies, Japanese companies can leverage their existing technology and manufacturing techniques to expand their global share as well.
