New York CNN —ESPN is sticking by its reporting that the NFL had initially planned to resume Monday’s football game after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest and collapsed on the field – a claim the NFL vehemently denies. The NFL postponed Monday’s game between the Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals following the on-field injury. But whether the NFL had at any point after Hamlin’s devastating injury planned to resume the game remains a subject of dispute and controversy. “There was constant communication in real time between ESPN and league and game officials,” the network said in a statement. All night long, we refrained from speculation.”Joe Buck, ESPN’s Monday Night Football announcer, told the New York Times in an interview Tuesday that he received reporting from John Parry, ESPN’s officiating analyst.

The Financial Times reported that PSG’s Qatari owners wanted to offload 15% of the French champions. Recent deals valued the National Football League’s Denver Broncos and basketball’s Utah Jazz at over 9 times revenue, according to Forbes. Possible Man United, Liverpool and PSG owners might hope that the teams will eventually reach such valuation heights. Fenway Sports Group would consider new shareholders for Liverpool, having frequently received expressions of interest from third parties, the English Premier League club’s owners said on Nov. 7. The Financial Times reported on Nov. 28 that Paris Saint-Germain’s Qatari owners were considering selling 15% of the club.
Wages have been going up this year, but so have prices — and prices are growing faster. Skyrocketing inflation has meant that a pay raise of 7.1% or below is essentially a pay cut. It's the time of year when annual raises come in, but if you didn't see a pay hike of at least 7.1%, you're effectively making less. But many workers haven't seen their real wages outpace inflation since 2021, even as they have more bargaining power than they've seen in decades. "If there are 100 chairs and 50 workers, workers are cool, man!"

Using mindfulness and noticing when your team is stuck can help activate expansive thinking. Expansive thinking encourages us to be more creativePolarity-driven thinking keeps us stuck. A plea bargain may be out of reach for Sam Bankman-Fried, according to a former federal prosecutor. The buck presumably stopped with him. But it's unclear if Bankman-Fried can point the finger at others. He could still offer a quick guilty plea, similar to what Bernie Madoff did in 2009 after his Ponzi scheme was exposed. But Madoff got a substantial sentence anyway, McGinley noted, so "the options here are very limited" for Bankman-Fried.
I can often get Disney gift cards at a discountBuying gift cards at a discount means paying less for the gift card than the face value of the card. If you pay any amount less than $50 for a $50 gift card, then that's a discounted gift card. If I buy a $100 Disney gift card at Target each month, I'll have $1,200 after a year. However, if a customer does not have a Cash App Card, they can instead convert their gift card to cash in the app. While Costco doesn't sell Disney gift cards, they sometimes have Landry's gift cards, which can be used at the Rainforest Café and T-Rex Café at Disney World.
Third-quarter earnings season is finally behind us — and like the prior quarter, results were solid overall compared to analyst forecasts. Danaher (DHR) reported sales and earnings beats on the back of better-than-expected results in all three segments of the health technology company. While U.S. customer traffic was down in the quarter, management noted that it improved sequentially and improved throughout the quarter. Still the luxury hotel and casino company reported solid third-quarter results boosted by its U.S. properties. Amazon (AMZN) reported results that were disappointing, to say the least, and compounded by guidance that was even worse.
If you invested in tech stocks in 2022, chances are you're sitting on a loss right now. As they head into 2023, investors could be forgiven for thinking that the worst of the tech rout is over. Big Tech is 'not dead' Michael Yoshikami, founder and CEO of Destination Wealth Management, said Big Tech is "not dead," though it will take time to recover. Goldman Sachs and Citi also see pockets of opportunities within Big Tech, with both naming Amazon and Meta Platforms as their top picks for 2023. The sector has traditionally been viewed as a growth sector, but some analysts say tech stocks are now value stocks instead.

HollywoodIf you’re under 50, you may not recognize the name Pat Boone . Consider this: For most of the latter half of the 20th century, there wasn’t a person in America who didn’t know who Mr. Boone was and what he stood for. He was the All-American; the kid in the white buck shoes; the clean-cut alternative to early rock-’n’-rollers like Elvis Presley , Little Richard and Chuck Berry; the star of a dozen Hollywood movies, none of which contained anything resembling profanity, social subversion or a love scene. Life magazine put Mr. Boone on its cover in February 1959, dubbing him “The Million-Dollar Idol of U.S. Teen-Agers.”
Jerry Dischler is steering Google's $209 billion ads business through major challenges. It falls to him to reinvent digital advertising to keep its $209 billion ad business going. At the same time, he has to keep growing Google's ad business amid increasingly dour spend forecasts. He went on to search ads in 2008, and by 2009, he was overseeing Google's team that developed new ad formats. Even when some parts of Google's ad business slows, as YouTube and Google network ads did last quarter, it gains strength in other areas, such as search.
Traditional TV networks got what they wanted out of it, too. Google's YouTube TV bundle includes broadcast stations like CBS, Fox and NBC. Sports, and particularly the NFL, have long been considered the glue holding the traditional TV bundle together. YouTube TV had more than 5.3 million subscribers as of the third quarter, putting it above its competitors like Disney's Hulu Live TV+, Fubo TV and Dish's Sling, according to data from MoffettNathanson. "This is a win for YouTube TV as it serves a larger goal for them getting more subscribers.
"Private sector demands will drive growth in fiscal 2023," the government said in a statement, although warning of downside risks from an overseas economic slowdown, inflation, supply bottlenecks and market fluctuations. The official forecast was much higher than economists' median estimate of a 1.1% expansion in a recent Reuters poll. The government and the BOJ have repeatedly called for higher pay hikes as a key to Japan's post-pandemic economic growth with sustainable price inflation. Meanwhile, it raised its consumer inflation forecast to a 3.0% increase from 2.6% seen in July. Higher wage growth and a sustained solid economic recovery are crucial to how quickly the BOJ can unwind its massive monetary stimulus.

The Dem-controlled House Ways & Means Committee will decide whether to release Trump's tax returns. Democrats have been working since 2015 to gain access to the former president's financial documents. Lawmakers on the committee are set to vote Tuesday whether to publicly release Trump's returns, which he kept confidential during his campaign and presidency in a buck of recent tradition. It was unclear when exactly the returns would be released if the committee decides to make them public. Democrats on the committee have long been working to gain access to the former president's financial documents spanning from 2015 to 2020, while Republicans have framed the Democrats' fight as politically-motivated.
Streaming services are getting expensive. Netflix recently raised prices, as did Disney+. ReelgoodCombined, the nine major streaming services would cost consumers about $95 per month for the all-access, ad-free plans. Apple TV+ recently raised its price, but it's still one of the least-expensive major streaming services, as far as ad-free plans go (along with Discovery+). Disney+ recently raised the price of its ad-free plan after launching an ad-supported membership, making it more expensive than Paramount+ and Peacock, but still less expensive than HBO Max.
Maybe you want to step out of the workforce for a few years to be home with your kids. “For a lot of people [saving to buy] a first house is a catalyst for getting their whole financial life in order. When it comes to car buying, there may be fewer deals out there, but there is still plenty of value to be had. To that end, cost-conscious car shoppers are increasingly seeking out used vehicles in good condition. A certified pre-owned vehicle, usually one coming off a lease, often includes warranty coverage, which greatly reduces the worry that can also come with buying a used car. However, a limited supply of new cars and trucks due to the ongoing chip shortage caused demand for used cars to skyrocket, pushing prices much higher and reducing the value of buying pre-owned. Now, used cars are one of the few categories with prices that are finally lower than they were a year ago, according to the latest inflation reading.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday offered investors two stocks they should consider adding to their portfolios. Stocks in the materials sector tend to be highly cyclical, meaning they could get hammered if the Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes tip the economy into a recession, he explained. And while it's far from the best-performing sector in the S&P 500, "even the weakest of these groups have some winners that managed to buck the overall trend and it's important to figure out if they can keep doing what they did [this year] in 2023," Cramer said. Here are his thoughts on his two stock picks:Corteva
