BERLIN (AP) — A protest against the far right in the German city of Munich Sunday afternoon ended early due to safety concerns after approximately 100,000 people showed up, police said. The demonstration was one of dozens around the country this weekend that drew hundreds of thousands of people in total. “I lost 14 years of my life for a crime that I didn’t commit,” Steven Ruffin told a Brooklyn judge after sighing with emotion. Ruffin told the detectives they could retrieve the gun from his sister's boyfriend, and they did, prosecutors' report said. Prosecutors didn't release the boyfriend's name Thursday, and the names of lawyers who have represented him weren't immediately available. He told prosecutors during their recent reinvestigation that he had nothing to do with the shooting and didn't give detectives the gun. Asked Thursday about the boyfriend, Ruffin's lawyers noted that the prospect of any prosecution now is uncertain.

The report said the device was initially photographed on the floor in crime scene photos but wasn't officially cataloged until later when it was found in a classroom's trash receptacle. Those officers moved deceased victims out of the classrooms and "inadvertently" moved other items, posing challenges for the investigators charged with documenting and processing the crime scene," the report said. "Some lacked any active shooter training at all; some had inappropriate training; some lacked critical incident response training; and the vast majority had never trained together with different agencies."
