Tickets for the game cost up to 4,880 Hong Kong dollars ($624) each. In its statement, Tatler Asia said it would refund 56 million Hong Kong dollars ($7.2 million) in total, resulting in a loss of 43 million Hong Kong dollars ($5.5 million). Before the refund, its net income stood at 13 million Hong Kong dollars ($1.7 million), the organizer said. In response to the announcement, the Hong Kong government welcomed the arrangement in a statement, calling it as a responsible move. “One theory is that their actions have political motives, as Hong Kong intends to boost economy through the event and external forces deliberately wanted to embarrass Hong Kong through this incident,” it said.

The new “Lisa Frankenstein,” by Zelda Williams in her directorial debut, hits some of the same notes. Kathryn Newton stars as Lisa Swallows and Cole Sprouse as The Creature in LISA FRANKENSTEIN, a Focus Features release. This is where “Poor Things” and “Lisa Frankenstein” diverge. Bella Baxter in “Poor Things” starts out as a clumsy innocent, but she becomes more knowledgeable and self-confident over time. “Lisa Frankenstein” shows why that’s a loss for all of us — and Lisa is ready to cut up the patriarchy to prove it.

Kennedy has stated that his goal is to appear on the ballot in all 50 states and DC,” the DNC wrote. But the complaint argues that coordination is required for the ballot access efforts by American Values and Team Kennedy, and thereby the group’s support runs afoul of campaign finance laws. Kennedy campaign manager Amaryllis Fox Kennedy denied coordinating with the outside group in a statement to CNN. In the complaint, the DNC alleges the PAC “must coordinate” with the Kennedy campaign to successfully operate its supplemental signature gathering operation. The S & P 500 broke past 5,000 for the first time ever this week, but investors will see if the momentum can stick in the week ahead with more inflation data and earnings results on deck. On Friday, both the S & P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite were headed for their fifth straight week of gains, and their 14th winning week in 15. FactSet data shows S & P 500 earnings are tracking to have risen 2.8% in the fourth quarter, which would be a second straight quarter of earnings growth, and some expect that positive momentum will remain intact in the weeks ahead. A cooler-than-expected print has the potential to be greeted with enthusiasm, sending the S & P 500 even higher. The S & P 500 is up by 5% this year, with Nvidia higher by more than 40%.

Despite the broad index continuing to move higher, the share of S & P 500 stocks above their 50-day moving average has fallen below 60%. That's a less-than-ideal sign, given the historical correlation between the percentage of stocks above the moving average and the S & P 500's performance one year later. The 50-day moving average finds the mean of the 50 most recent closing prices of a stock at any given point. Bespoke analyzed future returns for the S & P 500 every time it traded within 1% of a 52-week high going back to 1990. The S & P gains just around 6% on average, and is positive less than 65% of the time.

The same is true for the argument that the S&P 500 is already on the doorstep of even the most ambitious year-end price targets. BMO Capital Markets"The S&P 500 almost always experiences a technical correction at some point during the second year of bull markets historically," Belski wrote. Even if there's a typical 10% correction exacerbated by weakness in mega caps, Belski wrote that stocks can remain resilient. "Underlying leadership patterns are likely to be very different this year, with significantly more participation coming from non-mega-cap stocks," Belski wrote. This chart shows the percent of S & P 500 members above their 200-day moving average (second panel) as well as the percent of S & P 500 members above their 50-day moving average (bottom panel). Lack of breadth support So as the S & P 500 tests 5000 this week, how confident should we be about further upside for stocks? This would indicate that about 40% of the S & P 500 members had broken below their own 50-day moving average, in other words, a serious lack of breadth support. In each of these three instances, the S & P 500 moved even lower before eventually finding its footing and bouncing back higher. One key difference this time around is that the S & P 500 itself is moving higher.

Islamabad, Pakistan CNN —Millions in Pakistan will head to the polls on Thursday for a general election in which old dynasties are vying for power while the country’s widely popular former leader languishes behind bars unable to stand and militants ramp up deadly attacks. Mobile internet has been suspended in various districts of the province, leading to concerns of a nationwide blackout. A street is festooned with posters of Pakistan's former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Lahore on February 4, 2024. Sharif remains widely popular in Pakistan’s Punjab province – the country’s most populous and a key electoral battleground – where his Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) party has been lauded for advancing mega infrastructural projects. Standing against him is Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the 35-year-old son of slain former leader Benazir Bhutto, seeking to reestablish his Pakistan People’s Party as a major political force.

Argentina's President Javier Milei accused governors of seeking "to destroy" his sweeping economic reform bill, shortly after his ruling party abruptly withdrew the package from the floor of the country's lower house. The so-called "omnibus" bill, which had received support in general terms from opposition lawmakers last week, was rejected on Tuesday during an article-by-article approval process. The package of measures is a core tenet of Milei's push to reform Latin America's third-largest economy. Among other issues, the bill seeks to privatize state entities, increase penalties for social protests and scale back some environmental protections. Milei's Libertad Avanza party has pledged to send the bill back to committees to be debated when governors "understand that it is the people who need it, not the government."

That sets the stage for a difficult road to recovery for whoever wins in a nation where no democratically elected prime minister has ever completed a full term in office. Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan attends a lawyers' convention in Lahore on September 21, 2022. Veteran Sharif will face a strong challenge, however, from first-time candidate for Prime Minister, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, 35, son of slain former leader Benazir Bhutto. Manahil Ahmed, 23, called Pakistan’s political environment “particularly hostile” right now. For Pakistan’s military and police forces, the last year was the bloodiest in a decade.

Strong earnings, or rate cuts? Instead of worrying about weak earnings growth and persistently high interest rates, investors are now counting on the opposite. Markets should cut their expectations by half and prepare for mid-single-digit profit growth and three to four rate cuts, Doll said. At that point, a flurry of rate cuts from the Fed wouldn't be enough to save stocks, the Crossmark CIO said. However, there are two mega-cap growth stocks that Doll is enamored with: Meta Platforms ( META ) and Microsoft ( MSFT ).

Nothing about Las Vegas is measured in moderation. The fluorescent buildings are towering and intentionally bright. Around casino floors, at pool parties and on the Vegas Strip, throngs of tourists daily play chicken with their alcohol tolerance levels and credit card limits. With the Super Bowl, the country’s biggest annual sporting event, happening in the desert city on Sunday, the crowds (an estimated 450,000 visitors) and parties are expected to get even bigger and livelier. But it’s not just the hotels and casinos that’ll be bustling in the days leading up to the big game, between the San Francisco 49ers and the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs: Around 1,000 private planes are expected at Las Vegas area airports.

Inflation was certainly severe and very troubling for markets, but ultimately its sources were transitory, Wieting said. As other energy-based companies and commodities grapple with a transition to clean energy, copper is expected to reap the benefits. The transition to clean energy and the move toward electric vehicles means demand for copper will triple by 2030, according to Citi Global Wealth's 2024 outlook. He believes the Magnificent Seven will be a strong part of the economy going into 2024 once again. Therefore, investors should look for opportunities in mid-cap growth or those within the S&P 400, the benchmark for the US mid-cap stocks.
