Putin accepted the invitation, state news agency KCNA said, without mentioning when a visit might take place. "At the end of the reception, Kim Jong Un courteously invited Putin to visit the DPRK at a convenient time," KCNA said, referring to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, North Korea's formal name. On Wednesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had said there was no plan for Putin to visit Pyongyang. The U.S. State Department said the Biden administration "won't hesitate" to impose additional sanctions on Russia and North Korea if they conclude any new arms deals. On Wednesday, Putin gave numerous hints that military cooperation was discussed but disclosed few details.

Hate speech continues to flourish on the messaging service formerly known as Twitter, according to the Center for Countering Digital Hate. The CCDH said Wednesday that X fails to remove posts that contain hate speech despite being notified that the content violates the company's current hateful conduct guidelines. About 140 of those 300 posts contained antisemitic content, including images of Nazi swastikas, messages supporting Holocaust denial and notes promoting conspiracy theories related to Jews. The CCDH said it reported the posts to X via the company's user-reporting tools on Aug. 30 and 31. Major companies like Apple and Disney ran online ads on X that appeared next to the hateful content, the CCDH report said.

One popular explanation, inflation, has fallen in recent months. But if inflation is the winning explanation, why do Americans still hate the economy? In May, year-over-year wage growth outpaced inflation for the first time in two years, and it continues to do so. Inflation, however, or specifically the gap between inflation and wage growth, is far from the only explanation that has been proposed for Americans' apparent pessimism about the economy. "If a recession were to begin at some point next year, joblessness would likely rise, weighing on inflation but wage growth as well."

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to his country during their talks in Russia on Wednesday, Pyongyang's state media KCNA reported on Thursday, adding Putin accepted the invitation. Kim told Putin the meeting in the Russian capital brought bilateral ties to a new level, and expressed his willingness to foster stable, future-oriented relations for the next 100 years, KCNA said. U.S. and South Korean officials have expressed concern that Kim could provide weapons and ammunition to Russia, which has expended vast stocks in more than 18 months of war in Ukraine. So far this year, 8.5% of animals that enter the shelter system have been euthanized. But Scout's happy ending is out of reach for too many shelter animals, as national euthanasia rates for shelter pets have climbed to a three-year high, according to Shelter Animals Count. While the percentages may seem small, with an estimated 6.3 million animals moving through the shelter system each year, they add up. SAC is working on a more scientific approach to tracking euthanasia rates to help clarify the large range, Filer said. Paqui, a company under Hershey, pulled its One Chip Challenge following a teen's death. One Chip Challenge packaging warned children not to eat, but is spicy food really that dangerous? Paqui's One Chip Challenge tortilla chips are almost black in color and comes in a lime green wrapper. The container warns consumers to not give the chip to children, but due to One Chip Challenge's popularity, many teens ate the chips anyway, leading to hospitalizations in some cases.

Mara Manus, a former executive director for the New York State Council on the Arts, will become the chief executive officer at Pioneer Works, the nonprofit cultural center in Brooklyn, its board of directors announced on Tuesday. Manus, who will start in October, replaces the executive director Maxine Dalio, who left at the end of last year, and the interim chief Jill Eisenhard. She will work closely with the artist Dustin Yellin, the founder of Pioneer Works; Gabriel Florenz, its founding artistic director; and the astrophysicist Dr. Janna Levin, the chief science officer. The appointment marks a pivotal moment for Pioneer Works, which is housed in a former iron works factory in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn. Lately its ambition has grown; in a major capital project, it now plans to open a publicly accessible roof deck observatory — a rarity in New York City.

CNN —Officers from London’s Metropolitan Police have found and arrested Daniel Khalife, the force announced Saturday, marking the end of a three-day manhunt for the terror suspect who escaped from prison on Wednesday. “Metropolitan Police officers have arrested Daniel Khalife, who escaped from HMP Wandsworth on Wednesday 6 September,” the police statement said. The 21-year-old terror suspect’s escape from Wandsworth Prison on Wednesday sparked a sprawling search that delayed flights and led to heightened checks at British ports. Khalife escaped the prison by strapping himself to the underside of a delivery van while dressed as a chef. By the time police tracked down the truck, two miles east of the prison, Khalife was gone and all that remained of his escape was the strapping officers discovered under the van.

Michelle Lujan Grisham's emergency order suspending the right to carry firearms in public in and around Albuquerque drew an immediate court challenge from a gun-rights group Saturday, as legal scholars and advocates said they expected. The governor, a Democrat, said the 30-day suspension, enacted as an emergency public health measure, would apply in most public places, from city sidewalks to parks. The top Republican in the New Mexico Senate, Greg Baca of Belen, also denounced Lujan Grisham’s order as an infringement on the gun rights of law-abiding citizens. Indian artist Jagjot Singh Rubal gives final touches to an oil painting of U.S. President Joe Biden, at his workshop in Amritsar on September 5, 2023, ahead of the two-day G20 summit in New Delhi. The pair's absence has sparked fears that a communique binding member states may not be issued at the end of a G20 leaders' summit — undercutting India's clout and diminishing his domestic messaging. At a pre-summit press conference Friday, India's G20 sherpa Amitabh Kant said the final declaration "is almost ready." In their joint statement after their Friday bilateral meeting, Biden and Modi "reaffirmed their commitment to the G20." Roblox, the popular kids gaming platform, is looking to bolster revenue by giving a wider swath of users the ability to create and sell more types of digital goods. The company said on Friday that subscribers to the Roblox app's upper-tier premium plans, which give users a monthly allowance of the Robux digital currency, will be able to hawk their 3D goods to other users. Previously, Roblox gamers could only create and sell 2D goods like virtual clothing and were required to apply and win approval to be part of the company's user-generated content (UGC) program in order to do the same with 3D assets. When customers use the currency to buy virtual items within games, Roblox shares 30% of the revenue with the game developer. By allowing Roblox users to create and sell 3D goods, the company could gain more paid subscribers who are willing to spend money for that feature.
