The bomb that went to Washington, D.C., was mailed to the Bond Building, whose office tenants include the Department of Justice. "Protecting our personnel and facilities is a fundamental role of our office and of our law enforcement partners," said U.S. Attorney Jill Steinberg, whose office is prosecuting Cassady. Barry Paschal, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office, declined to comment when asked to explain the more than four-year lag between Cassady allegedly mailing the bombs, and being charged in the case. Paschal said he could not comment on details of the case beyond those contained in the indictment.

Anti-abortion activists like to bring up the Comstock Act because one of its clauses prohibits sending through the mail “every article, instrument, substance, drug, medicine or thing” that could possibly lead to an abortion. That could effectively make abortion impossible to access even in places like Minnesota, which has affirmatively protected a woman’s right to choose by passing reproductive freedom laws. In response, I’m prepared to fight back — including by introducing legislation to take away the Comstock Act as a tool to limit reproductive freedom. The Comstock Act hasn’t been broadly enforced since the 1930s.

A Florida venture capitalist and his brother moved Monday toward potential guilty pleas in an insider trading case connected to the merger that took Donald Trump's social media company public last week. A new court filing Monday revealed that a change of plea hearing for the brothers will be held Wednesday afternoon in U.S. District Court in Manhattan. Trump Media and Technology Group mentioned the case in a securities filing on Monday. As of late Monday, there was no change of plea hearing for him scheduled on the docket. They are accused of buying up DWAC stock based on nonpublic information that the shell company was considering a possible merger with Trump's social media company, Trump Media and Technology Group, which owns the Truth Social app.

CNN —A federal judge on Monday is scheduled to sentence Alex Murdaugh – the 55-year-old former attorney already serving two life sentences for the murders of his wife and son – for nearly two dozen financial crimes following his guilty plea last year, according to the US Department of Justice. Murdaugh denies the claim, and his attorneys asked the judge to disregard the government’s motion during sentencing Monday. In a filing last week, prosecutors recommended Murdaugh be sentenced to between 17.5 and almost 22 years in prison. While Murdaugh insists he is innocent of the murders, he has admitted to the financial crimes, saying he was maintaining a yearslong opioid addiction. In exchange for his guilty plea, federal prosecutors agreed to recommend Murdaugh’s sentence be served concurrently with the one imposed in South Carolina, court filings show.

More than 32,000 Palestinians have been killed, and the international community has reverted to a deeply familiar call for a two-state solution, where Palestinians and Israelis can coexist in peace and security. President Biden even declared “the only real solution is a two-state solution” in his State of the Union address last month. The language that surrounds a two-state solution has lost all meaning. And fundamentally, the concept of the two-state solution has evolved to become a central pillar of sustaining Palestinian subjugation and Israeli impunity. Palestine was largely absent from the international agenda until Israeli Jews were killed on Oct. 7.
