Before his stint as prime minister, the younger Sharif was known more as a good administrator than a politician, having served as chief minister thrice in the country's largest province, Punjab. The deal was signed after Sharif personally called on IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva last June. Although defence and key foreign policy decisions are largely influenced by the military, Sharif will have to juggle relations with the U.S. and China, both major allies. He started his political career as the chief minister of Punjab in 1997 with a signature "can-do" administrative style. As chief minister, the younger Sharif planned and executed a number of ambitious infrastructure mega-projects, including Pakistan's first modern mass transport system in Lahore.

Daniel Sundheim's D1 Capital made a handful of notable changes to its technology holdings in the fourth quarter, including closing out a position in a key artificial intelligence play. Sundheim also zeroed out his stake in software stock Salesforce , while trimming Microsoft and Facebook parent Meta by more than 60% and 20%, respectively. The role of large-cap tech stocks in driving up the market was so apparent that a group was dubbed the "Magnificent 7" for its outsized gains. Outside of big tech, Sundheim added to Mastercard and Philip Morris stakes. On the flip side, he dissolved stakes in a number of well-known stocks including Hilton , Las Vegas Sands , Liberty Media and Yum Brands .

As sweeping rounds of layoffs rock the tech, media and finance industries in 2024, some video game fans are thinking about former Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata. Iwata ran the Kyoto, Japan-based video game company from 2002 until his death in 2015. To avoid layoffs, Iwata took a 50% pay cut to help pay for employee salaries, saying a fully-staffed Nintendo would have a better chance of rebounding. Because of this, CNBC Pro screened for low-volatility, fortress-like names that can perform well if the drawdown continues. Royal Caribbean is preparing for the July debut of its next mega-ship, Utopia of the Seas. Utopia will enter service six months after the debut of its wildly popular predecessor, Icon of the Seas. But behind the scenes, the cruise line is already prepping to debut its next giant vessel: 1,188-foot-long Utopia of the Seas. In July — only six months after Icon's debut — the upcoming mega-ship will join its fleet with a series of three- to four-night cruises from Florida's Port Canaveral, Royal Caribbean says. Jazwares is seeking unspecified damages and for Build-A-Bear to stop selling Skoosherz products. It wants a declaratory judgement saying that the Squishmallow maker’s claimed trade dress rights are invalid and unenforceable. “If each aspect of the claimed trade dress were in fact protected trade dress, it would be virtually impossible for competitors to create alternative designs," Build-A-Bear added. Taylor Swift has arrived at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs and beau Travis Kelce in tonight's Super Bowl. The NFL and CBS, which is airing tonight's game, shared video of the music mega-star arriving and chatting with rapper Ice Spice and actor Blake Lively. Swift fans were concerned if the multi-Grammy award winning artist would make it to the big game given her tight touring schedule. Swift played the Tokyo Dome in the Japanese capital from February 7 to 10, leaving her little time — given the long-haul flight and large time difference — to get back for the Super Bowl at Allegiant Stadium. The Japanese Embassy put out a statement last week to ease the concerns of fans.

Palo Alto Networks , Eli Lilly , and Eaton rallied hard over the past 12 months — up 127%, 117% and 66%, respectively. This $315 level is also close to the 50-day simple moving average (red line).
