Cubs aim to shake off stunning loss to Braves

The Cubs squandered a six-run lead and lost 7-6 when right fielder Seiya Suzuki whiffed on a fly ball in the eighth inning. He hit a two-run triple in the loss and is hitting .364 (51-for-140) over his past 37 games. Taillon has not faced the Braves this season. Atlanta is six homers short of tying the major league record set by the 2019 Minnesota Twins. That leaves him one short of matching the modern-era franchise record (since 1900) set by Eddie Mathews in 1953.

CNBC's Jim Cramer said he sees reason for optimism after the S&P 500 on Wednesday was able to bounce off its lows and finish the session basically flat. That market saw what Cramer called an "intraday bounce," where the major indexes started the day worse off and then came back, cutting their losses. "Did today's intraday bounce mean a lot?" And that, alone, means there could be a rally, at least as long as nothing whatsoever happens to the bond market or oil tomorrow." "You can't afford to ignore history.

Several technical signals suggest that the stock market is nearing oversold territory, but that doesn't mean Wall Street is poised for a true rebound, according to Canaccord Genuity strategist Tony Dwyer. The Nasdaq Composite , S & P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average all closed below their 50-day moving average Tuesday. Within the S & P 500, more than 85% of stocks are below their own 50-day moving average, Dwyer said in a note to clients Wednesday. But those technical signals aren't enough to confidently buy the dip, Dwyer said. The recent rise in bond yields will put a cap on any short-term rebound, according to the strategist.

REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Sept 27 (Reuters) - Candy Crush Saga, the matching game played by millions on their commute, has reached $20 billion in revenue since its 2012 launch, maker King said, adding that it would soon release levels up to 15,000 for the most dedicated players. King President Tjodolf Sommestad said Candy Crush Saga and its other titles like Farm Heroes Saga showed that mobile games could have enduring appeal. Todd Green, Candy Crush general manager, said the game was constantly updated to make it more satisfying, from optimising the tiny bounce when candies land in the grid to adding new levels, including the 15,000 milestone. Bitcoin miners are barreling toward the "halving" — a major market-making event that some fear will be a death knell to many in the industry. "We're taking a long-term bet on bitcoin and on the fact that bitcoin mining will survive and will bounce back even stronger." Texas has grown to dominate bitcoin mining partly because of support from local authorities and the operator of the Texas energy grid, ERCOT. Even during the bear market, Texas miners are building out, buying new sites and fresh fleets of hardware. The mining company was spun off from Chinese bitcoin mining giant Bitmain and went public via SPAC earlier this year.

(Reuters) - The U.S. grid-scale energy storage installations hit a new record in the second quarter of 2023, a report by Wood Mackenzie and the American Clean Power Association (ACP) said. Grid-scale energy storage is essential in helping balance and regulate energy supply in a grid that is increasingly reliant on intermittent wind and solar power. Across all segments of the industry, the U.S. energy storage market added 5,597 megawatt hours (MWh) in the second quarter this year, a new quarterly record. "We saw a huge bounce back in Q2 after consecutive quarterly declines in the market," said Vanessa Witte, senior analyst with Wood Mackenzie’s energy storage team. Meanwhile, community, commercial, and industrial (CCI) installations were at 107 MWh in the second quarter, according to the report.

Generative AI advancements can help Microsoft bounce back from its recent losses, according to Guggenheim. Analyst John DiFucci upgraded the stock to neutral from sell, saying the "potential monetary benefit from Generative AI is too strong a force to contend with" despite the company's recent underperformance. The analyst removed his price target on the stock as he believes the stock is trading around a fair valuation. Prior to the upgrade, DiFucci was the last analyst with a sell rating on Microsoft, according to FactSet. Guggenheim expects Office to continue to benefit from these factors, even aside Generative AI, he said.

Kane's three goals put him above club great Gerd Mueller, Miroslav Klose and Mario Mandzukic who all scored five times in their first five games. Earlier, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting had tapped in for a fourth-minute lead from a perfectly-timed Kingsley Coman assist. In fact, the S & P 500's now-6% decline from its cycle peak began almost too perfectly, exactly as the often-tough month of August got underway, continuing into September, the worst month for stock performance through history. Similar reassuring stats are spit out when accounting for years when the S & P 500 was up more than 10% through July, or for pre-election years. The S & P 500 was oversold by some short-term measures, such as fewer than 15% of S & P 500 stocks sitting above their 10-day average price. That makes sense for sure, though it has meant that the equal-weighted S & P 500 is up only 1% this year and has tentatively broken a multiyear uptrend, while small-cap stocks are suffering worse still. And even for the market-cap-weighted S & P 500, the forward P/E is down from nearly 20 to 18 since late July, as prices have fallen, and analysts' forecasts have continued to plod higher.
