BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Logan Eschrich came to Buffalo to witness the snowstorm, and he stayed for the shoveling on Sunday. Once the professional storm chaser saw the Buffalo Bills invite fans to help dig out a snow-filled Highmark Stadium for their delayed playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, now scheduled for Monday, Eschrich couldn’t resist. Stadium crews were unable to keep up with the falling snow, using blowers to uncover the yard lines. Today, it’s a cherished memory for Wood, in part because the win helped the Bills snap a 17-season playoff drought. One thing is certain for Tasker who, like Wood, is part of the Bills' radio broadcast team.

It’s been 40 years since Martin Luther King’s Birthday became a national holiday, and the question of how to celebrate it was probably best answered by the late John Lewis. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s holiday and throughout the year. Written by Alice Faye Duncan and illustrated by R. Gregory Christie, CORETTA’S JOURNEY: The Life and Times of Coretta Scott King (Calkins Creek/Astra, 48 pp., $18.99, ages 7 to 10) provides a stirring introduction to a woman who stood strong before and after her husband’s 1968 assassination. With telling details, Duncan describes the likely sources of Coretta Scott King’s fortitude: her remarkable parents, her religious faith and a willingness to defend herself. Coretta’s mother advised her two daughters to “get an education and try to be somebody,” and the book’s first half shows how Coretta became somebody in Alabama, Ohio and Boston.

He is the author of “The Third Reconstruction: America’s Struggle for Racial Justice in the Twenty-First Century.” The views expressed here are his own. CNN —Had he lived, Martin Luther King Jr. would be 95 years old this year. He turned political debates over racial integration, non-violent civil disobedience and voting rights into a national, then global, referendum on freedom. And, as their forerunners did, they continue to press for voting rights, equal education and environmental justice in communities of color – all a continuation of King’s legacy. The passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act were not pre-ordained - nor were they universally beloved pieces of legislation.

The storm, which smacked the central and eastern US Friday, continued Saturday with heavy rain, snow and dangerous coastal flooding in New England; blizzard conditions in the Midwest; and snow in the Great Lakes, including the Buffalo area. Some areas of the South are still trying to recover from the last storm, which generated 25 tornado reports across Texas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. In the central part of the country, the storm unleashed perilous blizzard conditions, shutting down several highways and stranding drivers in frigid temperatures.
