CNBC Daily Open: Nasdaq record, Tesla future value?
  + stars: | 2024-06-17 | by ( Abid Ali | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +3 min
Alain Jocard | AFP | Getty ImagesThis report is from today's CNBC Daily Open, our international markets newsletter. CNBC Daily Open brings investors up to speed on everything they need to know, no matter where they are. This valuation, however, wouldn't be based on Tesla's success as an electric vehicle manufacturer, but rather as a robotics company. While Musk didn't provide a specific timeframe for this claim, he also suggested Tesla could reach a $5 trillion to $7 trillion valuation as a robotaxi company. In 2020, Tesla's worth even surpassed the combined value of Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, GM, Ford and BMW.

"Consumers need to understand that the cavalry isn't coming anytime soon, so the best thing you can do is take things into your own hands when it comes to lowering credit card interest rates," said Matt Schulz, chief credit analyst at LendingTree. But that hasn't deterred credit card issuers from offering generous terms on balance transfer cards, Rossman said. But right now, it's kind of a Goldilocks environment for credit card issuers." It's also an ideal time for consumers to take advantage of all the options credit card issuers are offering. A balance transfer credit card moves your outstanding debt from one or more credit cards onto a new card, typically with a lower interest rate.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg speaks after a meeting of NATO foreign ministers at the Czernin Palace, in Prague, Czech Republic, May 31, 2024. A record more than 20 NATO member nations are hitting the Western military alliance's defense spending target this year, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Monday, as Russia's war in Ukraine has raised the threat of expanding conflict in Europe. The estimated figure is a nearly fourfold increase from 2021 in the ranks of the 32 NATO members meeting the alliance's defense spending guideline. NATO members agreed last year to spend at least 2% of their gross domestic product on defense. But after Russia seized Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula in 2014, NATO members unanimously agreed to spend at least 2% of their GDP on defense within a decade.

CNBC's Jim Cramer said part-time investors shouldn't make themselves crazy aiming for perfection. "You don't need to be perfect at managing your money, you just need to be good enough, and that means you shouldn't waste your time trying to anticipate every little gyration in the market," he said. To Cramer, short-term trading isn't the best way for most at-home investors to make money. He suggested that investors continue to carefully research every stock in their portfolio so they know exactly what they own. But Cramer stressed that investors should never discount the power of an index fund, as it's a relatively easy way to make money.

CNBC's Jim Cramer warned investors about taking every individual stock move to heart. He said these sudden moves are often arbitrary, and suggested investors focus on a company's underlying business. "Sometimes you can extrapolate a great deal from a big move in an individual stock, but more often it's telling you something you already know or it's just noise that means nothing." While it's difficult to decipher this "noise," Cramer conceded that irregular moves can be valid signals. Other times, the action in the stock is noise, not a signal, and you'll end up feeling very foolish if you take your cue from that kind of action."

Some young investors are using astrology and tarot cards to guide day trading decisions. They believe stock market behavior aligns with cyclical patterns of planets and the moon. Gen Z sees astrology as a form of inner clarity, akin to religion, amid shifting identities. The idea is that everything — from the whims of the stock market to the rotation of the planets — is cyclical.
