On top of that, there were signs that activity at dominant U.S. service sector firms picked up steam again last month too. Friday's release of the Labor Department's monthly national payrolls report will seal the picture. U.S. Treasury yields hit 16-year highs above 5%, German equivalents hit their highest in 15 years and British gilt yields scaled 2008 peaks. The VIX (.VIX) gauge of implied Wall St volatility - which had been peculiarly subdued right through last month - jumped to its highest since June 1. Crucially, 2-year Treasury yields edged back below 5%.

New York CNN —A prominent vaccine scientist said he was accosted outside of his home after a Twitter exchange with podcaster Joe Rogan, who challenged him to debate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. over the weekend. “I just was stalked in front of my home by a couple of antivaxers taunting me to debate RFKJr.,” Houston-based scientist Peter Hotez tweeted Sunday. The confrontation came after Hotez tweeted Saturday in support of a Vice article that criticized Spotify’s handling of vaccine misinformation on Rogan’s show. Investor Mark Cuban defended Hotez, jumping in the Twitter debate. “Trying to bully Dr Hotez is ridiculous,” Cuban tweeted, accusing Musk and Rogan of acting in their own self interest.

It was Christmas in May in the back room of a Michigan Dollar General last year. The clutter is one of the reasons that the Department of Labor labeled Dollar General a "severe violator" in March. Ms. Holmes said she believed that making herself the poster girl for women in tech put a huge target on her back. “I’m still thinking about the journalists being intimidated,” Ms. Holmes said after we’d moved on to several other topics. This kind of misguided talk is the one consistent thread in my reporting on who Ms. Holmes really is. In the waning days of Theranos, Ms. Holmes got a dog, a Siberian husky named Balto. It’s the same way Ms. Holmes kept hanging on at Theranos.
New York CNN —Anheuser-Busch will report earnings Thursday, marking the first time it will face Wall Street analysts’ questions since its Bud Light brand erupted in controversy. Sales of Bud Light have tumbled over the past month after the company delivered a custom can to Dylan Mulvaney, a transgender woman with a large Instagram following. The video went viral, with some supporting Mulvaney and the company, and others responding with anti-trans reactions and calls for a Bud Light boycott. The week prior, Bud Light revenue was down 17%, even as sales of rivals Miller Lite and Coors Light increased. Bud Light sales have been declining for years, but this situation has “snowballed” and made its troubles even more pronounced, Roth said.

The marketing executive who oversaw a partnership between Bud Light and a transgender influencer is taking a leave of absence after it snowballed into cries for boycotts from some angry customers, according to media reports. Alissa Heinerscheid, Bud Light's vice president of marketing, will be replaced by Todd Allen, most recently global vice president of Budweiser, according to reports from Beer Business Daily and Ad Age. Earlier this month, Bud Light said, "Anheuser-Busch works with hundreds of influencers across our brands as one of many ways to authentically connect with audiences across various demographics." Musician Kid Rock posted a video of himself shooting cans of Bud Light with a rifle. Anheuser-Busch InBev's stock that trades in the United States is down 1.8% since Mulvaney's April 1 video showing herself taking a sip of Bud Light.

REUTERS/Aly SongSHANGHAI, April 20 (Reuters) - Chinese internet users berated German automaker BMW (BMWG.DE) on Thursday, accusing it of discrimination at the Shanghai auto show amid claims workers at its Mini booth favoured foreign over domestic visitors during an ice cream giveaway promotion. The controversy comes as BMW and fellow German automakers participate in the Shanghai auto show in full force as they fight to stay on top of consumer trends in a country where domestic rivals have been aggressively taking market share. One video showed two Chinese workers telling some local visitors to the Mini stand that the free ice cream had run out, only to offer a tub moments later to a Western attendee. "This has taken away my good feelings towards BMW," said one Weibo commentator.

A team of ProPublica reporters earlier this year began looking into the travel of various Supreme Court justices, not entirely sure what they would find, if anything. But their editors encouraged the team to keep working the story, Justin Elliott, a member of the reporting team, told me by phone on Thursday. “The progress was gratifyingly steady,” Elliot told me, cautioning, however, that “it was not easy.”Easy or not, the final product that published on Thursday morning was unquestionably worth the effort. “These trips appeared nowhere on Thomas’ financial disclosures,” the ProPublica team wrote. “From my perspective as a reporter,” Elliott told me, “I feel so lucky to have the reporting resources and time resources to do a heavy lift like this.
ORLANDO, Florida, March 22 (Reuters) - First the record wager on higher U.S. interest rates, now the record wipe out. Last year it breached liquidity requirements at some of its entities after an unsubstantiated social media report sparked client exits. In the U.S., the decision to insure all bank deposits after SVB was shuttered surprised many. QUICKLY DISAPPEARSome in the banking industry play down the risks of another SVB-style downfall spurred by social media. Regulators will also need to monitor social media and develop a set of protocols to guide how they respond, according to Patricia McCoy, a law professor at Boston College. "They need to be looking for any signs of unsubstantiated rumors, panic starting to mount on social media, and they've got to do it around the clock," she said.
The implosion of SVB makes for scary headlines, but it could actually be great for the stock market. That's because the Federal Reserve may be forced to slow the pace of rate hikes it's been enacting since March 2022. A number of Wall Street firms have already forecasted a pause in rate hikes, Goldman Sachs chief among them. A reversal in a key market dynamicFast-rising interest rates throughout 2022 dinged company valuations and sent the broader stock market into a bear market. Some have pointed to the 1994 bankruptcy of Orange County as an event with parallels to today's interest rate environment.

Since the International Olympic Committee (IOC) opened the door for Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete as neutrals at the 2024 Paris Games, calls to have them excluded have snowballed. At an indoor track in northeastern Moscow on Friday, hurdler Sergey Shubenkov said he was avoiding reading the news about Russia's Olympic prospects. The measure was taken as part of wider sanctions against the Russian athletics federation, which has been suspended since 2015 over doping offences. "I think those who don't support (Russia's special military operation in Ukraine) have already left.

GEORGE BOUBOURAS, HEAD OF RESEARCH AT K2 ASSET MANAGEMENT, MELBOURNE (UNDERWEIGHT ON INDIA)"The Adani effect works both ways given the market cap relative to index. "To attract more capital the Indian economy needs more FTAs (free-trade agreements) and more financial market reform - a long process." Given there has not been any significant change for now for the market valuation, the market remains overall expensive in our view." Adani is a known levered name in India, so I would think most participants should not associate the same issues for other Indian assets."

She had no experience, so when a music video producer role came up, she faked her résumé. When I was 29, I got a job producing a music video for a country music star, based on a résumé I sent in that showed I was tailor-made for this job. I brought a proposed budget for the music video that I had almost completely copied from a budget I found online. Lying on my résumé worked out for me, but I wouldn't do it in 2023Even though my résumé was an exaggeration, I did a great job producing that music video. Having that credit to my name helped me get my next job, producing a pilot for VH1, which snowballed into other opportunities in my career.
Netflix canceled its fantasy drama series "Warrior Nun" in December, and fans are not happy. This snowballed into "#NETFLIX CORRECT YOUR MISTAKE" trending on Twitter. Share Share Article via Facebook Share Article via Twitter Share Article via LinkedIn Share Article via EmailSouthwest's unique routing system compounded and snowballed, says former Continental Airlines CEOGordon Bethune, former Continental Airlines chairman and CEO, joins 'Squawk on the Street' to discuss the Department of Transportation's ability to enforce airlines to reimburse travelers, how quickly Southwest can update the current system, and more.
At a news conference in Houston, Southwest spokesman Jay McVay said cancellations snowballed as storm systems moved across the country, leaving flight crews and planes out of place. In normal times, this can allow Southwest to operate more flights over a given 24-hour period than other carriers, said Scott Meyerowitz, executive editor of The Points Guy travel site. Casey Murray, president of the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association, said Southwest had not adequately prepared flights for the storm, which hampered ground transportation and maintenance vehicles. Adding to the difficulty: Large swaths of Southwest crews remain in contract negotiations with the carrier. Southwest Airlines did not immediately respond to questions about ongoing contract negotiations with its crews.
