WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Friday rejected Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein’s last-ditch request to be included on the ballot in Nevada, a key swing state. The court in a brief unsigned order left in place a decision by the Nevada Supreme Court that blocked Stein from appearing on the ballot over a dispute concerning whether the Green Party had submitted the correct paperwork. Jay Sekulow, an ally of former President Donald Trump, represented the Green Party. In Nevada, which is expected to be closely contested, the Democrats sued to ensure Stein was not on the ballot. The case arose from correspondence between the Nevada Green Party and state officials this year over language to include on its petition seeking signatures to appear on the ballot.

Over the years, Israel has viewed “targeted killings” as a way to deter attacks on the county, fuel fear among its enemies and exact revenge. Iran’s nuclear program is closer to building a bomb than ever, even after several nuclear scientists were killed, he said. But the Mossad operation dismayed Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, who demanded the resignation of the spy service’s chief. Almost four decades later, Israel killed a major Hamas official, Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, in a Dubai hotel in a complex plot involving more than two dozen Mossad operatives. In an echo of this week’s attacks in Lebanon, Israel killed a Hamas bombmaker, Yahya Ayyash, in 1996 with a cellphone outfitted with explosives.

A Republican-controlled chamber could thwart Harris’ nominees to fill out her administration and the courts, along with her legislative agenda. Top Senate Republicans told NBC News she would need their sign-off to secure votes on any judicial nominees, including for the Supreme Court. The prospect of a split Congress looms over a possible Harris win even if Democrats have a strong year and sweep every swing state. And if it’s a GOP-led Senate, Republicans would control a floor vote. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, would have seniority to be the next Judiciary Committee chair and said he intends to claim the position if Republicans win control.

The fight over Wisconsin — considered a must-win for Harris as part of Democrats’ so-called blue wall — could tilt the election. Tim Walz has re-energized staff members in the state, a campaign official told NBC News. With more than 200 staffers statewide, the Harris campaign touts 48 offices across Wisconsin, including some in smaller, more rural areas that Trump won in 2020. But the Trump campaign is mounting its own effort in the state. An RNC official also said the Trump campaign and the Wisconsin GOP have more than 70 staff members and 40 offices across the state.

But that has not stopped Trump from recycling some of the same dark portents about a Kamala Harris presidency. Even God was not safe from a Biden presidency, Trump warned. You’re going to have to learn to speak Chinese,” Trump told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt in August 2020. "She wants no Merry Christmas," Trump said. LINCOLNVILLE, Maine — As Republicans in Nebraska consider changing state law to give Donald Trump an extra Electoral College vote this fall, their Democratic counterparts in Maine have little recourse to even the score. In 2020, Trump won one electoral vote from Maine’s rural 2nd Congressional District and is heavily favored to do so again, while Joe Biden won one from Nebraska’s Omaha-based 2nd Congressional District. And Maine GOP leaders have already signaled they have no interest in helping Democrats do away with their unusual formula for awarding electoral votes. “Maine has the gold standard of presidential election processes in the United States,” state House Minority Leader Billy Bob Faulkingham told the Bangor Daily News on Thursday. But unlike the previous times, there no longer appears to be a good way for Maine — and therefore national Democrats — to counter a change in Nebraska.

A Georgia mother died in 2022 from a treatable infection due to delays to her medical care stemming from the state’s restrictive abortion law, nonprofit news outlet ProPublica reported. According to ProPublica, Miller’s family told a coroner she did not seek care because of laws around pregnancy and abortion. The family shared their story and engaged with the vice president in an emotional moment. The Harris campaign is hoping the political saliency of reproductive rights can help galvanize voters ahead of Election Day. Last week, the Harris campaign launched an abortion-focused ad, capitalizing on what officials said was a pivotal exchange between Harris and Trump.

The Typhon system, which can be equipped with cruise missiles capable of striking Chinese targets, was brought in for joint exercises earlier this year, both countries said at the time, but has remained there. China and Russia have condemned the first deployment of the system to the Indo-Pacific, accusing Washington of fueling an arms race. The deployment, some details of which have not been previously reported, comes as China and U.S. defense treaty ally the Philippines clash over parts of the hotly contested South China Sea. Philippine officials said Filipino and U.S. forces continued to train with the missile system, which is on the northern island of Luzon, facing the South China Sea and is close to the Taiwan Strait. A Philippine army spokesman, Colonel Louie Dema-ala, on Wednesday said training was ongoing and it was up to Philippine authorities and the United States Army Pacific to decide how long the missile system would stay.

We will not take our eye off the ball.”The Trump campaign has so far declined to weigh in specifically on CNN’s reporting about Robinson’s controversial comments. Patrick T. Fallon | AFP | Getty ImagesNew data shows a surge in trade between China and Mexico at a time of tough tariff talk during the presidential campaign. This nearshoring of manufacturing enables companies to change a product's origin of goods, also referred to as the "economic nationality" of a product. Data from freight analytics firm Xeneta shows China to Mexico container trade up by 26.2% from January to July 2024, after growing by 33% in 2023. Mexico is also a member of the Pacific Alliance, a trade bloc formed by Mexico, Chile, Colombia, and Peru. It sounds like the setup to a lightbulb joke: How much does it cost to change a microwave bulb? While my lightbulb situation may be somewhat unique, experts say it is not uncommon to learn the cost of repairs is more than the cost to replace an appliance. Figuring out the cost for a repairMy first call to repair our microwave was to the appliance store where I made the purchase. Several states — including California, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota and New York — have implemented so-called "right to repair" laws.
