Designer Michael Kors poses backstage before the Michael Kors Collection Fall 2017 runway show at Spring Studios in New York City on Feb. 15, 2017. The deal, if approved, would put six fashion brands under a single company: Tapestry's Coach, Kate Spade and Stuart Weitzman, with Capri's Versace, Jimmy Choo and Michael Kors. Shares of Capri, which includes Michael Kors, reflect the tougher stretch that the designer Kors described. Gennette, who retired early this year, said the department store's sales got hit because it leaned too heavily on Michael Kors' brand. He said the markdown of Michael Kors' handbags contributed to "a bad spiral Macy's was living through when I was there."

How pregnancy changes the brain

CNN —Researchers have created one of the first comprehensive maps of how the brain changes throughout pregnancy, substantially improving upon understanding of an understudied field. What brain changes mean for parentsThe functional implications these brain changes may have for birthing parents have yet to be determined, said Dr. Elseline Hoekzema, head of the Pregnancy and the Brain Lab at Amsterdam University Medical Center, via email. However, some of Hoekzema’s previous work has indicated associations between pregnancy-related brain changes and the ways a birthing parent’s brain and body respond and bond to infants’ cues, Hoekzema added. These findings are also in line with animal studies showing brain changes that were critical for the onset and continuation of maternal care. “Of the 50,000 brain imaging articles published in the last 30 years, less than half of 1% focus on health factors unique to women, like pregnancy.

Recounting the same anecdote he’d told Snow, he told Medley he’d once lost a young patient to cervical cancer and needed to do another exam to keep her safe. But again, women like Medley, Snow and Pratt describe feeling belittled or dismissed. After watching a documentary about the gymnasts abused by then-team doctor Larry Nassar, Medley, Pratt and Snow launched a civil suit against Farley. The country’s new reformist President Masoud Pezeshkian campaigned on a promise to halt the harassment of women by morality police. Many said he failed to acknowledge the real reason many grandparents don't help with childcare more: They can't afford to. In an interview with Time magazine to promote her new film “Lee,” which is about model turned renowned war photographer Lee Miller, the Oscar-winning actress shared her thoughts about the true meaning of courage. Winslet said she doesn’t believe the word “brave” should be applied to women in entertainment who are comfortable in their own skin or choose not to wear makeup in public. “Kate is looking behind the scenes, much like Lee Miller looked behind the scenes.”And while Winslet said she’s mostly worked with male filmmakers, she said she doesn’t believe that has affected the work. “I’ve always played women who, hopefully, are real women,” Winslet said.

Online platforms reflect a growing demand for menopause care like hormone-replacement therapy. These studies aim to develop a better understanding of women's menopause symptoms like depression, insomnia, and hot flashes, with the goal of developing more helpful treatments. To further address the need for perimenopause and menopause research and medical care, Congress introduced in May the bipartisan Advancing Menopause Care and Mid-Life Women's Health Act. After roughly a year of treatment for her menopause symptoms, Miller is flourishing. "I'm getting my doctorate in higher educational administration, and I would have never been able to navigate such an enormous responsibility without menopause care," Miller said.

Washington CNN —The Harris campaign is launching a new abortion-focused ad Thursday, capitalizing on what officials believe was one of the most pivotal exchanges between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump during Tuesday’s presidential debate. Harris’ team prepared the vice president to confront Trump on nationwide abortion restrictions. The newly released ad includes both candidates’ responses on abortion on the debate stage. Harris, in response, ran through personal stories of women struggling to get health care while navigating abortion restrictions. Harris campaign officials spent Wednesday poring over footage of the debate to identify key moments to put into new campaign TV and digital ads, according to the campaign, seeking to amplify what they perceive to be the strongest debate exchange.

The Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday that it has begun a research project examining the possible effects of toxic metals in tampons and that it is launching an independent review. A study published in July found a variety of metals, including arsenic, mercury and lead, in more than a dozen brands of tampons. While the study detected metals, it couldn’t conclude whether their existence led to any harm in the women. “Women use about 7,400 tampons over the course of their reproductive years, so the presence of potentially harmful metals and chemicals in these products is incredibly concerning,” caucus members wrote. “These initiatives will enable the FDA to complete a risk assessment of metals contained in tampons, based on a worst-case scenario of metal exposure,” the agency wrote.

Visually impaired transgender sprinter Valentina Petrillo said she felt welcomed by her fellow competitors despite the widespread scrutiny outside of the Paralympic village in France. The 51-year-old sprinter, who transitioned in 2019, reached T12 200m and 400m semi-finals at the recent Paralympic Games in Paris. So all of this fear that trans people will destroy the world (of women’s sport) actually does not exist. Over the last few years, the discourse around transgender athletes has garnered widespread attention. The number of pregnant women forced to travel farther to deliver their babies — or go without prenatal care entirely — is growing. A March of Dimes report published Tuesday found that over a third of U.S. counties (35.1%) are what the group calls “maternity care deserts,” meaning they don't have a single doctor, nurse, midwife or medical center specializing in maternity care. During 2021 and 2022, about 1 in 25 hospital maternity wards closed, the report found. States in which pregnant women had to travel the farthest to seek medical maternity care included Alaska, Hawaii and Montana. The closest place with maternity care was two hours away from her home in Montana.

Harvey Weinstein had heart surgery Monday after he complained of health issues and was moved from a New York City jail to a hospital, a representative for the disgraced movie mogul said. Weinstein, whose 2020 rape conviction was overturned in April, remained in recovery at the intensive care unit at Bellevue Hospital on Monday night, said the representative, Craig Rothfeld. Weinstein was moved from Rikers Island jail to the hospital after complaining that he didn’t feel well and had experienced significant weight gain from medication, Rothfeld said. He underwent pericardiocentesis surgery Monday morning to alleviate a significant amount of fluid from his lungs and heart, Rothfeld said. In July, Weinstein was hospitalized for a “myriad of health conditions” and tested positive for Covid-19 and double pneumonia, his representative said.

Even with all the challenges it brings as a parent, I have zero interest in ever working in an office again. It took my kids a while to understand that "going to work" means leaving the house for most people. One of us often had to work less to make it work, and we've each taken turns. Remote work has proven that office irritations are not a requirement for making a living, and I am happy to give them up. It would be a mistake to destroy all the hard-won progress we've made in making remote work a viable option by enforcing strict RTO policies.

The fervor and passion surrounding women's sports aren't going to go away, said Jessica Berman, commissioner of the National Women's Soccer League. Gotfredson noted that fans of women's sports are "fanning differently" and are more engaged "from a brand partner perspective" than those who follow men's sports and male athletes. "It's still a small percentage of brands spending in women's sports," she said. Both Brink and USC's women's basketball star JuJu Watkins agreed that more women's sports games need to be more accessible for fans, with Brink saying "keep showing it and making it easier to watch." Former President Donald Trump repeated his false claim that children are undergoing transition-related surgery during their school day, worsening fears among some conservatives that educators are pushing children to become transgender and aiding transitions without parental awareness. What the hell is wrong with our country?” Trump said Saturday at a campaign rally in Wisconsin, a vital swing state. About half the states ban transition-related surgery for minors, and even in states where such care is still legal, it is rare. The law limits the instruction of sexual orientation and gender identity in school and has been replicated in states across the country. Half of all teachers polled, including 62% of elementary school teachers, said elementary school students should not learn about gender identity in school.

It was a stunning denouement for the self-proclaimed appointed son of God, a Filipino evangelist preacher who had millions of followers and influence at the highest levels of government but was wanted by Philippine authorities and the FBI on charges of human trafficking and sexual abuse. That changed in March, when a Philippine court ordered the arrest of Quiboloy and several other people on suspicion of child and sexual abuse and human trafficking. After he surrendered, officials said, Quiboloy was flown by military transport to Manila, the capital, and placed in police detention. After he won the presidency in 2022, Marcos set about dismantling Duterte’s power alliances, including the one with Quiboloy. Marcos said that he did not understand Duterte’s apology but that it was “her prerogative” to make it, local media reported.

“The second reason that breast density is important is because having dense breast tissue raises a woman’s level of risk of developing breast cancer,” Feigin said. Breast cancer survivor JoAnn Pushkin, 64, has advocated for more than a decade that there be a national requirement for women to be notified of their breast density. Now I have lymphedema, and all because it was detected at that later stage,” said Pushkin, who has testified before the FDA about breast density and co-created the website DenseBreast-info.org, which features resources on breast density. The new FDA changes require facilities to provide patients with information about their breast density and include specific language in the mammogram result letter to explain how breast density can influence the accuracy of a mammogram. A study published in 2022 found that the breast cancer death rate dropped by 43% within three decades, from 1989 to 2020, translating to 460,000 fewer breast cancer deaths during that time.
