The photograph tells us nothing about whether or how these children are related. Hundreds of Israeli hostages, including children, are believed to be held in Gaza by Hamas, their families desperate for their safe release. It is a rare thing for mainstream news organizations to publish graphic images of dead or wounded children. There is nothing quite so devastating as the image of a child whose life has been snuffed out by senseless violence. And so the slaughter in Maine reminded me of another image from Gaza, one you may have seen on social media.

During a lengthy sit-down interview with CNBC’s Sara Eisen, Yaccarino described the one-time bird platform as if everything were not only swell, but in a better position since Musk’s chaotic takeover and reign. But perhaps an even more preposterous claim from Yaccarino came when Eisen pressed her on brand safety and hate speech appearing on the platform since Musk’s takeover. Yaccarino celebrated Coca-Cola and State Farm marketing their products on Twitter/X, as she underscored the platform’s commitment to brand safety. Under Musk’s watch, the platform has welcomed back white nationalists, conspiracy theorists, anti-vaccine activists, and various other extremists with open arms. Alas, it is no wonder that conspiracy theories and hate speech are flourishing on the platform.

WeWork's rise and fall offers a stark warning for the AI era. Companies racing for glory in the AI era would do well to learn from the over-exuberance in the WeWork saga. Since the launch of ChatGPT last year, private tech investors have abandoned their temporary pullback in startup investment to throw money at almost any company with AI in the name. ChatGPT's creator OpenAI has bagged billions of dollars from Microsoft, while venture capitalists announced $10.7 billion of generative AI startup deals in the first quarter of the year, per data firm Pitchbook. But equally, investors would be wise to learn from WeWork and look under the hood of any AI firm claiming it will fundamentally alter any market.

When news emerged last week that the studios and striking writers were set to meet for the first time since the strike commenced in early May, a ray of hope emerged in Hollywood. The fire and brimstone that has overtaken Hollywood is on the path toward making history in the worst possible way. The current standoff has already surpassed the 2007-08 strike, which clocked in at 93 days, and is marching toward the longest writers’ strike on record: 154 days in 1988. Without production — a major economic engine that extends far beyond Hollywood — countless people who work in support roles are also without income.
