CNN —When Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui heads to the International Space Station (ISS) next year, he will have two new skincare items in his bag that are especially designed for the rigors of space travel. The face wash and lotion are part of a “Cosmology” line unveiled on Monday by Japanese cosmetic company POLA and ANA Holdings, the parent company of All Nippon Airways. The products were created after the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) called for skincare solutions that could be used in the resource-scarce, low-gravity and extremely dry conditions of outer space. The products are not the first cosmetics to head to outer space. Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui will bring the Cosmology skincare products to the International Space Station in 2024.

Maeve Duvally is a former Goldman Sachs executive who came out as transgender in 2019. For most of my career at Goldman Sachs, I commuted from Pound Ridge into the City, got off the train and jogged to work. Rushing toward the exit, I nearly bumped into a Goldman Sachs hospitality person who I didn't really recognize though I probably passed him several times a week. I crept out of the auditorium and willed myself to the last obstacle, the turnstiles, after which I was free of Goldman Sachs and worry. Before going to see “Barbie,” the doll collector Laura Maar had reservations. “By the second time, though, I really did love it,” said Maar, 49, a kindergarten teacher in Southern California. But collectors like Maar were fans of Barbie long before. I spoke with 10 collectors — many of whom showed up for our video interviews wearing hot pink Barbie merch with their dolls proudly on display — to find out: Did the film pass muster with this most demanding group of fans? “I was so pleased there were so many nods to longtime Barbie fans.”

I use Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum and The Good C Serum. She has a personal line of products called Katalaya Skin Care; right now I’m using her Rejuvenating Moisturizer. When I want to make it look like I’ve slept well, I’ll mix my foundation in with my moisturizer for light coverage. I love the Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation because it looks like skin and it doesn’t take much for it to seamlessly blend. I’m somebody who takes excess blush and puts it on my eyes, so right now I’m using Dior Rouge Blush in Grand Bal.

I did the latter and tried hidden city ticketing via Skiplagged. That's when I saw an ad for Skiplagged, which championed its hidden city ticketing hack. In my case, the trip was from Los Angeles to New York City to Buffalo. Neither of those options were how I wanted to spend my first couple of days in New York City. Hidden city ticketing is positioned in the travel community as a "travel hack," but I'll tell anyone who asks that it's rarely worth the hassle.

Don’t cry because “Succession” is over, smile because J. Smith Cameron wore an extravagant set of feather-trimmed pajamas to the finale watch-party. Discovery, parent company of CNN) were mourning the end of “Succession,” Smith Cameron — who plays Waystar general counsel Gerri Kellman — and her stylist Cat Pope gave us something to grin about. The look even received the approval of Sex and the City’s Kim Cattrall, who simply commented: “Perfect.”The Sleeper set worn by J Smith Cameron retails for $390 on the brand's website. Seeing old friends recently I joked, dry-eyed, about the wonder and terror of the first seven days of Jewish mourning — the shiva — being like a sort of cocktail party in hell. The night before, at a lovely restaurant, apropos of nothing at all, I started weeping into my food and ran to escape the table. I could see myself there, some 40 months earlier, talking to her teacher about the strange pain keeping my daughter from class. In the early days, her hurt was so raw we could just barely keep hold of her in its tumult. Hana worried that she was so angry with God that God would be angry with her.
CNN —Two men are battling for control in Sudan, but stuck in the middle are the country’s people. Since the fighting began last Saturday, CNN has been regularly in touch with Iman Abu Garjah, a British-Sudanese doctor who became stuck while visiting family to celebrate Ramadan. I’m just really, really tired. “[On Thursday] we all just felt really tired, we were still fasting in the midst of all of this, and everybody’s sentiment was Ramadan just has to come to an end. “If we focus on the good stuff, we have oil, we have electricity, we have running water because the water tank is working.
Valentine?s day mascara @banksy/via REUTERSMARGATE, England, Feb 14 (Reuters) - British street artist Banksy confirmed a new mural showing a 1950s housewife with a swollen eye apparently pushing a man into an abandoned chest freezer was his work early on Valentine's Day, just hours before the appliance was removed. The artwork, which Banksy titled 'Valentine's day mascara' on his website, appeared in the seaside town of Margate, east England, on Sunday night. Artist Pete Brown was painting the scene when the genuine freezer -- which formed an integral part of the mural -- was removed on Tuesday morning. "The fridge freezer is now in storage and will be returned once it has been made safe to the public," the council said. "I always thought maybe someone might put a mural on the wall, but I was never expecting a Banksy," he said.
U.S. demand boosts L'Oreal fourth-quarter sales, China weighs

L'Oreal posted 8.1% sales growth in the fourth quarter, a touch slower than in the previous three months, with firm demand in the United States and Europe helping to offset the dent from coronavirus disruptions in China. The cosmetics company, which sells Maybelline mascara and CeraVe skincare, recorded sales for the last three month of 2022 of 10.3 billion euros ($11.1 billion), in line with analyst expectations, according to Refinitiv data. The 8.1% growth rate for the three months to end-December compared with a 9.1% increase in sales in the third quarter. Overall revenues were boosted by 9.4% like-for-like growth in the United States and 8.1% growth in Europe, although the company said it saw a "drastic slowdown" in China in the second half of the year. L'Oreal grew faster than the market average across all its regions, Chief Executive Nicolas Hieronimus told CNBC's Charlotte Reed in Paris, with Europe proving a "pleasant surprise."
After years of influencers pushing cosmetics, clothes, personal tech and supplements to the masses, a rising cohort is taking a different tack: telling people what not to buy. They’re calling it “de-influencing.”The term is being popularized in videos by people whose experience runs the gamut: disappointed consumers, savvy beauty bloggers, doctors dispelling skin-care myths and former retail employees dishing on which products they saw returned most often. Their shared guidance is a rejoinder to a seemingly endless stream of recommendations and promotional content on the platform—and a sign of growing backlash to overconsumption. TikTok videos under the hashtag #deinfluencing have surpassed 68 million views.
'MascaraGate' has consumed TikTok, with a beauty guru being accused of false advertising. Mads Lewis, a TikToker with over 12 million followers, argued in a now-deleted video that deception is pervasive across the advertising industry. Lewis said in her original TikTok, apparently in response to criticism of Nogueira helmed by commentary creator Angelika Oles. "I know it's false advertising, but isn't everything false advertising? "Sorry, if somebody put $200,000 in your face and said, 'Hey, promote my shitty mascara,' I don't think you'd think twice about it."
Julia Fox apologized for not knowing how TikTokers use the term "mascara" on the app. Fox left a comment on a video in which a TikToker use the term to discuss their sexual assault. That's because, in this case, "mascara" wasn't actually mascara. The poster of the video Fox commented under declined to comment further, but told Insider that Fox "'apologized' on a video of mine but has not given me a personal apology through a message or anything like that." TikTok;@niyxhwatsonIn her response TikTok story, Fox also mentioned that the viral experience had opened her up to a wave of online harassment.
Controversial beauty gurus Jeffree Star and James Charles are among those weighing in on the drama. The video received over 47,800 comments, many of which doubted the end result of the product and accused Nogueira of wearing synthetic lashes. " On January 26 he posted a TikTok video with the caption, "An UNsponsored Loreal Telescopic Mascara review." Beauty guru Alissa Ashley posted a TikTok video accusing Nogueira of, as she phrased it, "allegedly putting on a false lash to promote a mascara." Beauty YouTuber Raw Beauty Kristi also weighed in with a TikTok saying, "I think it's our responsibility and duty as influencers to keep our authenticity.
The scarcity principle drove many people to buy way too much dry pasta at the start of the pandemic. Scarcity principleThe scarcity principle is technically an economic principle, but it explains a crucial aspect of consumer behavior that leads to overspending. Consumers are more likely to buy items that they perceive as dwindling in supply. Retailers will use the scarcity principle to convince consumers to purchase items by emphasizing dwindling supplies or limited-time offers. It becomes preferable to "gain" free shipping by adding more items to your cart than to "lose" money on shipping.
But the Rebelos aren't influencers or travel photographers — they're truck drivers. Insider interviewed three trucking couples about how their marriages have survived — and even thrived — while driving freight across the country. "Even prisoners have a bigger cell than a truck," Deb told Insider. "Of course you love the person, but you better like that person, too," Frank Rebelo said. "You get into a little bit of an argument and you're packing all your stuff," Deb LaBree told Insider about the couple's early trucking days.

MORE IS LESS Starting at $43,150, the 2023 Genesis GV70 2.5T is equipped with a 300-hp engine, all-wheel drive and a long list of no-cost premium features, including heated front seats, navigation system and power hands-free liftgate. The GV70 2.5T Advanced, seen here, had an as-tested price of $52,925. This thundering herd of tiny hooves accounted for about a half-million sales in 2022, depending on what you count as a compact (vs. midsize), premium (vs. luxury) and crossover (vs. SUV). Alas, the grim truth about 4-H is that, no matter how primped and polished the contestants, when they enter the show ring, they become livestock—commoditized, consumable. Discerning judges look past the braided tails and cow mascara.
British Airways' announcement comes as other airlines revamp their uniforms to become more inclusive, breaking away from the industry's history of strict dress codes like a ban on tattoos and certain piercings. Americans will be discovering unhappy surprises in the 4,155-page omnibus bill for weeks, and our unhappy duty is to tell you about them. To take one example: Congress is giving the Food and Drug Administration expanded power over the cosmetics industry. Some 3,500 pages into the bill arrives the “Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2022,” and by “modernization” Congress means giving the federal bureaucracy more power. Peddlers of lotions and lip gloss now will have to register their facilities, report “adverse events,” and abide by stipulated manufacturing practices. The FDA will have power to issue mandatory recalls.
Writer Jill Schildhouse recently did a $300 "color analysis" session to reimagine her work wardrobe. While setting up the appointment, Thurber instructed me to arrive without any makeup, because a fresh face without outside influences interfering is needed to identify your best colors. Next, she went through my entire 'winter' spectrum of 36 colors to see which were most flatteringThese are also known as my "wow" colors. Jill SchildhouseSince my color analysis, I've discovered that building a new wardrobe around my color palette and "wow" colors really simplifies shopping and getting dressed. Family and friends have asked what I'm doing differently or why I'm glowing, and wearing these "wow" colors in my social media posts has even increased engagement.
