While people should be cautious, Claerbout said the FWC hasn't received any reports of alligator bites since Helene made landfall. However, ahead of Hurricane Helene, one Florida gator strolled around the Lakeland neighborhood, northeast of Tampa, and "got bold" enough to walk up to a house's front door, The Miami Herald reported. In a recent survey from the American Psychological Association, nearly half of the parents polled reported feeling overwhelming stress on most days. This unrelenting strain has become so prevalent in the U.S. that the Surgeon General issued an advisory warning on the mental health and well-being of parents and caregivers. Parents today spend more time with their kids than parents did in the mid-'60s, yet many are still plagued by guilt and worry that they're not doing enough. In an age of compulsive comparison and childhood enrichment, it's easy to fall into the trap of feeling inadequate while overparenting. Egyptology has come a long way from Victorian mummy-unwrapping parties. The mask of King Tutankhamun, which was damaged and glued back together, is seen at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. Some royal mummies were unveiled by running a knife straight from their head to their toes, with little care. The way early excavators treated mummified remains partly explains why the remains of King Tutankhamun, a Pharaoh of the 18th dynasty buried with the famous golden mask, are in such poor shape today. "CT scanning and X-rays are the basic ways of searching mummies nowadays because you cannot unwrap mummies in museums," Ejsmond said.

But as other pandemic Zoomtowns continue to see increases in prices and rents, Austin stands alone in its change of fortune. Housing in Austin has been through so many extreme distortions that nobody really knows what "normal" even means anymore. All told, Austin's housing stock has ballooned by more than 76,000 units since 2020, an 8.34% increase that includes single-family homes, condos, and townhomes. Considering the size of the Austin market, moving the stock of homes by nearly 10% is a colossal feat. CNN —Nearly 200 chemicals connected to breast cancer are used in the making of food packaging and plastic tableware, and dozens of those carcinogens can migrate into the human body, a new study found. Of the recently detected chemicals in food packaging, 40 are already classified as hazardous by regulatory agencies around the world, according to the study. Rates of early-onset breast cancer in women under 50 are increasing, and experts said the trend cannot be explained by genetics alone. A January 2024 update to that list found 921 possibly carcinogenic chemicals, including 642 that may stimulate estrogen or progesterone production, another known risk factor for breast cancer. FCChumon, created by the Food Packaging Forum, is a list of food contact chemicals that have been detected in human breast milk, blood, urine and tissues.

Found Golf Balls CEO Shaun Shienfield, whose company recovers and resells millions of lost balls across the US and Canada each year, told CNN that he gauged the average to be between three and four each round. Using Shienfield’s low estimate, that’s over 1.5 billion balls lost in the US every year since 2020. “While precise global estimates are challenging … the worldwide figure could easily exceed 3 to 5 billion golf balls lost each year,” Petersen told CNN. Mitchell Schols, founder of Canada-based Biodegradable Golf Balls, put a “very conservative” estimate for North America at one million balls lost to oceans annually. One UK-based man told CNN in 2015 that he could earn up to £100,000 (about $114,000) annually by diving to retrieve golf balls from lakes on golf courses.

Mistake 1: Taking photos at the wrong timeJon Carmichael captured the moon during a lunar eclipse. The silver lining is you can get better detail because you're shooting through less atmosphere and the photos will be clearer. Taking photos closer to sunset gives you more lighting compared to later at night, which will make taking a cellphone picture easier. North Korea is believed to have several sites for enriching uranium. The new type of centrifuge shows North Korea is advancing its fuel cycle capabilities, said Ankit Panda of the U.S.-based Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. “Kim also appears to suggest that North Korean tactical nuclear weapons designs may primarily rely on uranium for their cores,” he said. This is notable because North Korea is more able to scale up its highly enriched uranium stockpiles, Panda said, compared with the more complicated process for plutonium. North Korea has previously shown photos of what it says were nuclear warheads.
