One report, written by the Federal Reserve's own economists, left me with not exactly an upbeat outlook. Federal Reserve Board Chair Jerome Powell testifies during a House Committee on Financial Services hearing, Wednesday, July 18, 2018, Capitol Hill in Washington. That is, more than a third of companies could default in the coming months, thanks to tightening monetary policy. Basically, they are predicting that companies feel pain in times of policy tightening, especially those with weaker balance sheets to begin with. Investors should monitor these bearish signals to stay ahead of a potential sell-off in the stock market.

The near-mutiny in Russia this weekend had some unexpected consequences for currencies — more on that below. And yet — the Russian ruble still plunged 3% to a 15-month low on Monday, trading at one point near 87 per dollar. The Kremlin said there was a huge uptick in foreign currency demand across 15 regions in Russia, per Reuters. During the mutiny, Russian banks had cut their ruble exchange rates to over 100 per dollar, though they've since eased prices. What's your outlook for the Russian ruble by year-end?

New York CNN —The Securities and Exchange Commission fined JPMorgan Chase $4 million for mistakenly deleting 47 million emails, many of which the regulator was trying to access as part of multiple probes. SEC regulations required JPMorgan (JPM) to retain emails for a 36-month period. Upon discovery, JPMorgan reported the deletions to the SEC in 2020. “Because the deleted records are unrecoverable, it is unknown – and unknowable – how the lost records may have affected the regulatory investigations,” the SEC order stated. “JPMorgan takes its record-keeping obligations seriously,” said Veronica Navarro, who heads JPMorgan’s corporate communications division.

Dr. Chatbot will see you now

Almost invariably, the chatbot answers were rated as three or four times as reliable as the ones from the poor wee humans. But here's the most striking part: The chatbot answers, on average, were rated seven times as empathetic as the ones from humans. It's as if the unfeeling android Mr. Data figured out how to convincingly emulate Dr. Crusher's comforting bedside manner. Give those medical chatbots access to people's individual medical records, and they could offer more precisely directed advice. Healthcare AI startups will want the cheapest versions with the most financial bang, which won't necessarily have the best patient outcomes.

Despite their ease of use, passwords come with significant downsides: More than 80% of data breaches are the result of weak passwords. In 2004, Bill Gates famously envisioned the death of traditional passwords, and there have been several attempts to replace them. That's great if all of your devices are from one company — your Apple passkey would work across an iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. "Similar to our recommendations when it comes to other forms of authentication, we advise against the sharing of passkeys, passwords, etc. Passwords won't disappear overnight, but what FIDO Alliance has accomplished has convinced me our passwordless future is just around the corner.

It's not even midyear yet, but the full gamut of scenarios has been juggled in just five months. World markets have swung from "hard landing" fears of late 2022 to the "soft landing" hopes of the new year and then even unnerving thoughts of "no landing" at all - just before the banking stress hit of March forced them to return to square one. "The economy is more resilient than the market realizes," BlackRock's Chief Executive Larry Fink said on Wednesday, adding more interest rates rises will be necessary but that he saw no "evidence that we're going to have a hard landing." A "soft landing" typically relates to the ability of the Federal Reserve and other central banks to get inflation back close to 2% targets without crashing the economy into a deep contraction with surging unemployment via extreme rate rises. If correct - and not all agree - the prospect of a sustained return to 2% inflation targets would surely turn off the seatbelt sign.

Searching for an old email containing guidelines from your boss, your friend's address or your airline rewards number is about to get a whole lot easier, according to Google. On Friday, the company announced an artificial intelligence update for Gmail: Over the next 15 days, end users will begin to see "top results" when they search their inboxes, featured above the "all results" section. The new category is fueled by Google's machine learning models, which will analyze the search term, most recent emails and "other relevant factors" to determine which messages count as the best match for the query. The news is the latest in a line of strategic changes for the email service, including a controversial update to the inactive account policy in May: Once a Google account has not been used in two years, the company may then delete the account, including all its content and data. In February, Google completed the rollout of its new Gmail interface for every user, which featured a redesign and emphasis on the company's other productivity tools.

Should you check email on vacation or face a tsunami of messages once you're back at the office? An 'email intervention'Robinson launched an "Email Intervention Campaign" earlier this month to deal with issues like "vacation email panic," he told CNBC Travel. Robinson advises companies to create defined email policies, ideally ones which give workers permission not to check email on vacation. Don't respond (if you don't have to) Emails proliferate like rabbits, said Joe Robinson.

Pioneer set its second-quarter base plus variable dividend at $3.34 a share – factoring in a base dividend of $1.25, which was raised 14% from $1.10, and a variable dividend of $2.09. Management wants more flexibility to repurchase shares instead of paying a huge variable dividend. This means that Pioneer will likely shift what previously went to the variable dividend into share buybacks. Notably, Pioneer doesn't hedge its oil production, making its realized pricing closer to that of the underlying commodity. Oil production is forecast between 357,000 to 372,000 barrels per day, which at the midpoint tops estimates of 364,000.

Here are my five most valuable hacks, with example prompts I use daily to reduce my workload. I started using AI tools in 2022 but didn't find them to be effective at capturing brand voice and tone. I think the best marketing copy reads a little below that, at a fifth- or sixth-grade level. With ChatGPT, I can write freely and then prompt the AI to change the reading level and tone for me. I interact with other marketers on Discord servers and in Facebook groups to get more ideas for using ChatGPT.

New York CNN —GoodRx customers who typically receive emails about prescription drug deals and refill reminders from the company saw something very different in their inboxes this week. GoodRX sent a notice to users detailing allegations from the Federal Trade Commission that the company shared sensitive health data with third parties for advertising purposes without customers’ permission. “This information included details about drug and health conditions people searched and their prescription medications,” the company wrote in the notice e-mailed to customers and posted on its website. In some cases, GoodRx used the information to target people with health-related ads.”The alert comes a month after the FTC announced a formal settlement with the digital health platform and issued a “first-of-its-kind proposed order” prohibiting the company from sharing health data from its customers with other companies for advertising. Users took to social media to voice concern about the e-mail, with some wondering how much money the firm might have made from their health data and others swearing off using the service.

The concept of space security arguably doesn't get talked about enough, but a quick search for something like "cyber," "space," and "Pentagon" gives you an immediate sense of how U.S. military leaders see the digital threat to satellites. The company just raised $16.4 million in an oversubscribed round, to make a full-tilt push into building its space business. It entered the space market in late 2019, and Beames stepped in as chairman early last year.
