CNN —As a youth mental health crisis persists in the US, a new report highlights a significant gap between the level of support that teenagers feel and the amount that parents think their children have. Parents responded to survey questions from trained interviewers, while children responded to survey questions online after their parents gave approval. “This suggests a systematic bias where parents consistently report higher levels of social and emotional support compared with their teenager’s perception, and in doing so may underestimate their teenager’s perceived need for social and emotional support,” the study authors wrote. And the new report shows that teens who did not feel that they always or usually had the support they need were significantly more likely to report a number of poor health effects than those who did feel supported. Two-thirds of teens who did not feel supported reported poor sleep, compared with about a third of those who did feel supported.

Now, a new study has found those who experience more gratitude also have a lower risk of dying. The researchers used data from the Nurses’ Health Study, which included nearly 50,000 women between ages 69 and 96 who completed a six-item gratitude questionnaire in 2016. The researchers controlled for factors such as psychological well-being, health issues and other demographics including social and religious participation. There’s no clear consensus on how often one should practice gratitude, Simon-Thomas said. Having more gratitude has also been linked to being more optimistic in general, and people who express higher levels of gratitude tend to look more for the good in life, Watkins added.

Two miniature horses, Aidan and Pearl, stood on the terrace of a tiny TV studio in SoHo earlier this month on a sweltering evening, one more equine guest than the producers of “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen” anticipated. They were part of a bit for taping the late-night talk show’s 15th anniversary special and, apparently, booking a horse requires also booking it an emotional support horse. He soon headed back inside to provide emotional support of a different kind for the show’s humans.
