And so whenever I get one of those notifications, I know I’m going to have a good time there. kevin roose[LAUGHS]: I actually don’t think I could’ve told you what IBM stood for. kevin rooseSo I’ve thought a lot and written a lot about how and when AI actually is a threat to jobs. The third category is just the jobs that I think are going to be protected, the jobs that we won’t let AI do. But I don’t actually think the speed of it matters at all.
Belgrade, Serbia CNN —Serbians are reeling and demanding answers after two mass shootings in less than 48 hours left multiple people dead, with widespread calls for tough action to prevent any further repeat of such tragedies. You could never dream that this would happen here,” Belgrade resident Marko Kovacevic told CNN. “This is the worst thing that happened in Serbia since the bombing in 1999,” another resident, David Stevens, told CNN at a vigil in Belgrade. The murderer had no empathy or remorse,” he told CNN in an interview on Thursday. His deputy, Milan Pašić, told CNN his boss had offered his resignation, but it was not clear if it would be accepted.
Canva, a design software maker, has 3,500 employees across eight offices worldwide. It’s not easy to carry out something like this, Ms. Rogerson said. “We’re trying to think through this.”Another problem is that other workdays can be busier than they otherwise would. “You know when you have a game of Tetris and things get wild?” Ms. Rogerson asked. “That is what my calendar looks like with the exception of no-meeting Wednesday.”
New York CNN —Dominion Voting Systems’ historic defamation case against Fox News will proceed to a high-stakes jury trial in mid-April, a Delaware judge ruled Friday, in a major decision that dismantled several of the right-wing network’s key defenses. Both sides had asked Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric Davis for a pretrial ruling in their favor, declaring them the winner. After thousands of pages of filings and exhibits, and a series of courtroom clashes, Davis decided the case should go to trial. Incriminating texts and emails have shown how Fox executives, hosts and producers didn’t believe the claims the network was peddling about Dominion. Despite what appeared on air, Fox News executives and hosts privately criticized the Trump camp for pushing claims of election fraud.
An online video combining clips from three Buzz Aldrin interviews do not show him saying the first moon landing was faked, but users are sharing the video as though Aldrin “admits” that Apollo 11 did not land on the moon. An example of a tweet including the text “’Buzz Aldrin’ Admits the moon landing was FAKE!” can be seen (here). The moon landing took place on July 20, 1969, with astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin emerging from the Apollo 11 Lunar Module and taking the first human steps on the lunar surface. Reuters has also previously debunked claims that the moon landing was faked (here), (here), (here). The spliced clips from interviews with Buzz Aldrin do not show him saying that the 1969 moon landing was faked or didn’t happen.

What Guns Did to My Childhood
  + stars: | 2022-12-14 | by ( Mitchell S. Jackson | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +10 min
Isn’t a part of childhood feeling insecure and divining ways to resolve those feelings or else abide them? From Mitchell S. JacksonThe presence of gangs — mind you, a predictable symptom of poverty and neglect — led to the prevalence of guns that shaped much of the normal childhood maturing around me as a kid. It surprises me little to none that Black boys are the likeliest to die by guns. These guns alter their lives in significant ways, not in the least by nullifying the childhood grace of feeling the greatest distance from death. Amen, I’ve never had to sit him down for a stern talk on guns or the violence and grieving they reap.
Smith takes over a staff that’s already nearly twice the size of Robert Mueller’s team of lawyers who worked on the Russia probe. Smith will also take on national security investigators already working the probe into the potential mishandling of federal records taken to Mar-a-Lago after Trump left the White House. Those lawyers maintain the former president is unlikely to be indicted, according to two sources familiar. Special Counsel Robert Mueller makes a statement about the Russia investigation on May 29, 2019 at the Justice Department in Washington, DC. Trump allies have consistently maintained that nothing Trump did related to the election and January 6 itself amounts to a crime.
Attorneys for the alleged gunman in the deadly shooting at an LGBTQ club in Colorado said in court filings the suspect is nonbinary and uses “they” and “them” pronouns. In court appearances this week, Aldrich’s lawyers and District Attorney Michael Allen used he/him pronouns for Aldrich, but Aldrich’s attorneys referred to their client as “Mx. It’s unclear whether the public defenders were accidentally using he/him pronouns for Aldrich, and their office has not returned a request for comment. A spokesperson for the district attorney’s office said, regarding the suspect’s pronouns, “The defendant will be identified as the defendant throughout proceedings,” but declined to comment further on both legal teams using he/him pronouns for Aldrich in court. Holt said the response from Carlson is another part of why he believes it’s worth questioning the suspect’s claim.

“TODAY” show weatherman and anchor Al Roker has been readmitted to the hospital after revealing last month he was treated for blood clots. “It was wonderful hosting the celebration, but, of course, we all wished that Al could’ve been with us,” Kotb said. “Al Roker-- hurry back to us... counting the days xoxoxo,” Kotb wrote. Roker took some time off following the diagnosis, and returned to the “TODAY” show with a clean bill of health. “It was this great relief,” he told “TODAY” viewers at the time.
CNN Business —Two victims injured when a car drove into an Apple store filed lawsuits Tuesday morning claiming various development companies failed to protect people by not installing barriers near the store. One person died and at least 19 others were injured after an SUV drove through an Apple store in Hingham, Massachusetts, on November 21, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office. Sheff showed pictures of barriers at different Apple store locations and other areas in the Hingham shopping complex, arguing they should have been at the Hingham Apple store as well. The lawsuits accuse several property development entities of negligence, claiming they “failed to reasonably protect occupants” by not installing barricades near the store. One lawsuit filed by a non-employee accuses Apple of negligence, alleging it failed to reasonably protect the store’s occupants.
Former Vice President Mike Pence said voters will "have better choices" for a presidential candidate than Donald Trump, who announced his third bid for the office on Tuesday night from his Mar-a-Lago resort. "I think we’ll have better choices in the future," Pence told ABC's David Muir. Pence's latest comments come after months of distancing himself from Trump over his actions on Jan. 6. Asked at a Georgetown University event in October if he would support Trump if he becomes the GOP nominee for president, Pence said, “Well, there might be somebody else I’d prefer more." He appeared to edge closer to confirming plans for a 2024 run during a New Hampshire Institute of Politics “Politics & Eggs” event in August.
His father, Christopher Darnell Jones Sr, told NBC affiliate WBBT of Richmond, Virginia, “I can’t believe it was him. I don’t know what happened between then and now to cause this to happen,” he continued. He said some people were picking on him or whatever, he didn’t know how to handle it. She said that she didn't have contact with him after the shooting and didn't know what might have contributed to it. Now the father wants to speak face-to-face with his son and figure out what let up to the shooting.
Family and friends of three college football players, gunned down at the University of Virginia, called their slayings "heartbreaking and tragic." This is my firstborn child,” he said, adding that his son who could “light up a room just with a smile” was focused on school, football and his family. Their family, from Charleston, South Carolina, was heading to the UVA campus Monday. “It is heartbreaking and tragic that Devin’s young life was cut short by violence," Wisconsin Athletic Director Chris McIntosh said in a statement. Chandler still had plenty of friends in Madison and Sunday's fatal shooting will be felt throughout the program, Wisconsin officials said.
As a teen, I remember watching “Friends” star Jennifer Aniston host “Saturday Night Live” back in 2004. In the interview, Aniston divulged that all of the speculation was “really hard,” yet that in the midst of it, she kept trying to get pregnant. If you follow any IVF or childless-not-by-choice communities on social media, you’ll see that people stop trying for different reasons. Whatever the cause, none of us need a reminder that we could’ve just “tried harder.”The comments asserting that Aniston should have adopted after IVF didn’t work are equally obnoxious. It’s too late to undo the damage Aniston experienced, but it is still possible to spare the next childless woman the same treatment.

Following dramatic statements from victims and victims' families, a Florida judge is expected to formally sentence Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz to life in prison without parole Wednesday for the 2018 campus massacre that killed 14 students and three staff members. Amy Beth Bennett / Pool/South Florida Sun-Sentinel via AP fileProsecutors had sought the death penalty, while the defense had asked for life in prison. The jury’s decision on Oct. 13 shook family members of victims who were visibly distraught by the verdict. On Tuesday, survivors of the shooting and victims’ loved ones had the chance to deliver impact statements before the sentence was formally announced. “Whatever pain you experience in prison will unfortunately be a fraction of what Ben endured,” his father, Eric Wikander, said.
The sentencing of Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz began Tuesday with victims and family members sharing their heartbreak before him in court. With so many who wish to be heard, the actual sentencing is expected to take place Wednesday, according to the Broward State Attorney’s Office. Stacey Lippel, a teacher at Parkland who was shot and survived, told Cruz: “You don’t know me but you tried to kill me." “Whatever pain you experience in prison will unfortunately be a fraction of what Ben endured,” his father, Eric Wikander, said. The jury’s recommendation of life in prison last month, was met with tears and outrage by family members of the victims, with many saying the shooter deserved the death penalty.
We now have our third Tory prime minister in seven weeks — Rishi Sunak, a former finance minister. But perhaps one of the most head-scratching moments of this whole ordeal was how Boris Johnson’s supporters were pushing for him to make a comeback following Liz Truss’ disastrous 44 days as prime minister. He won by default without the vote being decided online by all Conservative Party members, as planned. Of course, limiting the decision of a new prime minister to the members of one party alone is undemocratic. That just scratches the surface of the damage he did as prime minister.
CONCORD, N.H. — The father of Harmony Montgomery, a New Hampshire girl who disappeared in 2019 at age 5 but was not reported missing until late last year, has been arrested on a charge of second-degree murder, authorities said Monday. Other counts against Adam Montgomery, 32, include falsifying physical evidence and abuse of a corpse between December 2019 and March 2020. An attorney for Adam Montgomery did not immediately comment. Police said they contacted Adam Montgomery, who had custody of Harmony, and other family members by the end of December. Bail for Kayla Montgomery was recently revoked after she didn’t show up at a hearing on charges against her, including that she lied to state health officials about having Harmony Montgomery in her care.
