In a bid to coax Donald Trump back onto the debate stage with Vice President Kamala Harris, Democrats plan to launch a new messaging campaign dubbing the former president a "chicken" for saying he won't debate again. The chicken billboards, which will first appear at Trump's rally Monday in Indiana, Pennsylvania, include a digitally altered image of Trump in a chicken suit alongside the words "There's no debate: Donald Trump's a chicken." Harris and Trump met for their first debate, hosted by ABC News, this month in Philadelphia. On Saturday, Harris' campaign announced that she'd accepted CNN's invitation to participate in a debate on Oct. 23. The Trump campaign didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Week 3 of the NFL season was filled with impressive wins — some big-time comebacks, teams getting their first victory of the season and more. Here are the teams who came away with the biggest wins of the week. It was a baffling home performance for the Raiders one week after they upset the Ravens. Dalton’s performance not only saves the season for Carolina; it raises even more questions about how poor Young’s performance was in the first two weeks. Niners signal-caller Brock Purdy had an impressive stat line — 22 of 30 for 292 yards and three scores — but couldn’t put away the game late.

JOHANNESBURG Associated Press —An American woman who went missing while on a hike on Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa, has died and her body has been recovered, authorities said on Monday. The woman has been identified as a 20-year-old student from North Carolina named Brook Cheuvront. The management of SANParks, which manages Table Mountain and other national parks, said the cause of death was still unclear and an inquest into her death has been opened. An initial search was conducted by rangers, wilderness search and rescue members, and trail runners until late Saturday evening when it was no longer practical to continue, said Louw. South African authorities have urged people to avoid hiking on their own, suggesting it be done in groups of at least four people.

So she and Maggie had focused their hopes on getting a private scholarship. She considered paying $700 for an online class, heavily promoted on Facebook, that promised to show parents how to find college scholarships. Every year, hundreds of thousands of students like Maggie devote countless hours to the hunt for private scholarships to pay for college. AdvertisementWith the combination of institutional aid and private scholarship she received, Maggie managed to cut her original college bill from $15,000 to $8,000. The illness is treatable, but it's likely to cost the family $5,000 out of pocket — effectively wiping out the financial value of the private scholarship Maggie received.

South Carolina state Rep. Seth Rose, a Democrat in Columbia and one of Marsh’s attorneys, called it a “really tragic” case. But at the hospital, Marsh learned that her infant, a girl, had not survived. Historically, birth outcomes for Black women in Orangeburg County, where Marsh lost her pregnancy, have ranked among the worst in South Carolina. Nebraska Republicans dominate the state's politics, including its officially non-partisan, one-house legislature. The Nebraska Examiner reported that without McDonnell, Republicans have "no path" unless a Democrat or nonpartisan lawmaker changes their mind. Nebraska and Maine are the only states that award some of their Electoral College votes by congressional district. In 2020, President Joe Biden carried the Omaha-area 2nd District and its one Electoral College vote. If she carries the Omaha-area vote, she could win by holding onto Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin — the so-called "Blue Wall" states.

And while polls may be tight, the money race isn't — Harris is outspending Trump by approximately $5 million every single day, according to the most recent federal filings. Harris is outspending Trump in ad buys in every single swing state, Bloomberg reported based on data from AdImpact. Mark Robinson, Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina and candidate for Governor, delivers remarks prior to Republican presidential nominee former President Donald Trump speaking at a campaign event at Harrah's Cherokee Center on August 14, 2024 in Asheville, North Carolina. The political network largely funded by billionaire industrialist Charles Koch has been quietly backing North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson despite a litany of controversies, according to records uncovered by CNBC. Though Robinson has denied he wrote the scores of posts, at least four of his top aides from his North Carolina gubernatorial campaign resigned within days of the report's publication. The move by Americans for Prosperity to back Robinson from a policy perspective surprised some North Carolina Republican strategists.

Four top staff members of Mark Robinson's campaign for North Carolina governor have stepped down, the campaign announced Sunday as the candidate faces calls from Republicans to do the same. The campaign said the staff members who stepped down are Chris Rodriguez, campaign manager; Heather Whillier, finance director; Jason Rizk, deputy campaign manager; and Conrad Pogorzelski III, general consultant and senior adviser. Some Republican lawmakers have expressed concern over the allegations, but the North Carolina Republican Party emphasized in a statement shortly after the story was published that Robinson "has categorically denied the allegations." Democrats have sought to link Robinson to former President Donald Trump, releasing new advertisements highlighting Trump's previous praise for Robinson, who is North Carolina's lieutenant governor. Democrats see North Carolina as a state that can possibly be flipped in the presidential race.

Los Angeles quarterback Justin Herbert left the Chargers’ 20-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers early Sunday after appearing to reaggravate the high-ankle sprain that had sidelined him in practice in the days leading up to the game. Herbert did not play the entire fourth quarter as the Chargers (2-1) lost for the first time, while Pittsburgh (3-0) remained undefeated under quarterback Justin Fields. The ground game wasn’t a boost, either, with the Chargers managing only 61 yards on 20 carries. Herbert left the stadium in a walking boot. After the loss to the Steelers, Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters that going into Sunday, the team planned to remove Herbert if he showed any sign of a limp.

Vice President Kamala Harris has proposed offering $25,000 in down payment assistance to first-time homebuyers and incentives to homebuilders to construct more housing for first-time homebuyers. Former President Donald Trump has said he would lower housing costs by opening federal land to development, rolling back regulations and reducing overall inflation. The North Carolina Republican Party on Thursday issued a statement reiterating that Robinson has "categorically denied the allegations." Washington CNN —Former President Donald Trump told two fictional stories about Oprah Winfrey on Saturday – one of them new, another he has been telling for at least 11 years. In a social media post late Saturday night, Trump wrote, “A long time ago, Oprah Winfrey asked me to do her last Network Television Show. He did not appear on the last episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in 2011, nor even in the star-studded final week of the show. At a campaign rally in North Carolina earlier on Saturday, Trump said: “And didn’t Oprah ask her about her time at McDonald’s? The report says median asking rents in swing states have shot up almost 24% since 2020, with especially big increases in key states like Michigan. As rent prices have climbed, housing affordability remains stretched. AdvertisementThat's a $10,365 difference, meaning renters in swing states earn 17% less than they need to afford the typical apartment. "America's swing state voters will decide the outcome of the next presidential election based on the candidates' plans for tackling key issues including the housing affordability crisis," Fairweather said. On average, according to the latest CNN Poll of Polls, Harris is ahead by 3 points. Instead, it is a race to 270 electoral votes through the Electoral College. Per CNN’s current race ratings, Harris starts at 225 electoral votes to Trump’s 219. A win in Nebraska’s 2nd District would likely give Harris exactly 270 electoral votes when added to Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Some Nebraska Republicans, urged on by Trump, want to change the state’s method of allocating electoral votes to a winner-take-all format.
