A California baseball stadium featured in the Hollywood blockbuster “A League of Their Own” was destroyed by a fire late Thursday, officials said. The Jay Littleton Ballpark, in Ontario, California, went up in flames about 11:30 p.m. and is a “a total loss,” city spokesperson Dan Bell said. “If you look up and down the street, you have baseball lovers everywhere,” Ontario Eastern League president Aaron Matthiesen told NBC Los Angeles, adding that some were in tears. “This ballpark has been the heart of Ontario, the historic ballpark, the place to play for our kids. “I have two young kids in our league, and the dream has always been that they get to play at Jay Littleton,” he said.

The Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays will resume a June 26 game that was suspended for rain in what will be the first game of a doubleheader on Monday. Back in June, Jansen, then playing for the Blue Jays, was at the plate with one out and one on in the top of the second when the game was suspended. “I don’t even know how this works,” Jansen said when asked about the suspended game after he’d been traded to Boston. The Blue Jays will have some funky developments in the game, too. Though the suspended game will end on Aug. 26, it will be officially recorded as having taken place on June 26 in the record books.

The gathering was a so-called deliberative poll where the participants were randomly selected to produce a representative sample of young voters from the entire nation. There have been past “America in One Room” studies of the general electorate, but this was the first to specifically examine first-time young voters. And the portion of young voters who opposed drilling in the Artic wilderness increased, from 72% before to 76% afterward. SANTA ANA, Calif. — A Southern California bookmaker who took thousands of sports bets from the former interpreter for baseball star Shohei Ohtani pleaded guilty Friday to running an illegal gambling business. “I was running an illegal gambling operation, laundering money through other people’s bank accounts,” Bowyer told the judge. According to prosecutors, Bowyer ran an illegal gambling business for at least five years in Southern California and Las Vegas, and he took wagers from more than 700 bettors, including Ohtani’s former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara. Meanwhile, sports gambling is illegal in California, even as 38 states and the District of Columbia allow some form of it. Federal prosecutors said Bowyer’s other customers included a professional baseball player for a Southern California club and a former minor league player.

A 5-year-old boy died when a bounce house full of children went airborne and crashed down onto a baseball field in Maryland on Friday, authorities said. CNN —A 5-year-old boy died and another child was injured when a bounce house they were inside went airborne during a baseball game in Maryland on Friday night, authorities said. The bounce house flew onto the playing field at Regency Furniture Stadium, in Waldorf, as the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs baseball team was playing, according to a news release from Charles County officials. The children who were inside fell before the bounce house landed on the field, according to the news release. Onsite medical responders immediately tended to the children, with help from trainers from the baseball team and attendees of the game, authorities said. The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs postponed their Saturday night game due to the incident.
