[1/5] Tennis - French Open - Roland Garros, Paris, France - June 7, 2023 Poland's Iga Swiatek celebrates winning her quarter final match against Coco Gauff of the U.S. REUTERS/Kai PfaffenbachPARIS, June 7 (Reuters) - Holder Iga Swiatek was tested by American sixth seed Coco Gauff in a rematch of their 2022 French Open title clash but the world number one showed her class to secure a 6-4 6-2 victory and reach the semi-finals on Wednesday. "It was not easy," said Swiatek, the first player since Conchita Martinez in 1995 to drop 15 games or fewer en route to the semi-finals in Paris. It was tight and Coco was using the conditions well, so I was happy that I was able to win. She sealed her seventh victory over Gauff in as many matches by pouncing on her serve again and finished it off on her first matchpoint when the 19-year-old found the net. CNN —Iga Świątek remains on course to retain her French Open title after easing past Coco Gauff 6-4 6-2 to reach the semifinals at Roland-Garros. In a rematch of last year’s final, Świątek ultimately had too much quality for Gauff to handle as her relentless power and consistency eventually broke the American down. It wasn’t easy, especially with the wind today, but I’m happy I’m through to the semifinal.”Swiatek remains on course to successfully defend her French Open title. It proved to be the beginning of the end for Gauff, who was powerless to stop Świątek’s inevitable march to victory. Świątek, according to Opta, is the first player since Conchita Martinez in 1995 to reach the semifinals at the French Open having dropped 15 games or fewer.

PARIS, June 4 (Reuters) - Iga Swiatek underlined her credentials as a firm favourite for the French Open title on Saturday after serving up double bagels yet again with a 6-0 6-0 win, but the world number one refused to be swept up in the "Iga's Bakery" social media craze. But when a question about "Iga's Bakery" was put to Swiatek after her victory, her smile vanished before the top seed said she wanted to remain respectful to her opponents. loading"Look, I don't want to really talk about that. I really get why people do that because it's fun and tennis is entertainment and everything," Swiatek told reporters. Swiatek will next face Lesia Tsurenko, who lost 6-2 6-0 to her in Rome last month.

Without Celestino García, New Yorkers might go without some of their most beloved bagels. Bagels can now be made by machine, so there aren’t many masters of the form left who can roll them by hand. But many bagel enthusiasts swear by the handmade approach, insisting that it produces a fluffier, chewier bite. I spent a day with Mr. García as he went from shop to shop, casually rolling thousands of bagels at a time. And I learned how he became one of the most sought-after people in the New York City bagel business.

Mr. García, 58, cranes his neck to look for the B3 bus, which will take him to the Avenue U subway station. Each episode is about 10 to 20 minutes long and spotlights a day in the life of someone like Mr. García, who is one of the city’s last bagel rollers. Mr. García is used to the early call time. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan once turned down a care package of bagels and lox, per Forward. She was concerned she could be violating the court's ethics rules for accepting gifts, friends said. Meanwhile, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was accepting lavish holidays from a GOP megadonor. And unlike the rest of the federal judiciary, the Supreme Court is not bound by a code of conduct. The Supreme Court did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
Because of the versatility and hands-off aspect of the preparation, these are some of my favorite breakfast options for road trip vacations and camping adventures — but they work for busy at-home mornings, too. Overnight oats are one of the most versatile breakfast options out there — and can easily be taken on the road or enjoyed at home. NelliSyr/iStockphoto/Getty ImagesTartines, AKA open-faced sandwiches — or as I like to call them, “things on toast” — comprise a catchall category of breakfast options that can skew savory or sweet. When I have a few minutes and am feeling famished, my go-to move is to grab eggs and tortillas for breakfast tacos or burritos. Eggs and tortillas pair well in the morning to make breakfast tacos or burritos.

Now, Philadelphia cream cheese and H&H Bagels, a New York City-based bagel shop, are trying to please the carbohydrate- and dairy-loving communities with a new and dubious spin on the stuffed crust: The bagel stuffed with cream cheese. But unlike stuffed-crust pizzas, the bagel is filled with cheese after it is baked, making it more of a cream cheese bagel donut, if not in spirit then at least in form. What’s so wrong with slicing a bagel and slathering on a healthy amount of cream cheese? New York doesn’t have a specific bagel tax, explained Ryan Cleveland, a representative of the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. Philadelphia cream cheese, which struggled with shortages in the past, turned that issue into a marketing opportunity as well.
The best case outcome — which I think is unlikely, given the brand tarnishing — is that we operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary. We spent a whole weekend on the phone, email, chat, any sort of way to get in touch with the VC firms, partners of the VC firms, operating partners, CFOs, anybody we could to try and get them to rally. Originally there was a list of 13 VC firms, which said they were willing to sign a statement saying that they supported us. In a memo published Tuesday, the Pentagon told military personnel to stop eating poppy seeds. Consuming poppy seeds could result in a codeine positive drug test, the memo warned. Some poppy seed varieties have higher codeine contamination than previously thought, it said. Poppy seeds are a naturally-derived product originating from poppy plants. The organization usually also advises athletes to stop eating poppy seeds a few days before and during competition to avoid positive tests.
"Bare Minimum Monday" is the latest workplace trend taking over TikTok. First, a bit about Bare Minimum Monday: "It's a practice where employees show up to work to only do the bare minimum on a Monday, often starting the day late after a productive morning of self-care rituals," Fortune wrote. Marisa Jo, a TikToker credited with gifting Bare Minimum Monday to the masses, describes it as a way to both eliminate the "Sunday scaries" and remove the "unnecessary pressure" she was putting on herself to be productive. Bare Minimum Monday is, of course, the TikTokian progeny of "quiet quitting," which itself sprang from a dark time when there were few name-your-pain labels for us plebeians. The benchmark price for natural gas futures has cratered about 28% this year, and it's trading roughly 85% cheaper than record highs reached in August. At that time, natural gas was costing buyers about 10 times more than usual ahead of the winter months. As a key energy supplier to Europe, many feared that Russia would cut off natural gas flows in retaliation to Western sanctions. Europe enjoyed its third hottest January ever last month, meaning people used less heating and thus less natural gas. A former Gazprom official told Reuters this week that all the years of work to build up Russia's natural gas exports have become moot.

I'm a Philadelphia native who used to work as a chef and baker in restaurants around the city. Philadelphia is known for its cheesesteaks, but it also has great Mexican, Italian, and Thai food. There are too many restaurants in Philadelphia worth trying to list them all here. However, these 12 restaurants are my tried-and-true favorites that every first-time visitor should try during a trip to Philadelphia. In my opinion, it serves some of the best Thai food in the country.

Long before the pandemic, Nicholas Bloom, a Stanford economics professor, was already studying the most effective work-from-home policies. So, armed with decades worth of research and thousands of pandemic-era interviews, what's the one prediction Bloom says it would've been "horrifying" to get wrong about 2022? With a year's hindsight and additional research, Bloom says this prediction has largely borne out, noting that it felt particularly easy to predict by the end of 2021. In it, he advocated for employee choice with regards to what days of the week they'd work in the office. "There's this famous saying that people overestimate technology in the short run, and underestimate it in the long run," Bloom adds.

This is the best dish you could serve at Thanksgiving

CNN —As iconic Thanksgiving dishes go, stuffing is likely runner-up only to turkey as the dish most often on the dining table. Classic bread stuffing and variationsA traditional bread and herb stuffing is a fan favorite for many reasons. Think of this basic stuffing recipe as a jumping-off point for bringing more main dish energy to the table (especially if you’re considering a turkey-free or plant-based Thanksgiving this year). In place of meat-based ingredients, nuts, seeds and dried fruit can also bring in flavor and textural interest. Chestnut stuffing was once as popular as oyster stuffing, as the meaty but tender nuts give the dish a subtly earthy and sweet undertone.
For most consumers, price breaks on their groceries come as welcome relief given that store food prices overall have surged 12.4% through October versus a year ago. In fresh produce, the average unit price for prepared mixed vegetables from July to September (the latest data available) dropped 68% versus the same period last year. In fruits, the average unit price is down 1.8% for tangerines and has declined 7% for dates in the same three-month period. A lot of fresh seafood options are cheaper as well: the average unit price for striped bass fell 41.8% (July through September) over the prior year. “You’re are seeing a little bit of an increase in turkey [prices] but you are also seeing a little bit of reduction in chicken.
