Erica Stanley-Dottin is proof that we can speed up as we age. At 48, she crossed the finish line of the Berlin Marathon in September in a time of 2 hours, 52 minutes and 5 seconds. That made her one of a handful of U.S.-born African-American women to run 26.2 miles in under three hours, as tracked by the National Black Marathoners Association. Now 49, she wants to clock a 2-hour, 48-minute race at the New York City Marathon on Sunday.

CNN —If you’re running in the New York City Marathon Sunday, watch out – you might just be running alongside actor Ashton Kutcher. Kutcher, 44, is using the marathon as an opportunity to raise funds for Thorn, the organization he founded alongside Demi Moore in 2012 to combat child sex trafficking, according to his Instagram. Kutcher is part of a team of 100 marathon runners who have pledged to raise funds for Thorn, the website says. Kutcher, alongside around 50,000 runners, will trot through all five of New York City’s boroughs, starting on Staten Island and finishing in Central Park. Actress Ellie Kemper, “Bachelor” star Matt James and former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber have also reported on their social media that they’re participating in the race.

While nearly two dozen record highs are possible Friday through the weekend, Monday could see as many as 40 record highs from the Southeast to New England. New York's La Guardia Airport could set record highs three days in a row (Saturday, Sunday and Monday). Boston will likely set record highs two days in a row, and is looking at four days in a row with great than 70-degree temperatures. Other cities that could set record highs in the coming days include Washington, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Memphis and Buffalo, New York. The severe risk is expected to be lower compared to Friday.

CNN —It’s almost a year since marathon runner Gotytom Gebreslase last spoke to her parents over the phone, a detachment she feels most strongly during races. “My wish is to meet them soon – that would make me happy.”Gebreslase breaks the tape at the World Athletics Championships. Some reassurance over her parents’ safety arrived following Gebreslase’s victory at the world championships in July, when she came across a TV report featuring an interview with her mother. “The result I got in the world championships built my confidence,” she says. “When I started running, [my parents] didn’t discourage me, they were encouraging me – especially my mom,” says Gebreslase.

The marathon on Nov. 6 will already be broadcast to some 530 million homes worldwide but organisers hope the livestream will reach existing fans abroad without access to a traditional telecast. "So if you have content and you have valuable content, you have to migrate where the audience is." For Des Linden, a two-time Olympian who won the Boston Marathon in 2018, the appeal of livestreaming in athletics is simple.
