Even with vaccine skeptic Robert F. Kennedy Jr. tapped to potentially lead the Department of Health and Human Services, CNBC's Jim Cramer said drug and junk food industries aren't necessarily headed for ruin. "Ultimately, if RFK dons jackboots and demands that we don't have vaccines or eat junk food, it probably won't matter," he said. At the same time, Cramer added, Kennedy has taken a hard stance against processed food. Many drug and processed food stocks have already shouldered heavy losses since Trump named Kennedy, including Eli Lilly , Bristol-Myers , Moderna , PepsiCo , J.M. Plus, he continued, drug and junk food stocks aren't particularly good investments during a rate-cutting cycle.

New York CNN —McDonald’s is spending $100 million on marketing and to help franchises most heavily affected by a recent E. coli outbreak that has sickened more than 100 people and damaged sales. In a memo sent to employees and obtained by CNN, McDonald’s is spending $35 million on marketing, which includes a value deal focused on its chicken nuggets, plus $65 million directed toward franchisees that have lost business in states where the outbreak happened. Visits and sales took a nosedive in October after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said that fresh slivered onions served on the Quarter Pounders were the likely source of an E. coli outbreak. More than 100 people got sick across 14 states and several lawsuits have been filed against the chain. McDonald’s has said recent tests showed no E. coli in its food, and in the memo noted its Quarter Pounder burgers topped with slivered onions are now back on menus nationwide.

The conversation on Friday was the first time Scholz had spoken with Putin in two years. It comes as the German leader gears up for a snap election and Europe waits to hear US President-elect Donald Trump’s plan for ending the war in Ukraine. “He stressed Germany’s unbroken determination to back Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression for as long as necessary,” the spokesperson added. Ukraine said however that phone conversations with Putin brought no added value on the path to achieving a “just peace” in Ukraine. Or any of the blockbuster weight loss and diabetes drugs that recently caught the world’s attention? The joy of foodHolst is also very focused on this particular mechanism of the GLP-1 drugs but worries that it can go too far. For others, it is the loss of lean muscle mass that accompanies their weight loss and puts them at greater risk for falls. Because the medications work by slowing digestion, terrible constipation becomes a side effect that is too much for some to bear. There is little doubt that for most people, regular exercise and eating right is still the best strategy for weight loss and overall health.

The long-lost worm is Haplosyllis anthogorgicola, a species of bristle worm, or polychaete. But as Forreau was sorting her underwater photos of seahorses and corals, she made another unexpected discovery: The worms’ coral burrows were visible in the images. Perhaps, she thought, that might also be the case in other photos of pygmy seahorses. Images of pygmy seahorses taken by scuba divers were crawling with worm photobombs. Worms’ limbs, heads and tails poked out of coral burrows in the hundreds; the scientists even counted seven examples of worms crawling on seahorses’ bodies.

Processed food stocks tumbled on Friday as investors feared a crackdown under President-elect Donald Trump and ally Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Cheerios cereal and Betty Crocker cake mix maker General Mills fell more than 2%, as did Conagra Brands , the company behind Reddi-wip. Frozen potato supplier Lamb Weston , whose french fries are sold in chains including McDonald's and Chick-fil-A, dropped more than 6%. CNN —President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team is bypassing traditional FBI background checks for at least some of his Cabinet picks while using private companies to conduct vetting of potential candidates for administration jobs, people close to the transition planning say. It also reflects Trump’s deep mistrust of the national security establishment, which he derides as the Deep State. If Gaetz does not participate in the vetting process, the FBI could still try to do a basic investigation at the request of the Senate. Instead, Trump’s transition team has been focused on conducting its own internal vetting of candidates for top administration jobs. So if Trump’s team continues to skirt the vetting process, those tapped for key roles wouldn’t be able to receive briefings until then.
