US oil and gas production is having a record year. US oil production reached an all-time high of 13.2 million barrels a day last month and has remained that high since. US natural gas production is also set a record-high this year, and show no indications of slowing. The numbers poke a hole in arguments made by Republicans who claim Biden administration policies have thwarted US energy production. Still, Hare said: "It's clear that the Biden administration is not running a war against fossil fuels, or if it is, it's a very unsuccessful war."

The clean energy package, which was approved by Democrats in the Michigan Legislature this month, has been lauded by environmental groups. Of the 12% produced through renewable sources last year, most came from winds that sweep across the Great Lakes. Under the package, clean energy includes renewable sources along with nuclear energy and natural gas. Meeting the 50% renewable energy goal by 2030, and 60% five years later, will require a massive buildout of utility-scale renewable energy resources in Michigan. Public reaction to the Democrats’ ambitious energy plan could have wide-reaching implications for the party in 2024.

REUTERS/David Gray Acquire Licensing RightsSYDNEY, Nov 24 (Reuters) - The long-term value of hotly contested $10.6 billion takeover target Origin Energy (ORG.AX) has been muddied by a government plan to accelerate the rollout of renewable energy, announced just hours before a key shareholder vote. However, the potential for new investment via the government's scheme undercuts Brookfield's argument that Origin and Australia needed its deep pockets to decarbonise quickly, Vickerson said. Pension giant AustralianSuper has argued Origin's stake in fast-growing British renewable energy company Octopus Energy, gas assets and millions of customers position the company well for the energy transition. The government's new scheme only strengthens the fund's conviction about Origin, according to a person familiar with AustralianSuper's thinking. However, Simon Mawhinney, chief investment officer at fund manager Allan Gray, which owns a roughly 3% stake in Origin, said the government's plan appears likely to push down returns.

In some cases, it simply dissipates — mass protest as release valve. In others, it is repurposed by more strategic actors with clearer objectives, often political agents friendlier to the establishment and working to enclose the protest energy in a big centrist tent. In still others, the initial protests present the provocation around which outraged others can mobilize a reactionary backlash. The pattern holds not just across the poorer parts of the world, where Bevins concentrates, but in more affluent and outwardly “stable” parts of Europe and North America as well. Here, recent protests have been characterized by the same two distinctive features: their enormous scale and their mercurial shapelessness.

They said some battery operators are already supplying back-up power to grids at a price competitive with gas power plants, meaning gas will be used less. British independent Carlton Power dropped plans for an 800 million pound ($997 million) gas power plant in Manchester, northern England, in 2016. MODELS UNDER SCRUTINYDevelopers can no longer use financial modelling that assumes gas power plants are used constantly throughout their 20-year-plus lifetime, analysts said. Many countries world-wide, but especially in Europe, provide payments for standby power plants through capacity markets. In Europe, 40 million electric vehicles are expected by 2030, capable of displacing around one third of the region's gas power capacity, according to Kaluza.

The current number one Sabalenka ended Swiatek's WTA Finals campaign in the penultimate stage a year ago but lacked her usual lethal power in Cancun, as a flurry of forehand errors undermined her best efforts. The four-time major winner Swiatek wrested the momentum immediately when play resumed on Sunday, and broke Sabalenka's serve in the fourth game. The 22-year-old pumped her fists and cheered wildly as the Australian Open champion Sabalenka sent one into the net on match point. In the letter, the Senate Democrats argue past mergers that helped create Exxon and Chevron “enabled anticompetitive coordination” that hurt consumers by limiting supply of oil. “The oil-and-gas industry is still dominated by a handful of corporate giants, led by the top-two players Exxon and Chevron. A large Charged Lemonade contains 390 milligrams — nearly the 400-milligram daily maximum of caffeine that the Food and Drug Administration says healthy adults can safely consume. The legal complaint called Charged Lemonade a "dangerous energy drink" and argues that Panera failed to adequately warn consumers about its ingredients, which also include guarana extract, another stimulant. The caffeine content of Panera's Charged Lemonade has always been listed in-store, Panera said. Katz had gotten a large Charged Lemonade hours before she died, and had had at least one Charged Lemonade in the days prior, according to Victoria Rose Conroy, Katz's roommate and close friend. Most of Gaza’s water comes from local sources – but the fuel required to pump and clean it is fast running out. As the water system collapses, some Gazans have been forced to drink dirty, salty water, sparking concerns of a health crisis and fears that people could start dying from dehydration. Without it, Gaza’s water system has crumbled. Gaza’s fuel supplies could be exhausted in as little as 48 to 72 hours, Ghunaim, from the PWA, said on Monday. Even before the conflict, many experts were saying the water situation would be “catastrophic in the future,” Hall said.

A college student went into cardiac arrest and died after drinking a 'Charged Lemonade,' a lawsuit alleges. AdvertisementAdvertisementThe parents of an Ivy League student are suing Panera Bread, alleging that their daughter went into cardiac arrest and died several hours after drinking a "Charged Lemonade" from the chain. According to the lawsuit, Katz had lived with a heart condition called long QT syndrome type 1 since the age of 5 and stayed away from energy drinks. The legal complaint was filed in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas on Monday morning and it accuses Panera Bread of wrongful death. Panera's charged lemonade went viral on TikTok and X in December 2022 as consumers compared the drink to stimulants like Adderall.

Panera’s “Charged Lemonade” includes sugar, caffeine, coffee extract and guarana extract, which are both sources of caffeine. However, Katz was “reasonably confident it was a traditional lemonade and/or electrolyte sports drink containing a reasonable amount of caffeine safe for her to drink,” the lawsuit says, adding that Panera misled consumers by not properly labeling “Charged Lemonade” as an energy drink in stores. “Instead, Defendants market, advertise, and sell Panera Charged Lemonade as a product that is ‘Plant-based and Clean with as much caffeine as our Dark Roast Coffee,’” the lawsuit reads. However, in their stores, Panera does “not specify what size of Panera Dark Roast coffee is akin to a Panera Charged Lemonade,” making the comparison vague and “unhelpful.”Online, Panera says its “Charged Lemonade” has a comparable amount of caffeine to its Dark Roast coffee. “It’s a dangerous energy drink and it’s not advertised that way.

On Sept. 10, 2022, Katz purchased a charged lemonade from a Panera Bread in Philadelphia, according to the suit. It's an energy drink that has lemon flavor," said Elizabeth Crawford, a partner at Philadelphia-based law firm Kline & Specter, PC. The lawsuit alleges the charged lemonade is "defective in design because it is a dangerous energy drink." Conroy said Katz had bought at least one other charged lemonade in the days prior to her cardiac arrest. Katz's parents, who declined to speak about the lawsuit, are desperate for people to understand exactly what is in Panera's charged lemonade before they buy it, Crawford said.

Last winter, residential retail natural gas prices exceeded those of the previous 10 winters, the EIA said. And in the Northeast, which historically has had higher natural gas bills, the average household with natural gas heating is expected to pay $761, in contrast to $924 last winter. Biden announced $3.5 billion for 58 projects across the country to strengthen the electric grid. This is the largest federal investment ever made in grid infrastructure, said US Energy Secretary. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said it was the largest federal investment ever in grid infrastructure, supporting projects that will harden electric systems and improve energy reliability and affordability. The federal spending, combined with money promised by private partners, could result in up to $8 billion in investments nationally to upgrade the grid, Granholm said. Gasoline prices have been falling amid weakening seasonal demand, driving refinery margins lower. Gas prices were at $3.575 a gallon on Wednesday, according to AAA, down from $3.584 a day ago and $3.881 a week ago. AdvertisementAdvertisementAs winter approaches, it's chilling gasoline prices, too. Because gasoline is made from crude oil, anything that affects the crude oil markets tends to affect gas prices, just like it did when the Russia-Ukraine crisis hit last year. While Israel and Hamas are not major oil producers, an escalating conflict could drive crude oil prices higher, which would change the story for gas prices.
