CNN —Dave Chappelle’s representative is pushing back on a report that claimed “Saturday Night Live” writers were staging a boycott ahead of his hosting the show this weekend. On Wednesday, The New York Post, citing an anonymous source, reported writers on the show were going to sit out on the episode. “We’ve seen nothing to support media reports of a writer’s boycott,” Chappelle’s rep told CNN in a statement. Just as during Dave’s past ‘SNL’ appearances, you won’t want to miss it!”It will be Chappelle’s third time hosting. Most recently, 2021 Netflix special “The Closer” increased the ire after Chappelle said he was “team TERF,” the abbreviated term for “trans-exclusionary radical feminist.”“Gender is a fact,” Chappelle said during the special.
Having the ability to watch back a video with a voice that more closely aligns with their gender identity has been emotional, trans TikTok users told NBC News. “It’s not something I ever imagined I’d get to experience.”Some videos celebrating the voice feature have racked up millions of views. It’s unclear when the voice filter was added to the app. The benefit of having such a TikTok filter, Rose said, is that it can hopefully alleviate the gender dysphoria that some trans creators may feel. She said she hopes that TikTok might allow users to customize things such as pitch, tone and timbre of the voice filters in the future.
CNN —A Thai media tycoon and transgender rights advocate has bought the Miss Universe Organization for $20 million, according to her company, which will now host the international beauty pageant. In a joint statement, the CEO and president of the Miss Universe Organization said they were “excited to continue the evolution of the Miss Universe Organization with JKN.”“Our progressive approach continues to position us at the forefront of our industry,” they said. The purchase makes Jakkaphong the first woman owner of the Miss Universe Organization, according to the JKN news release. The Miss Universe beauty contest, one of the world’s most-watched pageants, has been running since 1952. And in 2019, the winners of five major pageants – Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss America, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA – were all women of color, a remarkable milestone given black women weren’t allowed to compete in Miss America until the 1940s, and the first black contestant didn’t take that stage until 30 years later.
This fall, Ross made history as the first trans woman to ever play a leading role on Broadway. He added that Ross’ debut in the long-running American musical “opens the door to full acceptance” for the transgender community. “Black theater artists are asking for white American theater to see us and consider us in producing work,” Jackson said. The Black Theatre Coalition said it aimed “to remove the ‘ILLUSION OF INCLUSION’ in the American Theatre,” by combating racism and providing more work opportunities for Black artists, according to the group’s mission statement. “I hope there’s an Angelica Ross backstage, whether that’s in stage management, whether that’s in front of the house,” he said.
Jamie Lee Curtis is opening up about the struggles her daughter and other members of the transgender community face on a daily basis. There are people that want to annihilate her, and people like her.”Curtis’ 26-year-old daughter, Ruby Guest, whom she shares with husband Christopher Guest, publicly came out as transgender in 2020. That is terrifying.”Referring to herself in the third person, she continued, “So Jamie Lee Curtis is scared, and you should be too.”The “Knives Out” star ended her response by encouraging people to speak out against transphobia. “Jamie Lee Curtis has a voice, and she’s trying to use it, and you should too,” she said. Curtis said there were “tears involved” after her daughter came out to her.
Strands for Trans, a campaign that maps transgender-friendly barbershops and salons, launched five years ago as stories of trans people facing discrimination in these spaces surfaced online. As the movement grows, organizers say they are seeking to expand to provide barbershops and salons with LGBTQ-inclusive classes and other educational materials to combat transphobia. … That’s our next evolution.”History of Strands for TransBarba owners Gomez and Xavier Cruz joined forces in June 2017 to launch Strands for Trans. We’re staying in these spaces.’”For Arana, the Strands for Trans initiative helped them identify inclusive workplaces where they could openly express their identity. “For anybody who is trans, especially trans youth, I would say don’t be afraid to do your research,” Arana said.
