Liz Cheney said Tuesday that she’s committed to doing what’s necessary to stop former President Donald Trump from returning to the White House, as she continues to mull a third-party presidential run in 2024. Throughout her book, Cheney detailed how she saw her Republican colleagues fall in line to support his claims of election fraud following the 2020 election. In one instance, Cheney recalls GOP members reluctantly signing their names on electoral vote objection sheets for the states Republicans were contesting. Cheney has split with the Republican Party during previous elections. She also crossed party lines to stump for two moderate Democrats in competitive House races last year.

CNN —Republican former Rep. Liz Cheney said she believes a GOP majority in the House in 2025 would present a “threat” to the country. “I believe very strongly in those principles and ideals that have defined the Republican Party, but the Republican Party of today has made a choice and they haven’t chosen the Constitution. And we have to ensure that we don’t have a situation where the election that might be thrown into the House of Representatives is overseen by a Republican majority,” she said. Two presidents have been selected by the House: Thomas Jefferson and John Quincy Adams. If Trump is the party’s nominee, Cheney has said she will leave the GOP.

Struggling to energize his campaign, DeSantis this week privately encouraged his donor network to support a newly formed super PAC that's taking over advertising responsibilities. The super PAC has also paid for the bulk of his TV ads and almost all of his organizing. On Aug. 8, the DeSantis campaign announced a staff shakeup, replacing its campaign manager and hiring Polyansky from the super PAC to serve as deputy campaign manager. Jim Jordan is expected to try a third vote to become House speaker, even as his Republican colleagues are explicitly warning the hard-edged ally of Donald Trump that no more threats or promises can win over their support. After two failed votes, Jordan's third attempt at the gavel is not expected to end any better. Jordan had backed the temporary speaker plan as a way to allow more time to shore up support in his own reach for the gavel. What this majority has done is prove it’s not a normal majority.”What was clear was that Jordan’s path to become House speaker was almost certainly collapsing. New York Attorney General Letitia James' office suggested Thursday that the Trump Organization failed to produce evidence in the $250 million fraud trial of Donald Trump and his company, citing a recent report accusing a key witness of lying under oath. The attorney general's suit accuses Trump, his sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, the Trump Organization and top executives of misstating the true values of properties to obtain tax advantages and better terms on loans and insurance. Wallace, in his letter, proposed that an independent monitor conduct a forensic review of electronic data held by the Trump Organization from August to September 2016. The alleged failure to produce those emails follows "multiple affidavits on behalf of the Trump Organization attesting to the completion of their production obligations," Wallace wrote. Weisselberg, who has been loyal to Trump, served jail time for tax fraud in a criminal case related to his work at the Trump Organization.
