The complaints, obtained by CNBC, were filed by nonprofit law firm Whistleblower Aid, which is representing Twitter's former head of security, Peiter "Mudge" Zatko. Whistleblower Aid, which also represented Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen, verified the authenticity of the documents with CNBC. A Twitter whistleblower is alleging "extreme, egregious deficiencies by Twitter" related to privacy, security and content moderation, according to complaints filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice. If government regulators were to find Twitter misled consumers about its security protocols, that may be considered a violation of its 2011 agreement with the FTC. At the time, Twitter was barred for 20 years from misleading consumers about how it protects their security and private information.
In this article AAPLiMessage in iOS 16 Todd Haselton | CNBCApple's new iOS 16 iPhone software, expected in September, will let you edit and unsend text messages for the first time. That means you'll be able to go back and correct a typo or delete a message if you sent it to the wrong person. You'll just need an iPhone released in 2017 or later. The person on the receiving end will see a note that you've edited the text but won't see the original message. Snap is pausing development of Pixy, its $230 flying camera drone that was first announced in April, according to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to speak on the record. The Pixy was introduced as a new way for Snapchat users to capture photos from unique angles. It's capable of launching from a user's hand and can follow four different flight paths, including one that follows the user. Snap, which calls itself a camera company on its website, has been trying to break into hardware, most notably through several iterations of Spectacles sunglasses with built-in cameras. The first version of Spectacles caused the company to take a nearly $40 million writedown in 2017 due to excess inventory.
Your iPhone has a useful feature you might not know about. You can identify the song that's playing on the radio at a bar, in your car or at a friend's house, all without having to open an app. All you have to do is swipe down and tap a single button. It's part of the iPhone's and iPad's integration with music-recognition service Shazam, which Apple acquired in 2018. It's been available for a couple of years but might be more useful now that people are out and about again.
In this article AAPLA new MacBook Air running M2 chip is seen displayed during Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, California, June 6, 2022. The 2022 MacBook Air offers the biggest redesign to the MacBook since 2010. What's goodApple typically sends a high-end MacBook Air for testing, but this year it sent me the entry-level $1,199 model. It's back to the tried-and-true version from that of the M1 MacBook Air. You don't need to upgrade if you have the M1 model, but it's definitely a big bump from the older Intel versions.
Apple CEO Tim Cook poses for a portrait next to a line of new MacBook Airs as he enters the Steve Jobs Theater during the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) at the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California on June 6, 2022 . Apple CEO Tim Cook recently gave the closest thing to a confirmation that Apple's building a headset. Cook was asked in a recent interview with China Daily USA what he thinks the key factors are for augmented reality, or AR, to succeed in the consumer market. AR or "mixed reality" describes technology that superimposes computer-generated images over views of the real world, contrasted with virtual reality, or VR, which completely immerses the viewer in a computer-generated world. It's one of the clearest examples yet of Cook acknowledging that Apple has something bigger in the works.
Apple's new 13-inch MacBook Pro with the next-generation M2 chip goes on sale Friday, June 17, and will begin arriving to customers and in stores on June 24. It's the first computer to launch with the M2 chip, which was announced during Apple's developer conference, WWDC, earlier this month. The new MacBook Air will also feature an M2 chip, but a release date for that computer hasn't been announced yet. Still, the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models can be configured with an M1 Pro or M1 Max chip and more storage, RAM, processing and graphics cores than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2, which means people who need even more power may be better off with those computers. Aside from the chip, the computer is otherwise largely unchanged from its predecessor.
Amazon said Monday it will begin to deliver products using Prime Air drones in Lockeford, California, later this year. It's the first time the company plans to use drones for customer deliveries in the United States. Walmart's drone delivery program is available to more than 4 million households in the U.S., for example. Amazon said the drone technology can detect and fly around obstacles like chimneys. The drone also makes sure there aren't people, animals or other obstacles at the delivery site, the company said.
