SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Christian McCaffrey scored a touchdown in his 12th straight game, Brock Purdy threw two TD passes and the San Francisco 49ers won their 13th straight regular season game, 30-12 over the New York Giants on Thursday night. They rallied to beat the Cardinals with a strong second half. Davidson (elbow) left in the second half.

If it feels like the Baltimore Orioles have accomplished something historic these past couple years, there are some numbers that back that up. That was the New York Giants, way back at the beginning of the modern era. But Baltimore, which clinched a playoff berth Sunday, could still join the Giants with an improvement of over .300. There's actually a Baltimore connection to those New York Giants. The Baltimore franchise then moved to New York and became the Highlanders, who would eventually be called the Yankees.

(AP) — Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua set the NFL single-game record for most receptions by a rookie with 15 catches for 147 yards in Sunday's 30-23 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Nacua broke the record with a 17-yard reception late in the fourth quarter. Nacua, a fifth-round pick out of BYU, also became the first rookie to have double-digit receptions in his first two games. He had 10 receptions for 119 yards in last week's 30-13 win at Seattle. Nacua's 25 receptions are also a new overall league mark for a rookie in his first two games.

CNN —Week 1 of the new NFL season is in books and there are no shortage of talking points. This year’s influx of rookies made their first steps in the NFL over the weekend with varying success. Most notably was the serious-looking injury suffered by Aaron Rodgers on his New York Jets debut on Monday Night Football. It is the second serious injury Dobbins has suffered in his short NFL career after he tore his ACL, ruling him out of the 2021 season entirely. The shutout loss was the largest between the teams, topping the Cowboys' 35-0 win over the Giants in 1995, also in a season-opener in the Meadowlands. On any given Sunday, there will be more National Football League games available on streaming services than ever before — some even exclusively. The NFL season kicks off Thursday with the Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Detroit Lions. Google's YouTube TV and the NFL's streaming service will also become bigger players in the streaming game. When media giants signed NFL media rights deals in 2021, valued at more than $100 billion, more of those deals included the rights to streaming games. Plus, in this past year, the NFL sold the media rights to its "Sunday Ticket" to Google 's YouTube TV for about $2 billion annually, shifting access to the package of out-of-market games to a streaming-only audience.

New York CNN —Dan and Tanya Snyder agreed to sell the Washington Commanders franchise to a group led by Josh Harris on Friday, according to a statement from from the team and the investment group. The group also includes NBA legend Magic Johnson as well as Mitchell Rales, the billionaire co-founder of conglomerate Danaher. Harris’ ownership groups include Johnson and billionaire Mitch Rales, Harris’ longtime sports business partner. Snyder first purchased the team, which was then known as the Washington Redskins, for a reported $750 million in 1999. The only franchises from other sports worth more than that $5.6 billion estimated value are the New York Yankees and New York Knicks.
Roundup: Giants pick up fifth-year option on LT Andrew Thomas
  + stars: | 2023-05-02 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
May 2 - The New York Giants exercised the fifth-year option for left tackle Andrew Thomas on Tuesday. Thomas has played in 45 games (44 starts) since being selected by the Giants with the fourth overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. The deadline to pick up fifth-year options is Tuesday. 27 overall pick in 2020, Brooks led the NFL with 109 solo tackles in 2021 and finished sixth with 161 total tackles in 2022. --The Kansas City Chiefs are declining the fifth-year option for running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, multiple outlets reported.
CNN —Heading into the NFL Draft, there’s always one prospect coming out of college who everyone becomes infatuated with, despite not being the finished article. This year’s golden boy is Anthony Richardson and, in his unique case, he’s impressed at every stage of the process. Richardson ran the fastest 40-yard dash time of all quarterbacks, as well as jumping the highest and furthest at the Combine. With potentially nine picks in the opening 12 being held by quarterback-needy teams, Richardson could be finding a new home anywhere across the league. David Rosenblum/Icon Sportswire/Getty ImagesIt means that Richardson has just 13 career college starts to his name entering the draft.
Deal close for Washington Commanders football team

If finalized, the sale would mark the end of the controversial ownership of the Washington franchise by embattled billionaire Daniel Snyder. News of the near deal was first reported by Sportico, which reported the team sold for $6 billion, a record for a North American sports franchise. Snyder purchased the team, then named the Washington Redskins for a reported $750 million in 1999. It adopted the Commanders name last year, after playing two seasons with the name Washington Football Team. “Today marks the end of a long, difficult chapter for all employees and fans of the Washington football organization,” read a statement from Lisa Banks and Debra Katz, two attorneys representing more than 40 former Washington Commanders employees.
Before he left football to sell Pokémon cards, ex-NFL linebacker Blake Martinez made millions tackling people. Over the course of his six-year professional career, Martinez amassed more than $28 million in earnings, even co-leading the league in tackles in 2017. He chose the cards, launching his company Blake's Breaks in July 2022 and committing to it full-time in November. Over the past seven months, it's brought in more than $5 million in revenue on collectible reselling platform Whatnot, according to documents reviewed by CNBC Make It. "I think there's more to my success than [my name]," Martinez tells CNBC Make It.

A tweet sharing the video said: “UFO BREAKING: REAL ALIEN SPACECRAFT CAPTURED ON HIGHWAY” (here). CBS 8 San Diego aired a closer view of the Goodyear blimp at the time, acknowledging that residents confused the blimp for a UFO (here). In 2018, an alleged UFO sighting turned out to be a Goodyear blimp covering a NASCAR race, according to news reports at the time (here) and (here). The object in the video is a Goodyear blimp in New Jersey in 2020, not a recent UFO sighting.
Tom Brady Retires: The Revised Edition

Tom Brady of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is retiring from football. His seven Super Bowl titles are more than any single organization has won. He was twice foiled in the Super Bowl by the New York Giants. Brady racked up yardage but Tampa Bay fired its offensive coordinator, Byron Leftwich. Look again, though, at the piercing final play from that game: A 30-yard Rams field goal, the ball snapped from the Tampa Bay 12-yard line.
There are no shortage of storylines: Kansas City coach Andy Reid goes against his old team — which he led to Super Bowl 39 — in a game that’s also the first matchup of Black starting quarterbacks in the Super Bowl with Mahomes and Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts. This was their fifth straight trip to the AFC title game and will be their third Super Bowl appearance in that span. The Eagles clobbered the Niners 31-7 in the NFC title game earlier Sunday. Philadelphia is back in the Super Bowl five years after beating the New England Patriots 41-33 on Feb. 4, 2018. Now a mostly new generation of Eagles — led by coach Nick Sirianni and Hurts — will come to Arizona to try and win another title.
Shortly after Brian Daboll was hired as the head coach of the New York Giants last year, he reached out to the one person whose unique wisdom could help him turn around his team. Former Duke coach David Cutcliffe, a quarterback guru who once molded Peyton and Eli Manning in college, had helped turn the Blue Devils’ Daniel Jones into an improbable top draft prospect before the Giants took him in the first round four years ago. After Jones struggled in his first few years in the NFL, unlocking his potential became Daboll’s top task—which is why he peppered Cutcliffe with questions about the young quarterback he inherited.
Martinez, 29, retired from the NFL in November 2022 to trade Pokémon cards. I first got involved with Pokémon cards when I was 6. We ended up doing a box break on Whatnot, and we turned $50,000 worth of Pokémon cards into $108,000 in that first show. That's what I try to tell the team — you're in control on that screen. cards, sports cards, shoes, and clothes.

Decades from now, mystified scientists will gather to study the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, to try to figure out what they were all about—if they existed to compete in football, or merely to psychologically torment a population of loyal, long-suffering fans. Tests will be run; helmets will be carbon-dated; archaeologists and academics will scour the ruins of old Twin Cities stadia. Brainy lab coats will review those regular-season box scores and heartbreaking playoff collapses, the fact that a 13-4 team could be quite statistically terrible, and ask a simple, probing question:
