Two days before the "House of the Dragon" finale aired last fall, the episode was leaked online. The mysterious case of the leaked "House of the Dragon" finale is one step closer to being solved — and the alleged hacker's cat helped tipped off authorities. Last October, two days before the "Game of Thrones" spin-off's series finale was set to air, the episode was leaked to pirating sites. Despite the leak, "House of the Dragon" was quite succesfull with 9.3 million viewers tuning into the series finale legally. That made it HBO's most-watched finale since the "Game of Thrones" finale in 2019, per Variety.
Ron DeSantis, the Florida governor and a likely contender for the Republican presidential nomination, expressed strong support for Israel during a brief visit to Jerusalem on Thursday, as he promoted his diplomatic credentials in a country considered crucial to any U.S. president’s foreign policy portfolio. Mr. DeSantis declined once again to confirm his candidacy for the presidential race in 2024, but he used a speech and subsequent news briefing to showcase his experience and interest in Israeli affairs, an issue that his chief rival, Donald J. Trump, once made his own. The governor, a foreign policy novice, stressed his track record of support for Israel and for Floridian Jews, highlighting his efforts to combat antisemitism in Florida and build business ties between his state and Israel. “Maintaining a strong U.S.-Israel relationship has been a priority for me during my time in elective office,” Mr. DeSantis said in speech at a conference hosted by The Jerusalem Post, a right-leaning English-language newspaper. The event was attended by leading right-wing figures, including David M. Friedman, who was Mr. Trump’s ambassador to Israel; and Miriam Adelson, a longtime Israeli American supporter of Mr. Trump.
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he would ‘meet with every American representative, governor, senator, members of Congress. And I think it’s my job.’ Photo: Menahem Kahana/POOL AFP/Associated PressIsrael Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday he would be willing to meet with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis , an expected 2024 GOP presidential candidate, during the governor’s visit to Israel scheduled for later this month. Mr. DeSantis, who once vowed to be the most “pro-Israel Governor in America” will be making his second trip there as governor on April 27 to deliver the keynote address at the Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem, according to an announcement from the museum and The Jerusalem Post.
While in Israel, DeSantis will also keynote an event hosted by The Jerusalem Post and the Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem. The trip will spotlight DeSantis’ foreign policy credentials as he inches toward a White House bid. DeSantis’ predecessor, now-US Sen. Rick Scott, embarked on more than a dozen trade missions during his tenure as governor. Eleven Florida Republicans have endorsed Trump over DeSantis so far – including seven last week. State lawmakers have also balked at a provision in DeSantis’ immigration package that would eliminate in-state tuition for undocumented residents.
Russia's economic data is full of 'lies and distortions,' economist Alexei Bayer wrote. "Russian economic statistics are a collection of lies and distortions," he wrote in the Jerusalem Post. But those estimates are based on official data from the Russian government, said Bayer, who pointed to consumer inflation numbers. "During the Cold War, the CIA concluded, using Soviet statistics, that the Soviet Union had the world's second-largest economy," he wrote. "When communism collapsed, Russia's economy turned out to be not much larger than Portugal's."
The trip, which is being billed by DeSantis’ office as a trade mission, follows a longstanding tradition for Republicans seeking the White House but comes at a particularly volatile moment. “At a time of unnecessarily strained relations between Jerusalem and Washington, Florida serves as a bridge between the American and Israeli people,” DeSantis said in the release. As Florida's governor, DeSantis has vowed to be a staunch ally of Israel and led a trade delegation there in 2019. The White House said it had no comment on DeSantis’ plans, while maintaining administration officials have been regularly in touch with the Israeli government during the crisis. DeSantis is widely expected to enter the 2024 race once the Florida Legislature concludes its current session in early May.
(Photo by HAZEM BADER / AFP) (Photo by HAZEM BADER/AFP via Getty Images)Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday agreed to suspend a planned judiciary reform until the next parliament session after nationwide protests paralyzed the country. Netanyahu agreed with one of his hard-right coalition partners, Itamar Ben-Gvir, that the judiciary overhaul bill would be given an extension to the next session to pass the reform through negotiations, NBC reported. As part of the agreement, a National Guard will be set up under Ben-Gvir's Ministry of National Security. The latest development indicates Netanyahu has not yet given up on the contentious reform bill, despite huge protests and widespread strikes. The prime minister — who is the longest-serving in Israel's history — was expected to announce a pause to the legislation on Monday, but the delivery of his statement was postponed three times, according to the Jerusalem Post.
Reserve pilots in a top Israeli air force squadron are boycotting training in an anti-government protest. Thirty-seven of the 40 reserve pilots in Israeli Air Force's 69th Squadron joined the protests by refusing to attend pre-scheduled training this week, the Jerusalem Post reports. The 69th Squadron is one of Israel's most prestigious air force units, according to Haaretz. The Israel reserve is 465,00-strong, and the mandatory service is part of the national ethos. Critics of this plan by Netanyahu's right-wing government say that this will weaken Israel's courts, and reduce civil liberties, per Reuters.
Palestinians living in Lebanese refugee camps are being recruited to fight for Russia in Ukraine. The Jerusalem Post reported that some 300 refugees have already been deployed. The majority of Palestinians being deployed to Ukraine come from the largest Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon, Ein El Hilweh Camp, the report said. But it is known that Russia has previously recruited Syrian volunteers to fight in Ukraine. Riad Kahwaji, a Dubai-based security analyst, told The Media Line that Russia recruiting Palestinian refugees to fight in Ukraine wouldn't be surprising.
Rep. George Santos hid from constituents who tried to deliver a petition to him on Wednesday. A staffer told the group that Santos was in the building but added that he refused to meet with a "mob," according to the paper. Santos' office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Last week, they traveled to Capitol Hill to call for the expulsion of their congressman, according to The Jerusalem Post. In January, it emerged that constituents' calls to his office were being routed to another GOP congressman, as Newsday first reported.
Isaac Herzog, the Israeli president, delivered a speech partly-written by ChatGPT on Wednesday. Herzog opened his speech with an intro written by ChatGPT. He then ended the speech with a ChatGPT generated "inspirational quote" about AI. During his speech, Herzog also emphasized that AI will not replace humans, despite using it to write part of it. The president also used ChatGPT to end his speech with an "inspirational quote," Sky News reported.
Former President Donald Trump accused evangelical leaders of disloyalty for not yet endorsing him in 2024. Evangelical Christian leaders appear to be holding back on supporting Trump for the GOP nomination. In October, Trump praised evangelicals for being more "appreciative" of his work than American Jews. During an interview on the right-wing fringe network Real America's Voice, Trump was asked about the lack of endorsements from evangelical leaders for his 2024 presidential campaign. In 2021, Trump also told an Israeli journalist that "evangelical Christians love Israel more than the Jews in this country."

Russia's former president called for hypersonic missiles to be put close to Washington, DC. Dmitry Medvedev lashed out after US officials said the Ukraine war is not "worthy" of Russians. Hypersonic missiles are exceptionally fast, and can travel on an unpredictable flight path, making them harder to intercept with traditional air defense systems. The 405-mile-long Potomac River passes through Washington, D.C., the seat of the US federal government. On Wednesday, Russia announced that it was sending its Admiral Gorshkov warship, armed with Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles, on a long-range voyage that would pass through the Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, and Mediterranean Sea.

Evangelical Christians who supported former President Donald Trump appear to be turning on him. "The average evangelical Christian is a faith-based person. Donald Trump does not personify biblical values. In an essay sent to The Washington Post, Evans accused Trump of using evangelical support to propel him to the presidency. In the article, Piper said: "The take-home of this past week is simple: Donald Trump has to go.
Reuters —Paris-born actor and singer Robert Clary, who survived 31 months in Nazi concentration camps but later co-starred in “Hogan’s Heroes,” the US sitcom set in a German World War II prisoner of war (POW) camp, has died at the age of 96. “Hogan’s Heroes” starred Bob Crane as American Colonel Robert Hogan, with Richard Dawson, Larry Hovis and Ivan Dixon playing other POWs. “Hogan’s Heroes” was popular with TV viewers during its run on the CBS network and for decades afterward in syndication even though some critics considered it in bad taste. In 1980, alarm over people trying to deny the Holocaust prompted Clary to end his self-imposed silence about his experiences. He also wrote an autobiography, “From the Holocaust to Hogan’s Heroes.”“We must learn from history,” Clary told the Reno Gazette-Journal in 2002, “which we don’t.”
Russians fleeing Putin's military draft have left via car, train, plane, and less frequently, by boat. All but two Russians known to have sailed into South Korea to avoid the draft have been denied entry. A South Korean lawmaker told NBC News the country must create "dedicated procedures" for those fleeing the conflict. Russia and South Korea have an agreement allowing citizens to enter for up to 90 days visa-free, according to the Korea Herald. "South Korea is already a country that accepts very few refugees," he said.
