Unlike fellow elites, Cuban doesn't own a luxury yacht, but he still makes pricey purchases. Billionaire businessman Mark Cuban doesn't want to let his financial status change him, and he's gone out of his way to maintain a normal life. However, on an episode of "The Really Good Podcast," Cuban said he avoids certain habits that are associated with the exorbitantly rich. "I just try to be the same person, I mean, as I was when I was poor, middle, and rich," Cuban told podcast host Bobbi Althoff. "I like the privacy," Cuban said.

U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni in Manhattan federal court also sentenced him to pay $2.5 million in restitution to the NBA Players' Health and Welfare Benefit Plan, and forfeit $653,673, in accordance with his plea agreement. Prosecutors had sought a 10- to 12-year prison term, while Williams sought no more than 50 months. He was also accused of impersonating a health plan manager who questioned a reimbursement in order to "frighten" another player, who had not paid a kickback, into re-engaging with him. Prosecutors said at least $5 million of false claims were submitted, with the defendants receiving $2.5 million in fraudulent proceeds. Prosecutors recommended a prison term shorter than 21 months, citing his acceptance of responsibility and desire to make amends.

Mark Cuban believes he became a billionaire because he's been hustling and selling since childhood. Cuban recently bragged about his 13-year-old son Jake's side hustle selling candy at school on an episode of comedian Kevin Hart's Peacock talk show "Hart to Heart." "He's hustling and selling stuff all of the time," Cuban said in the interview, adding that Jake is tracking and organizing his efforts, too. "He shows me his spreadsheet because he's buying candy and selling it at school," Cuban told Hart, chuckling. Hart noted that Cuban must have been "mind-blown" to see his son taking a candy side hustle so seriously.

"Early on in my career, I wanted to prove how smart I was and so I did a lot more talking than listening," Cuban said. At the time, Cuban says he was sleeping on the floor of a three-bedroom apartment with six roommates in Dallas. The desire to prove himself sometimes led Cuban to be "too cocky," he says, which could rub people the wrong way. The cable services company wanted to move Cuban's company HDNet, a high-definition TV provider, to a higher price tier. Cuban didn't like the deal and consequently sued DirecTV.

Mark Cuban recently appeared on the a16z podcast "Bio Eats World" to talk about healthcare. Cuban believes healthcare systems need to adopt more of a "Netflix model" to "truly work." Mark Cuban has been disrupting healthcare with his low-cost online pharmacy, but there are other areas of the industry that can be improved upon too, he believes. Cuban believes that this model, in some ways, can also be applied to a local hospital or healthcare system. "If we're going to change healthcare," Cuban said.

A Week With the Wild Children of the A.I. Boom

Maybe in a few decades from now, we’ll look back at all these seminal A.I. As two analysts at N.E.A., an investment firm, put it in a recent report, generative A.I. But with large language models, incumbents like Google and Microsoft have had a huge head start in both developing the technology and acquiring market share among consumers. Moreover, the capital-intensive nature of training large language models means that smaller companies like OpenAI and Anthropic creating their own large language models have few alternatives beyond making Faustian “partnerships” with tech giants. Beyond the incumbents, one beneficiary might well be the indie hacker, the kind of coder for hire who does niche A.I.

CNN —The Miami Heat closed out the Boston Celtics in the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals on Monday, winning a deciding Game 7 103-84 to advance to the NBA Finals against the Denver Nuggets. This brought the Heat and the Celtics together in the Eastern Conference Finals. Back-to-back blowouts meant that Boston took the series back to Miami for Game 6 – the most crucial game of the series so far.
Mark Cuban always tries to push himself out of his comfort zone, so it's no surprise that he does the same for others. Cynt Marshall, CEO of the Dallas Mavericks, experienced it firsthand when Cuban cold-called her with a job offer in 2018, she recently told LinkedIn's The Path newsletter. Second, she said: "I was well aware of the fact that I did not know the business of basketball." In response, Cuban gave Marshall some simple yet effective advice, she recounted: "He said, 'You don't worry about that. Prior to her appointment, the Mavericks had no women or people of color in leadership, LinkedIn noted.
game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks on March 17, Hasbulla Magomedov got the full celebrity treatment. He chatted pregame with the Mavericks star Luka Doncic, who posed with him for a photo. When Hasbulla’s face appeared on the Jumbotron, the crowd went wild. And, like everyone who’s anyone, he sat courtside at the Staples Center, with one major difference: He was perched on his friend’s lap. Hasbulla, 20, is a little over three feet tall, and it gave him a better view of the action.
The Dallas Mavericks were fined $750,000 by the N.B.A. on Friday for playing a weakened lineup in a game in an effort to miss the postseason and hang on to a first-round draft pick. The Mavericks sat out five of their best players for their second-to-last game of the season, against the Chicago Bulls on April 7. The remaining Mavericks lost the game, 115-112, and were eliminated from a chance to qualify for a play-in game. “It’s not so much waving the white flag,” Coach Jason Kidd told reporters after the game.
April 14 (Reuters) - The National Basketball Association fined the Dallas Mavericks $750,000 on Friday for resting multiple players during a game last week that had draft implications and while they were not mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. The NBA said Dallas violated the player resting policy and demonstrated through actions and public statements a desire to lose the contest in order to improve their chances of keeping their first-round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. "The Dallas Mavericks' decision to restrict key players from fully participating in an elimination game last Friday against Chicago undermined the integrity of our sport," NBA Executive Vice President Joe Dumars said in a news release. A lottery to determine the final order for the June 22 draft will be held on May 16. Reporting by Frank Pingue in Toronto Editing by Toby DavisOur Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.

Luka Doncic’s posture made his words redundant. He slumped in his chair, hung his head and, with the fingers of his immensely talented right hand, tapped irritated rhythms on the podium. “Sometimes I don’t feel it’s me, I’m just being out there.” Doncic said. “I used to have fun, smiling on the court.”

Mark Cuban typically only invests in companies if he can see himself — or his NBA team, the Dallas Mavericks — using their products. On Friday's episode of ABC's "Shark Tank," he made an exception on behalf of his two daughters and his wife, making a $400,000 investment deal with San Francisco-based makeup company Youthforia. Robert Herjavec said he didn't understand what made the product unique, and Lori Greiner said she didn't use oil-based makeup. That's when Cuban came back in, saying he'd offer $400,000 for 10% without a royalty deal, because his daughters and wife would "understand" the product. O'Leary, growing frustrated, said he'd give $400,000 for 7.5%, but wanted a 75-cent royalty until he made $1 million.

The Brooklyn Nets have agreed to a blockbuster trade sending All-NBA forward Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns, completing the near-overnight teardown of the failed superteam that it built hoping to dominate the NBA for years. The deal, coming just days after Brooklyn traded Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks, shakes up the league hours ahead of Thursday afternoon’s trade deadline. The Suns are sending Brooklyn a trio of forwards in return—Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and dynamic defender Mikal Bridges—in addition to four first-round picks and a pick swap in 2028. The Suns also receive forward T.J. Warren. The trade was first reported by ESPN and The Athletic.
