While school meal prices vary throughout the country, a survey conducted by the School Nutrition Association, a trade organization, found that lunches typically cost about $2.83 for elementary school students, $3 for middle school students and $3.05 for high school students. A rare strong earthquake struck near Midland, Texas, on Monday evening, triggering more than 1,000 reports of shaking, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The USGS received more than 1,400 reports of shaking. People as far away as Fort Worth — 282 miles east — and Austin — 322 miles southeast — reported feeling the earthquake. Ackerly is about 60 miles north of Midland. The USGS says that fracking can be linked to a small percentage of earthquakes and that more are attributable to wastewater disposal.

New York AP —A New York woman is challenging the longstanding rules of Miss America and Miss World that disqualify mothers from their beauty pageants. A spokesperson for the human rights commission said the agency does not comment on open investigations. Didusenko, who has since created an organization advocating for an end to beauty pageant bans on mothers, said she lost her legal challenge in Ukraine but is seeking relief from the European Court of Human Rights.
