A viral image showing basketball star LeBron James in a pink outfit was created with AI-based tool Midjourney. While some users were able to discern the image was created with artificial intelligence (AI), others did not. “LeBron James setting a bad example for our Lil boys and money ain't everything,” said one post (bit.ly/3Qi247r). Reuters traced the image of James to Midjourney's Discord, on a channel called “#Newbies-185” (ibb.co/cyDNLb7). Representatives for Midjourney and James did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The Federal Reserve is widely expected to boost interest rates by another quarter percentage point Wednesday afternoon – and that's terrific news for fixed income investors hoping to grab a little more yield. Since March 2022, the central bank has raised rates 10 times – with July's expected hike marking the 11 th increase – to cool inflation. Consider that during the week of March 11, 2022, the rate on the 2-year Treasury note was 1.75%, according to Refinitiv. Investors who wish to squeeze a little more interest income from their cash holdings have opted for Treasury bills, with the 6-month bill yielding 5.5%. By buying multiple notes of different maturities, investors can "ladder" these Treasurys and reinvest the proceeds from maturing bonds into longer-dated issues.

In April, alongside its first-quarter results, J & J raised its full-year sales guidance by about $1 billion and its earnings-per-share outlook by 15 cents. Clearing this overhang would help reduce the discount at which J & J shares to pharmaceutical peers, the firm said. The Club's take: JPMorgan's thinking on J & J aligns quite closely with our own. The dark cloud of talc lawsuits continues to keep a lid on J & J's stock price. Our four industrial-focused stocks — Caterpillar (CAT), Emerson Electric (EMR), Honeywell (HON) and Linde (LIN) — have all been gaining steam over the past three months. There are positive short-term catalysts for our industrial holdings including the U.S. government's commitment to infrastructure spending, global decarbonization initiatives, and industrial automation. For all these reasons, Jim said EMR stock has been "stuck in the mud." EMR stock also pays a healthy 2.5% annual dividend yield and is a real dividend aristocrat. The Club's take: Jim expects Honeywell's stock to go higher from here as the market broadens beyond a handful of tech stocks.

In the early 20 th century, farmers across the Great Plains harnessed new technology to cash in on a huge demand for wheat. But over-farming led to the removal of prairie grasses which had kept the topsoil in place. For years, the region was bombarded by monster dust storms called "black blizzards" that sometimes buried entire houses in grit. During the 1930s, after an intensive period of over-farming, dust storms regularly wreaked havoc, blanketing towns and farms in grit, destroying crops and making people sick. The drought and storms led to one of the largest mass migrations in a short period of time in US history.

And Schumer wrote on Twitter on Wednesday that "Senate Republicans talk a big game about helping working families. Sen. Of that, about $102,000 went to Campaign Now, the firm started by Mr. Connors, and another $112,000 to companies where Mr. Connors, Mr. Maichle or Mr. Lewis was either the owner or a partner, tax records show. Here are stocks that win when inflation slows

Inflation moderated a tad in April, and so stocks that win historically when inflation eases could be big winners ahead if that trend continues. The easing in inflation could give a boost to stocks that have historically tracked the opposite direction of rising prices, according to Bank of America analysis. The Wall Street firm created an "Anti-Inflation" screen with S & P 500 companies whose relative performance has a strong negative relationship — or beta — with inflation. Amazon is on the top of the list with the strongest negative relationship to inflation. Consumer staples should also benefit from easing inflation, including Clorox and Kroger , which have historically moved in opposite direction to inflation.

The last "Tucker Carlson Tonight" episode aired on Fox News on Friday, April 21. Carlson's final show covered Hunter Biden, racist home appraisals, inclusive Mother's Day cards, and pizza. The Fox News host seemed to have no idea Friday would be his last time helming "Tucker Carlson Tonight." Carlson also spent time covering immigration, fentanyl, the casting of "Queen Cleopatra", inclusive Mother's Day cards, and the Pentagon leak. His final words on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" before digging into another bite of pizza were: "We'll be back on Monday.
Stocks have been churning in a narrow channel on low volume for weeks, the S & P 500 about flat on Friday, flat for the week and barely changed this month. Yet rather than finding comfort in the gentle action anchored to familiar price levels, investors are generally frustrated or confused by it. As Bespoke Investment Group summed it up after Friday's close, "For all the talk about whether we're in a new bull market or still stuck in a bear, at this point it seems like neither. All but one of the prior 13 instances saw the S & P 500 higher six and 12 months later (beyond the initial six-month period). This is an organic insulator of S & P 500 volatility.
Toxic PFAS, aka "forever chemicals," are in water, food, furniture, and clothes across the US. The EPA's new proposal to limit the substances in drinking water is a step in the right direction. On Tuesday the US Environmental Protection Agency proposed strict limits on six per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water. The chemicals are prolific in everyday human environments — in our water, food, air, and even the dust in our homes. That means more and more of them are getting into the environment — and drinking water — every day.
Hazardous "forever chemicals" called PFAS are in most Americans' blood, and they don't break down. One simple chart shows how long PFAS last in human bodies, compared to substances like caffeine or lead. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a class of thousands of human-made chemicals, which are likely in your food, water, clothes, and furniture. "Once they get into your body, they stick around for a really, really long time," Carmen Messerlian, an environmental epidemiologist who studies PFAS at Harvard's TH Chan School of Public Health, told Insider. That research tells us how long PFAS can linger in our blood, compared to toxic heavy metals or everyday substances like caffeine.
The US Environmental Protection Agency just released a proposal for enforceable standards for six PFAS compounds in drinking water. The new EPA proposal would set the threshold for those two substances at 4 nanograms per liter of drinking water. It also proposes a "hazard index" to set a limit on the combined quantity of four other PFAS in drinking water: PFNA, GenX, PFBS, and PFHxS. Communities across the US have especially high PFAS contamination in their drinking water, often due to a nearby industrial or military facility. "You can't just regulate in drinking water, without addressing the other side," Sunderland said, adding that you have to "turn off the source."
Internal messages show how Fox News anchors privately mocked 2020 election conspiracy theories. Dominion, an elections technology company, filed a defamation lawsuit against Fox News in March 2021, accusing the media company of spreading conspiracy theories that claimed Dominion helped rig the 2020 election results. "It's dangerously insane these conspiracy theories," Fox reporter Lucas Tomlinson said to Bret Baier, host of Special Report. A search through FoxNews.com turns up zero recent stories regarding the Dominion lawsuit. "That is an actual threat to democracy and it points up the core problem which is we're not really very serious about democracy if we're using electronic voting machines," Carlson said.
New York CNN —Andrews McMeel Universal, the company that syndicates “Dilbert,” said it is cutting ties with the comic strip’s creator, Scott Adams, after his racist remarks about Black Americans led hundreds of newspapers across the country to drop the satirical cartoon. The USA Today Network, which operates hundreds of newspapers, said it had pulled the plug on the long-running comic strip. The Washington Post and The Plain Dealer also in Cleveland said they would no longer carry the comic. “If nearly half of all Blacks are not OK with White people – according to this poll, not according to me, according to th is poll – that’s a hate group,” Adams said Wednesday on his YouTube show “Real Coffee with Scott Adams.”“I don’t want to have anything to do with them,” Adams added. “And I would say, based on the current way things are going, the best advice I would give to White people is to get the hell away from Black people, just get the f**k away … because there is no fixing this.”
The USA Today Network, which operates hundreds of newspapers, said it had pulled the plug on the long-running comic strip. The move came after Scott Adams, the cartoonist behind “Dilbert,” effectively encouraged segregation in a shocking rant on YouTube. The newspapers that have cut the comic strip have been clear with readers. “Scott Adams, creator of the Dilbert comic strip, went on a racist rant this week … and we will no longer carry his comic strip in The Plain Dealer,” wrote Chris Quinn, editor of the paper. “In light of Scott Adams’s recent statements promoting segregation, The Washington Post has ceased publication of the Dilbert comic strip,” it said.
US Army soldiers found themselves situated near Russian weapons contractors at an expo in Abu Dhabi. At one point, the Russians came over to the US booth and played with Javelins, a Breaking Defense report said. These weapons have been used by Ukraine to strike Russian tanks on the battlefield. At least one of the Russians even picked up a Javelin, an anti-tank missile system that the US military has sent to Ukraine and has been used to destroy Russian tanks. US and Russian troops crossed paths last October in Syria, where they shook hands, exchanged patches, and even posed for photographs together.

On Monday, federal prosecutors raised concerns over Sam Bankman-Fried's use of a VPN on two occasions. They told the judge how VPNs could let him access international crypto exchanges or the dark web. Prosecutors also worried that VPNs would let him access international crypto exchanges or the dark web. Bankman-Fried's FTX was one of four crypto companies to have ads during last year's Super Bowl, but this year there were none. "The defense is prepared to adopt a reasonable bail condition that allays any concerns," Bankman-Fried's lawyers told the judge, adding that he won't use a VPN "in the interim."
