Some companies expect AI to be an ultimate solution, but it doesn't work like that, he said. Generative AI programs, like ChatGPT, have been used by individuals for school, business, and more. For Lightcap, the most overhyped aspect of AI is that it can completely transform a business "in one fell swoop." Morgan Stanley predicts that AI tools will increase earnings for jobs across industries by at least $83 million by 2030. The Waupun, Green Bay and Stanley prisons have been under lockdown for months as the state grapples with deteriorating buildings and a worker shortage. And at Green Bay, only rules related to visitation and recreation time remain suspended. There were two suicides at the Green Bay prison between 2019 and 2022, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. A group of Waupun inmates filed a federal lawsuit in Milwaukee in October alleging that the prison's conditions amounted to cruel and unusual punishment. The prisons in Waupun and Green Bay were both built in the 1800s and need significant physical upgrades.

Persistent inflationary pressures have led to depressed levels of consumer spending all year, according to Bank of America. Consumers are still spending — in fact, they're spending more than they are earning — as employment levels and hourly wage growth remain fairly strong . Some analysts see an opportunity to pick up shares of battered-down retail stocks. According to Barclay's Yih, spending levels "almost have to be worse" next year. LPL's Roach similarly expects consumers spending to hit a roadblock in the coming months.

Pick, 54, joined Morgan Stanley in 1990 and rose through the ranks in its investment banking and trading businesses, most recently serving as a co-president overseeing those units. In an interview, he said he hadn’t found out that he would be named chief executive until around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, when the bank’s board of directors called him into a meeting and welcomed him with a standing ovation. He stands to inherit a very different bank from the one Mr. Gorman took over after the 2008 financial crisis. The power struggle was captured in “Blue Blood and Mutiny: The Fight for the Soul of Morgan Stanley,” by the journalist Patricia Beard. Morgan Stanley hiked its rating on Netflix following the streaming giant's stellar earnings report, seeing the shares potentially rising 20% on strong revenue growth. The Wall Street firm's analyst Benjamin Swinburne upgraded Netflix to overweight from equal weight Thursday, while raising his 12-month price target to $475. Netflix's subscriber growth was driven by a password-sharing crackdown efforts and interest in its new ad-supported tier. The analyst's bull case for Netflix in the most optimistic scenario calls for a $550 price target, or 40% upside. For the bear case, the analyst sees Netflix shares falling as low as $300, or 25% downside.

REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOct 18 (Reuters) - Morgan Stanley's (MS.N) third-quarter profit dropped less than expected as a strong performance in the bank's wealth management division offset a hit from lethargic dealmaking. The wealth management business, which has been a bright spot for Morgan Stanley in recent quarters, has reduced the lender's reliance on trading and investment banking, which are largely tied to economic cycles. "Our equity and fixed income businesses navigated markets well, and both wealth and investment management produced higher revenues." INVESTMENT BANKING WEAKNESSTotal revenue from investment banking fell 27% to $938 million, as global mergers and acquisitions activity showed few signs of improvement.

Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman plans to retire by May 2024. "Cross-pollinating key leaders across our major businesses further knits the Morgan Stanley culture," Gorman wrote in a memo at the time. Morgan Stanley, which was the lead underwriter, had to step in to prop up the stock. In 2010, Morgan Stanley was picked as one of two lead underwriters — the other being JPMorgan — for the IPO of General Motors. With Morgan Stanley at the top of its game, breaking up this well-oiled team could be disastrous.

Broadcom (AVGO), Caterpillar (CAT) and Eli Lilly (LLY) are among the 15 Club stocks with a streak of annual dividend growth that Wall Street expects to continue in their current fiscal years. Long-term investors should look to own companies with a history of dividend growth instead of chasing stocks with high yields, Morgan Stanley strategists said in a note to clients this week. However, Morgan Stanley's note made us curious to screen our portfolio for stocks with strong dividend growth track records that are expected to persist. To help us project which stocks will keep their dividend growth streaks alive, we also examined analyst estimates for total per-share payouts in their current fiscal year. Bottom line In any case, dividend growth over time is certainly welcome and can help increase total investment return, assuming the distributions are reinvested instead of taking cash.

Markets could remain under pressure through the end of the year, and high dividend stocks are one option to help investors through the uncertainty, according to Morgan Stanley. Investors are also assessing pressures on the market driven by the surprise attack on Israel by Palestinian militant group Hamas over the weekend. To play another potential breakdown in the market, Morgan Stanley highlighted several dividend stocks that combine yield (how much a company pays out in dividends each year), dividend growth (how much that dividend grows over a period of time) and stability, and that look attractive on a three- to five-year basis. Morgan Stanley projects yields of 9.6% for Energy Transfer in 2024 and 9.9% for MPLX, a master limited partnership created out of Marathon Petroleum that operates crude oil and refined product pipelines. The bank's preference in tobacco is Philip Morris , whose 2024 dividend yield could be 5.5%, according to Morgan Stanley.

With the Federal Reserve steadily raising interest rates to fight inflation, high-yield savings account payouts have steadily risen, too. After years of near-zero returns, the average savings account rate has risen to 0.45%, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Their new High-Yield Savings account offers a 3.5% APY, but you need a hefty $5,000 deposit to open the account. Unlike some high-yield online savings accounts, you earn a high APY—currently 5%—on every dollar in your account. You can conduct immediate electronic transfers between your brokerage account and savings account, and manage both savings and investment activities on a single platform.

While there has been a huge gain, it is barely scratching the surface of the potential market. Some potential patients don't have coverage of the pricey medicines through their health insurance plans yet. (For example, those seeking to use GLP-1 drugs for obesity can't receive coverage if they are insured by Medicare as the federal health plan is not allowed to cover weight loss drugs.) Walmart told Bank of America that fiscal second-quarter sales benefited roughly 1% from GLP-1 drug sales volumes. Insider Today: Big banks are screwed

It's the latest example of the pressure big banks are under to keep their place atop Wall Street. Before the announcement, the bank's share price was down almost 9% this year, trailing all of its fellow big bank peers in the US except Bank of America. Citi's overhaul represents how big banks are scrambling to stay on top of a financial world passing them by. CEO Jamie Dimon recently quipped he "wouldn't be a big buyer of a bank" in reference to proposed regulations requiring big banks to keep more money on the sidelines. Whether it's fintechs or so-called shadow banks, there's no shortage of players looking to offer services previously dominated by big banks.

New York CNN —Tesla’s Dojo supercomputer could fuel a $500 billion jump in the electric vehicle maker’s market value, analysts at Morgan Stanley said in a note Monday. Shares of Tesla jumped more than 6% during early trading Monday morning, on the heels of the rosy prediction from Morgan Stanley’s team about the automaker’s supercomputing efforts. The Morgan Stanley team, lead by longtime Tesla analyst Adam Jonas, predicted that the massive drive in value could come from Dojo potentially unlocking new revenue streams through the wider adoption of robotaxis and software services. The analysts compared the potential of Dojo at Tesla to the “same forces that have driven” Amazon Web Services to propel Amazon’s profitability to new heights. The world’s most valuable carmaker had a market cap of some $788.74 billion as of the market close on Friday.
