For years, customers stopping at Casey’s General Stores, a convenience store chain in the Midwest, hadn’t thought twice about snagging a soda and a bag of Lay’s or Doritos chips. But over the past year, as the price of a bag of chips soared and some customers felt squeezed by the high cost of gas and other expenses, they began picking up Casey’s less-expensive store brand. So Casey’s began stocking more of its own chips, in a variety of new flavors. With supply chain issues affecting what was on the shelves, people were buying basically whatever they could find. And they kept buying even as prices soared when the food and beverage brands raised prices to maintain their profit levels while still covering rising ingredient and labor costs.

While we've been sharing the very best Prime Day deals throughout the sale, there are some great finds our editors recommend snagging right now. William Antonelli, tech reporterAmazonI'm taking this Prime Day to upgrade some of the old gadgets I've got in my house. I go through many shoes when training for marathons, and Prime Day is when I pick up a new pair or two. Last Prime Day, I purchased the Asics Men's Gel-Nimbus 24 Running Shoes. These Prime Day deals most certainly took a bite out of my wallet, but at a fraction of the price you'd normally pay for these items.

This summer Goldman hosted 2,970 interns, about 500 of whom were placed in the investment bank, according to stats provided by Goldman. They advised future Goldman interns to learn how to multitask and have a solutions-oriented mindset, among other suggestions. As selective as the application process is, Goldman summer analysts are not expected to know how to do their jobs before they start. "I said, I'm really nervous, I don't know how to model.

That opens up plenty of potential loopholes which could allow borrowers to keep their old loans even after a deal. Lenders explicitly allow a company’s so-called “permitted holders” - typically its management or long-time investors - to assume responsibility for the debt. For example, one definition of a change of control is where the majority of board seats change hands. That means the company’s debt can stay put, news service 9fin reported. Interest rates for loans provided by private lenders have risen from 6.2% to 11.6% over a similar time frame.

“Last-minute flight prices, especially international ones, are expensive,” says Katy Nastro of Going.com (formerly Scott’s Cheap Flights) about airfares from North American to Europe. “Their best value comes when cash prices are high, and there’s no time more expensive than last-minute summer travel,” Nastro says. CNN Travel talked to travel agents, experts and expert travelers, too, for their tips on saving money on European travels this unprecedented summer. “Most travelers going to Europe have a few destinations in mind, “ says Henley Vazquez, co-founder of luxury travel advisor group Fora. These places he calls “the Chicagos of Europe” include Marseille in France, Hamburg in Germany and Liverpool in England.

Prime Day is over and the results are in: The first day of Amazon's huge 2023 deals event marked the largest sales day of all time for the online retailer. With so many incredible deals filling out the site's roster, it makes sense — dozens of great products were down to new all-time lows, and you can still snag some lingering Prime Day deals right now. That is, if Amazon chooses to skip holding another Prime Early Access Sale in the fall. Last year's Early Access event aimed to replicate the success of Prime Day but fell short, and it's not yet clear whether a new Prime Early Access Sale will take place in October. Though Prime Day deals have expired for most of these items, most of them are products we recommend in our buying guides even at full price.

US job market’s shifting balance

NEW YORK, July 7 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Quitting doesn’t pay like it used to. The raises Americans earn from switching jobs is shrinking, narrowing their advantage in wage gains versus job-keepers. While it’s happened without mass layoffs, weaker pay gains signal that the labor market’s balance of power is shifting back to businesses. And although job creation is gently slowing, government data released Friday showed unemployment dipping to 3.6% in June, nearly matching a five-decade low. That’s a welcome sign for workers after economists’ forecasts suggested millions would have to lose their jobs for inflation to cool.

An ex-OceanGate worker reportedly raised at least nine Titan safety concerns with CEO Stockton Rush. They included fears the carbon-fiber hull could come apart with repeated dives, per The New Yorker. Experts believe the vessel's carbon-fiber hull may have failed first when the submersible imploded and the five people on board, including Rush, died. He also said in a lawsuit that he reported in 2018 that the submersible's safety could be compromised by poor "quality control and safety" protocols that "paying passengers would not be aware" of. Rush had defended the safety of the submersible and repeatedly criticized what he saw as overly safety regulations blocking innovation.

NATO hesitation to give Ukraine weapons is one aspect of the snagging counteroffensive. The timing prevented Ukraine from taking full advantage of Russia's weaknesses, analysts said. The US and NATO have provided Ukraine with billions of dollars of aid, including Western weapons, air defense systems, tanks, artillery, and combat vehicles. Since the beginning of the war, Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine. "There's no world in which Putin can drop one tactical nuke and then that fundamentally changes the outset of the war," Barros added.
