Gymnastics Championships at SAP Center. Mandatory Credit: Kyle Terada-USA TODAY/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSept 21 (Reuters) - Simone Biles is set to compete in her sixth world championships this month after posting the top all-around score at a U.S. qualifying competition, USA Gymnastics said on Wednesday. Biles, a four-times Olympic champion and 19-times world gold medallist, headlines the five-woman team heading to Antwerp, Belgium, where she won the first of her five world all-around titles in 2013 at the age of 16. Biles will become the first woman to represent the U.S. at six artistic world championships, according to USA Gymnastics, after earning automatic qualification by topping the all-around standings at this week's two-day selection camp in Katy, Texas. She will be joined by Shilese Jones, Leanne Wong and Skye Blakely - all part of the team that won last year's world championships - and 17-year-old Joscelyn Roberson.

Sept 8 (Reuters) - American gymnast Simone Biles aims to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics she told American morning TV show Today, but said she would approach what be her third Games differently. "Right now, I would say that's the path that I would love to go," Biles told Today on Thursday. But looking as dominant as ever at the U.S. nationals, she served notice to the gymnastics world less than a year before the Games. We've kind of been playing it on the down-low this time making sure mentally and physically are both intact." CNN —Simone Biles has said that participating at next year’s Paris Olympics is a “path I would love,” a month after making her competitive return to gymnastics. Biles made history on August 27 when she won a record eighth national all-around title at the US Gymnastics Championships in San Jose, California. “A lot of trust in my coach, my teammates, myself – most importantly – coming in that gym and making sure I’m doing those numbers, the repetitions, feeling confident in them,” Biles said. “Before it was just go, go, go and then making time after,” she said. On Thursday, she said that they have mostly been long-distance pursuing their respective sports since the marriage.

Simone Biles entered the 2020 Olympic Games with a record 25 World Championship medals and four moves so difficult that she alone out of all the world’s gymnasts could perform them. But what took place on the competition floor made history in a way no one could have expected. Simone had “the twisties” — a complete loss of ability to perceive her body in space. I’m a former competitive gymnast myself (though let’s be clear — Simone and I occupy entirely different stratospheres). By the time he was sentenced to up to 175 years in prison, over 200 gymnasts had spoken up, and Simone was one of them.

The gymnastics star won her record eighth U.S. Championship on Sunday night, 10 years after she first ascended to the top of her sport as a teenage prodigy. Biles is all but assured of returning to the gym where she captured her first world title in 2013. Over the past week, at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Richardson has taken the transformation a step further. Online, her sometimes brash dismissal of other track athletes invited more scorn — particularly from supporters of the Jamaican team. But at the end of the day, I’ve always been with me.”Richardson is very vocal about issues facing track and field athletes. Richardson is very proud to be among prominent Black women athletes and fiercely celebrates Black womanhood. She said, wisely, after winning the 100-meter race that the most important cause she’s embracing is herself.

Keeping with her relaxed demeanor, Biles hasn’t explicitly said that she is seeking to compete at the Paris Olympics next summer. So, one thing at a time.”On Friday, the first night of competition, Biles was close to flawless. Biles didn’t display the double pike in warm-ups or in competition on Sunday, opting to show just one tough vault called a Cheng. Landi said that Biles stung an ankle on the skill on Friday and that there was no reason for her to repeat it just for show. The other events — uneven bars, beam and floor exercise — were quintessential Biles: incredible height and speed, and a few small hops on landings.

CNN —It was a familiar sight – Simone Biles twisting though the air, effortlessly and powerfully completing routines no other female gymnast has ever landed in competition. Biles is the most decorated gymnast in US history, winning 32 medals across the Olympics and the world championships. Gymnastics Championships begins at 3.30 p.m. PST (6.30 p.m. ET/11.30 p.m. UK time) on Sunday. Biles will begin on vault, before taking on the uneven bars, balance beam and finishing on floor.

CNN —She might recently have surpassed the legendary Michael Phelps for the most career individual world swimming titles, but Katie Ledecky says the thrill of winning remains as powerful as ever. Ledecky eclipsed Phelps’ tally of 15 world swimming titles at the 2023 World Aquatic Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, in July. 'THE PLATFORM'Rapinoe plans to finish her club season with National Women's Soccer League side OL Reign before retiring and shows no signs of retreating from public life after a career spent championing social causes. Looking back at the 2019 tournament, Rapinoe saw her on-field achievements as being inextricably entwined with her advocacy. The "twisties," which cut short Biles' Tokyo run, were nowhere in sight on Saturday as the U.S. gymnast appeared back to her previous, top-notch form after taking more than a year off from the sport. During that break she prioritized her mental health, which became a major focus following her abrupt withdrawal from the team finals in Tokyo. "I’m still continuing to work on myself and go to therapy," Biles said, stressing the importance of a mental break. "I think I’m in better shape than I was in 2021," she said. "Who knows, I'm not going to think too far ahead," Biles said when asked about her plans.

But the four-times Olympic gold medallist cleared up any confusion this past weekend, proving she is as big a threat as ever one year out from the next Olympics. In addition to the all-around, Biles is favoured on the world stage for the vault and floor exercise golds due to her unmatched difficulty. The Russian women, competing as the Russian Olympic Committee due to a doping ban, captured team gold in Tokyo, leaving the United States to settle for silver. Contenders could include an unprecedented three Olympic all-around champions as 2012 winner Gabby Douglas, 27, recently announced plans to join Biles and 2020 champion Sunisa Lee, 20, on the road to Paris. The Paris squad will be selected at U.S. team trials at the end of June next year, a month before the 2024 Games.

Simone Biles, photographed practicing this week, is set to compete for the first time since the Tokyo Olympics in July 2021. CNN —Seven-time Olympic medalist Simone Biles is due to return to competitive gymnastics on Saturday for the first time since pulling out of Tokyo Olympics finals in 2021. It did not look like Simone Biles had been gone. Her full-twisting double-back dismount from the balance beam, hastily scrapped the last time she was seen in competition two years ago, was back. Oh, and yes: She finished the competition with a Yurchenko double pike, a vault not contemplated, much less competed, before Biles introduced it in 2021. The margin — 5 points over the second-place finisher, Leanne Wong — was normal by Biles’s standards, which are not anybody else’s. That margin between first and second was about the same as the margin between second and 17th.

“We’ve never seen an athlete like Simone Biles,” Ryan said. And yet that sport was corrosive enough and abusive enough that she really had to step away for her own mental health,” added Ryan. “I have to focus on my mental health and not jeopardize my health and well-being.”Biles was replaced in the all-around final by Jade Carey, who had finished ninth in the qualifying round. More than 150 athletes, including Biles, said that the former USA Gymnastics team doctor sexually abused them under the guise of providing medical treatment. “I think this just really shows the lack of leadership of USA Gymnastics and the United States Olympic Committee.”However, there is hope that a brighter future is in store for USA Gymnastics.

Simone Biles, who over the past decade has revolutionized what is possible in gymnastics, is set to compete Saturday for the first time since 2021, when she won two medals at the Tokyo Olympics but also withdrew from five events to protect her mental and physical health. Gymnastics fans have been waiting for this moment, which is widely seen as her first step toward the Paris Games in 2024. That is almost certainly because of Biles, 26, who could break multiple world and Olympic records in the next year. This meet — which serves as the last opportunity for athletes to qualify for the national championships later this month — is fielding its best lineup ever. The entrants hold a cumulative 55 medals from the Olympics and world championships, according to a tally by the podcast GymCastic.
